Ten races have been set down for Caulfield Heath on Saturday, headlined by the respective Magic Millions races. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres from the 1600m-1050m; True for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:20) MRC Membership Handicap (70) 1800m
5 Trapalanda (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to have returned really well for Team Archibald and is one of the hardest to beat after his return at Ballarat two weeks ago, driving hard from off speed but just couldn’t quite get there when beaten a lip by Sneaky Sunrise. Fitter and up in trip, he takes beating.
4 Touchdown (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in a purple patch for Team Hayes and should prove hard to hold out after a couple of wins at Caulfield Heath, the latest over 1800m where he was there to be beaten but he found when required to fend them off and score. Hard to knock the way he’s racing, he appeals.
3 Sigirya Rock (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over this trip on the course proper here. He got into a decent spot off speed and did try hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Opening Address, who had front end control and was too good. In good form and should be around the mark.
Race 2. (12:50) Sportsbet Handicap (84) 1800m
3 Beltoro (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has shown sneaky signs of life in recent runs and I think is in with a shout. To the eye, a plain run at Ballarat two weeks back, but he had to make a sustained run from off speed, and was there on the turn, but the mid race burn told late. He’s a threat at a big price I say.
There was a lot of merit in the win of 6 Sneaky Sunrise (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) at Ballarat a fortnight back given the riderless horse caused trouble for her but she managed to get rid of it, find and was too good in winning. Gets in well at the weights, she appeals.
7 Crafty Boss (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth including in exotics. He comes back to 1800m after racing two weeks ago over 2000m at Ballarat. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he kept chasing and was far from disgraced behind Prince Eric. Maps to bludge out the back and finish strong.
Race 3. (13:25) MRC Handicap (70) 1600m
5 Seafall (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key chance for Team Hayes after resuming over 1400m at Ballarat two weeks ago. The track got worse as the meeting went on and she was first up, back in the run. Never really a winning threat but her finale was more than sound. Fitter and up in trip, she’ll run really well.
13 Indian Jewel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) did more than enough when resuming over 1400m at Pakenham, working home well from off speed when second to impressive winner and stablemate Knobelas. That was a good return and I reckon that form will hold up well. Hard to beat.
10 Cachink (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile after resuming over 1400m at Warrnambool when wide no cover for the trip and the hard run just told on him late in the piece. Better for the run and up in trip, ideal map, he’s an improver at odds.
Race 4. (14:00) Magic Millions Digital Handicap (78) 1500m
9 Knobelas (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should prove extremely hard to beat for Price/Kent after a first up win over 1400m at Pakenham, getting the sweet sit in transit just off speed before being asked for the big effort and she got better as the race went on to win and win well. Fitter, extra ground…she’s top seed.
4 Roadcone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Caulfield when off speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job when fourth to Taken. He was only second up there so with room for improvement, he can take this out.
3 Sunsets (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Team Hayes trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since May 31 at Caulfield over 2000m when off speed and held up at times but did seem to have his chance. Fresh at 1500m I do like and with three jumpouts under the belt, I suggest fitness won’t be an excuse.
Race 5. (14:35) Magic Millions Vic 2YO Classic 1100m
8 Unit Five (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Ciaron Maher trained colt that is on debut off the back of impressive jumpout work, the latest coming at Cranbourne on Monday when winning and going about his business nicely. Maps ideally and looks prepped right up.
2 Invincible Son (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Farnan that debuts for Robbie Griffiths. He trialled last week here when running second and went about his business nicely. Stable is flying, as they generally do this time of year, so he commands respect.
10 Oman (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Capitalist filly for Beggy that debuted over 1000m here a few weeks back when just off the speed from the inside gate and was okay to the line without threatening behind Almost An Angel. Better for the run, tick over trial was solid, watch betting.
Race 6. (15:10) Quayclean Handicap (74) 1200m
4 Rue De Royale (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has returned well to my eye and is one of the key chances after his return two weeks ago at Ballarat when on speed throughout and was trucking before being clicked and looked the winner when asked but first up, condition just gave way late. Better for the run, he appeals.
11 Swiftie Harriet (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here off the back of a win at Ballarat a fortnight back where she gave them a start and a beating to win and win well. The gate does make things tricky but hard to knock how well she’s racing.
9 Mr Exclusive (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Matty Brown, having not raced since Oct 26 over 1400m at Sandown when getting back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was far from disgraced in defeat. Likely spots them a start but will be strong late.
Race 7. (15:45) B&M Infrastructure Handicap (74) 1100m
1 Job Done (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 1100m after a first up win over 1000m here, sitting wide throughout but came with a well timed run to finish best in impressive fashion. Fitter and up in trip, good upside to come, he’ll take holding out.
4 Naifah (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1100m after racing over 1200m in the Blue Sapphire when in behind the speed and tried hard but lacked the class to go with them late. Better suited at this level, at 1100m, she’s dangerous if there is petrol left in the tank.
5 Hi Val (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is another that comes through the Blue Sapphire when clearly outclassed on paper but in saying that, I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat. Much better suited here, I think she’s a must for exotics.
Race 8. (16:25) Magic Millions 3&4YO Classic 1200m
2 Gin A Tonic (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented animal for Richard Laming that is 2/2 this time in. Latest win was Cranbourne Cup Day when leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win and win well. Good racing style, will be out of trouble and take running down.
6 Barbaric Lad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was game in defeat last start at Scone when wide no cover for the trip yet kept surging and looked the winner but had to settle for a second to Dirty Grin. He should get a better run in transit this time around and strikes a winnable race overall.
8 Supercilious (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Corstens/Larkin trained mare that resumes. She hasn’t raced since July 26 over 1100m on the course proper here when off speed and didn’t really come on in a plain effort. Looks to have jumped out well, I’d watch betting and see what it does.
Race 9. (17:05) Sportsbet Handicap (90) 1000m
3 South Of India (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was dominant at Ballarat two weeks ago. He led throughout and wasn’t getting beat from a fair way out, getting front end control and gave nothing else a look in to win impressively. Good racing style, short course specialist, he takes running down.
2 Samangu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Grahame Begg trained mare that resumes. She was a real find during the Summer/Autumn, highlighted by a win in the Mystic Journey to end last prep. Couple of jumpouts under the belt, I think the grounding is there for her to run really well.
6 Chinqui (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came at Flemington on Stakes Day where he failed to handle the bog when down the track behind Grand Larceny. Better suited here on a firmer deck, he’s a big improver.
Race 10. (17:40) Evergreen Turf Handicap (78) 1200m
2 Flyer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) doesn’t exactly win out of turn but I do think she’s racing well and is a knockout chance. She ran on Cup Day in the HKJC where she got back to near last in the run and did make up ground but was never really threatening. Likely spots them a start but will be dangerous with a drag into the race.
1 Gracie’s Rain (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect for Mick Huglin. Dominant all the way win first up on the course proper here before going to Ballarat where she attempted to lead throughout and tried hard but tired late when fourth. With her racing pattern, she’ll give herself every chance.
7 Quiseen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. She ran last week at Geelong where she got off speed and I thought was going to be right in the finish when building the revs but got checked, held up and it ended up being an ugly watch. If she gets the luck, she can win.
