Race 1. (12:15) Australian Guineas Day, 2 March (Bm100) 1600m
2 Bermadez (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing very well for Michael Moroney and is nearing a win. He gets a great chance here. He ran in the Coastal Classic at Geelong where he was given a peach ride and was there to win but was no match for Holymanz, who heads to Ellerslie next week for a rich race, so the form does read well and the depth here isn’t as deep.
1 Suparazi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Ben Brisbourne after winning last Saturday at this track/distance, letting down strongly from off the speed to win and win well. Hard horse to catch but he is the only threat to Bermadez in what looks a pretty thin race.
3 Mahamedeis (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Nick Ryan trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since July 1 when down the track over 2600m here behind Mimi’s Award, who was flying at the time. Likely has eyes on a jumps prep, maybe, but he is a horse who can sprint well fresh and will be strong at the end.
Race 2. (12:45) Vrc Life Member Robert Lane Trophy (Bm78) 2500m
7 Oceanic Flash (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the best each way gamble across Australia for the day IMO. I reckon Andrew Payne has this former Sydney sider sneaky flying. He did more than enough fresh at Sandown behind Who Dares before going to the mile at The Valley where he wasn’t suited at the trip, and on the track, but he found the line really well. Love him up in trip on the bigger track and should be strong at the end. Great gamble for mine.
8 Galilaeus (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a former UK stayer who I think will be winning races down under for Team Freedman. He made his Australian debut over 2040m at The Valley three weeks ago and was an eye catcher from the back behind stablemate and the very much in form Miss Tarzy. Fitter and up to 2500m, good upside and D Lane, he rates highly.
9 One Last Kiss (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in with a shout for the Dan O’Sullivan camp. She comes through the Wertheimer race from two weeks back at Geelong where she had to try and make a long sustained run from the back and loomed, but couldn’t sustain the run, just feeling the pinch late. Not sure she wins, but is a must for multiples.
Race 3. (13:20) Tour D' Horse Trophy (Rs0mw) 1200m
1 Hooah Havana (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a promising animal for Lindsey Smith and off a sharp return, he’s the way I am heading. He resumed over 1100m at Terang where he gave them a start and a beating, sitting back on the fence before angling clear and letting down with a brilliant finale to score. Good room for improvement and up to 1200m, he’ll take holding out.
9 Shaime (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Cliff Brown after racing here last Saturday where she was ridden with a sit and kept chasing in an honest effort but was simply no match for impressive winner Chester Warrior. Like that the stable backs her up and the depth here, IMO, isn’t as deep vs last weekend.
7 Miss Titeline (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a ripper for Michael Leonoard and is a must for exotics. She ran just over two weeks back at Stawell over 1300m where she got just off the speed and was trucking. Held up and lost momentum but got clear late and was pretty good in the run to the line behind Empressive Enuff. Definite first four contender.
Race 4. (13:55) Be A Mate, Nominate Trophy (Bm78) 1100m
2 Celestial Storm (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice filly for Griffiths/De Kock that has been kept on ice since an arrogant first up win here at this straight track where she was absolutely trucking in the run before being asked for little effort by Shinn and she went through her gears to win quite well. She has loads of improvement/upside and I reckon trained as a sprinter, it’ll pay dividends.
3 Spicy Margs (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take beating. She ran two weeks ago at Geelong when attempting to lead throughout and giving a solid kick but couldn’t quite see it through when second to Carbonados. She was several weeks between runs so with room for improvement, good racing style, she appeals.
10 Savee (Bet Now: $SP.00) seems a short course type so she’s suited here I feel and comes here off a win. That win was a maiden win at Seymour where she was ridden with intent from Egan and those positive tactics paid off as she was strongest late and had enough in hand to score. Not sure she wins but can pinch a first four spot at odds.
Race 5. (14:30) Black Caviar Lightning Race Day, 17Th Feb (Bm78) 1100m
4 Kin (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key chance. This Godolphin mare ran in the Pink Beau Ty race from three weeks ago at The Valley where she was wide throughout and that hard run just told late in the piece but was still as game as ever when third. Has run well down the straight before and when cuddled, she can launch.
1 A Little Deep (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Maher/Eustace since a strong win at The Valley where she was wide no cover for the trip and despite that, she just kept coming under pressure to surge late and get the win in great fashion. If there is petrol left in the tank, and hasn’t been busted from last run, she is clearly hard to beat.
3 It’s Kind Of Magic (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope. She was thrown in the deep end two weeks back in the Black Pearl at Geelong and she tried hard from on speed but 1200m at Stakes level was a bridge too far behind Va Via. Much better suited at 78 grade and at 1100m, and will press forward. Knockout chance.
Race 6. (15:05) Vrc Life Member John Dale Mile (Bm70) 1600m
5 Botany (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love a rise in trip for Moody/Coleman. This mare resumed over 1400m on Boxing Day at Caulfield, getting back in the run and spotted those in front too much head start but really liked the way she finished off behind Vagrant, finishing third. Got good upside to come, can settle closer…hard to beat.
11 Naval Seal (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Chris Waller since racing at The Valley where he was a bit flat footed and seemingly struggled on the tight turns but once he balanced up, he surged hard, just missing out on the win. Hard fit now, ideal map, leading camp…clearly a leading contender.
10 Verifier (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Nigel Blackiston trained stayer that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 1 here over 2500m when far from disgraced in defeat behind a potential top stayer of the future in First Immortal. He is better suited over further but he should be strong at the end and the depth isn’t deep.
Race 7. (15:40) Vrc Super Saturday, 9 March (Bm84) 1200m
3 Rey Magnerio (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an absolute beauty for Griffiths/De Kock and rates highly once again. He won here on Champions Day before being given a mini break and he ran at Geelong two weeks ago where he got into a dream spot near the speed and although he took a while to wind into his work, class came to the fore and he was too good. Improvement to come and back down the straight, he’s hard to beat.
9 Pink Beau Ty (Bet Now: $SP.00) continues to step up to the plate for Brian McGrath and he has to be respected. He won a few weeks back at The Valley, getting the sweet sit behind the speed before angling clear and in a driving finish, the economical run he had was the difference between winning and losing. Has run well down the straight previously and is in career best form.
4 Dehorned Unicorn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Joe Pride trained sprinter that has been around the mark this time in without winning, the latest run being two weeks back at Randwick when back off the speed and closed the race with purpose when a close up fifth to Kinloch. Stable rarely get it wrong when on the road so watch the market.
Race 8. (16:20) Tab Australian Cup Race Day, 30 March (Bm70) 2000m
12 Greta Moon (Bet Now: $SP.00) has come back in really good order and up to 2000m, she should prove hard to beat. 2/2 this time in, winning impressively fresh over the mile at Moe before going 1700m at Flemington on New Years Day where she gave them a start, a beating and was quite strong to the line, so hard fit now and up to 2000m, it all points to her I’d suggest.
14 Divine Purpose (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Moody/Coleman since racing over 2040m at The Valley where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never really a threat, she did make up solid ground and was good in defeat behind the in form Miss Tarzy. Hard fit, big track, senior jock on…nearly D-Day.
15 Hard Squeeze (Bet Now: $SP.00) can run an improved race for Griffiths/De Kock. She ran down the track behind Greta Moon in the race mentioned above but be forgiving of the run given she drew wide, was dragged back and just couldn’t get involved. Maps to get a much better run in transit and with J Kah on, she can run a much improved race.
Race 9. (17:00) Vrc Life Member Daniel Connell Trophy (Bm84) 1400m
12 Space Tracker (Bet Now: $SP.00)…is he a thinker? Enough evidence to say it’s likely, but he gets one last chance. Track was too heavy fresh on Ballarat Cup Day so forgive and forget. He then went to The Valley a few weeks ago and looked all over a winner on the turn but didn’t finish it off when third to the in form Real Sensation. Hard fit now, big track…D-Day for him.
10 Bel Air (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key threat for me. Team Freedman trained four year old that won here on New Years Day, getting the sweet sit in transit before edging into clear air and he got better as the race went on to win well, and now he has that winning feeling again, he can go on with it. One of the hardest to beat.
7 He’s Our Bonneval (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Busuttin/Young trained galloper that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Sep 2 over the mile at Morphettville when seemingly having every chance but couldn’t quite get there when a close up fourth to Regal Amazon. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh, his jumpout work has been encouraging…watch the market.
Race 10. (17:40) Vrc Life Member Anthony Yencken (Bm70) 1000m
7 Manhattan Thunder (Bet Now: $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since resuming with a bang at The Valley, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. Good improvement to come you’d think and stable is having a good little run the last month or so. Watch the market and see if it likes him in this harder race.
13 Kusini (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be around the mark. Maher/Eustace mare that ran three weeks ago at The Valley when on speed and she tried her guts out but couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by stablemate A Little Deep. Good racing style, hard fit, in form…she appeals as one of the leading contenders.
6 Mornington Glory (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a model of consistency for Gavin Bedggood and shouldn’t be far away. He ran behind Midtown Boss here on New Years Day where he was near the speed throughout and for a stride or two, looked to be a winning threat, but he just didn’t have the quality to go with the eventual winner. He’ll be around the mark.
