Race 1. (11:45) Midway (Bm72) 1400m
12 The Seven Seas (Bet Now: $SP.00) is ticking along quite nicely for John Sargent. I thought her run here a fortnight back had plenty of merit given she was wide no cover for the trip and despite being one of the first off the bit, she kept finding and was pretty good in defeat. Like her up to 1400m and with a more economical run in transit, she can take this out.
1 Strait Acer (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be respect for Ed Cummings. He was teasing to win a Midway and that win came three weeks ago at Rosehill, getting a sweet steer from Collett and despite getting the staggers late, he had enough in hand to score. Back to 1400m no issue and should he get an economical run in transit again, he’ll take beating.
7 Ningaloo Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) has returned well and commands respect. She comes through the Midway from two weeks back here when wide with cover and got clear air at the right time but was just a bit one paced in the run to the line behind Super Bright. She’s racing like a rise to 1400m will be ideal and third up from a spell, she should just about be at peak fitness.
Race 2. (12:20) Tab Highway (C3) 1200m
2 Wizard Of Oz (Bet Now: $SP.00) is ready to win a Highway and I think he gets a great chance here. Three weeks between runs since contesting a Highway at Rosehill where he led pretty much throughout but the end of 1300m found him out and he was nabbed late by Overlord. Back to 1200m, little break between runs, bunny to chase, he only runs well.
4 Sungblue (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another chance. He resumed in the Derry Grove Highway from two weeks ago here and it was pretty much another barrier trial for him. He got behind the speed and was full of running but failed to get clear air at any stage so forget he went around. Fitter, and with the rub of the green, he can take this out.
12 Manzoni (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. Real eye catcher fresh on Forbes Cup Day before going to the Highway here a fortnight back when far from disgraced in defeat behind impressive winner Derry Grove. His best is good enough to threaten so don’t pen him.
Race 3. (12:55) Lockton (Bm78) 1100m
Beware the unbeaten horse. You don’t know how good they are til they’re beaten so with that in mind, I am in the corner of 11 Dancing Alone (Bet Now: $SP.00), that is 4/4 to start her career, the latest run coming three weeks ago at Kembla when Winx-like odds and despite a few nervous moments, she launched late to win. Good test here against some handy mares, but she could be the best of the lot.
10 Tintookie (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it. This mare was able to settle much closer in the run two weeks ago here and once that eventuated, she was always going to be hard to beat and that is how it eventuated, proving strong at the end of 1200m. Back to Mares grade and back to 1100m, she looks a relatively straight bat option.
Very interesting runner is 2 Rainbiel (Bet Now: $SP.00), formerly with Anthony Chibnall but she now finds herself with Joe Pride…Mariamia 2.0? Don’t think it would be a total shock because this mare was Stakes class when absolutely flying. Wheels fell off towards the end but is now with Pride and her two trials have been very strong so I reckon watch the market and see what it does.
Race 4. (13:30) Ikon Services (Bm94) 1600m
14 Gan Teorainn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps at odds. Chris Waller trained former French galloper that made her Australian debut in the Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never a threat, she did make up good ground late in the piece. Has the gate to settle much closer in the run and right down in the weights, she’s worth an each way ticket.
12 Tazaral (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice horse for Team Snowden so keen to see how he goes at this level. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since July 29 when a sharp winner at this track/distance and confirming himself as a potential Spring candidate. Tick over trial last week at Hawkesbury was strong and while he lacks hard fitness, he does have the upside/progression.
Fitter and up to 1600m are two big ticks for 6 Perfect Thought (Bet Now: $SP.00). He was backed with confidence when resuming three weeks back at Rosehill where he was a bit on the plain side but that said, he wasn’t beaten too far behind Pericles, and is a horse better suited over further. He gets further and with the run under the belt, he appeals.
Race 5. (14:05) City Tattersall's Club Cup 2400m
4 Serpentine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality stayer for GaiBott that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since the Q22 during the Brisbane Carnival when leading and just failing to see it out, perhaps an end of prep run behind Without A Fight. First up at 2400m tells me he’s got the grounding and on paper, he should get a very comfortable lead. From there, he’ll take running down.
5 Military Mission (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for GaiBott. Just looked in need of the run fresh before maintaining his super second up record two weeks ago in the Premiers Cup when a fighting second to Hosier in the Premiers Cup, the run having plenty of merit after doing early work. Like him up in trip and with a more positive ride, he’ll take this out.
14 Kirkeby (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been up a little while but is holding his form pretty well. He lumped 62.5kg here a fortnight back and tried his guts out but in a sit/sprint, he couldn’t dash under the big weight when third to Awesome Wonder. Gets really good weight relief here and while he lacks the class of some of these, he is the hard fit/in form horse.
Race 6. (14:40) Furious Stakes 1200m
Staying at 1200m could be a slight query for 5 Kimochi (Bet Now: $SP.00) but she is a very talented filly for Gary Portelli that should should prove hard to beat. Ran a fortnight back in the Silver Shadow where she was back and held up but got clear late and rocketed to the line behind Autumn Ballet. Would love to see her at 1400m aka next time in Tea Rose, but she is explosive enough to take this out.
3 Tiz Invincible (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for Maher/Eustace. She was a strong winner of The Rosebud several weeks ago but the form out of that didn’t quite stack up last Saturday so that is the query, but back to Fillies grade, run under the belt, she appeals.
11 Summer Loving (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous if she can settle closer in the run. This filly was second up when racing two weeks back in the Silver Shadow where she was dragged back to last from the wide gate and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up ground and was a definite pass mark. If she can settle closer in the run, she’s going well enough to threaten.
Race 7. (15:15) Concorde Stakes 1000m
I’d love to see Nature Strip win. But I do feel his better days and winning days are over. The horse that could be here to make an Everest statement is 9 Remarque (Bet Now: $SP.00). He is a different/better horse since he has been gelded and looks wound up for a first up assault with two sharp trials under the belt. He loves Randwick, he’ll sit off the brutal speed…think he only runs well.
For racing, it would be superb if 1 Nature Strip (Bet Now: $SP.00) got a win here and secured an Everest slot. The question is, does he still have that desire to win a race. Since Royal Ascot, while he has been running well, he just hasn’t been the same horse. There is enough body of work to say he is done, but doubt a champion at your peril, and his trial last week suggests he’s ready to rock and roll.
7 Rocketing By (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been a giant killer in the past and his best sees him as a sneaky prospect. He comes through the Show County at Randwick when back in the run and was never a factor but did make up headway late behind Buenos Noches. Spots them a start but will be strong at the end.
Race 8. (15:55) Chelmsford Stakes 1600m
It was hard not to miss the first up run of 11 Montefilia (Bet Now: $SP.00) in the Winx Stakes. First run for Chris Waller, she got a fair way out of her ground but loved the way she found the line late behind stablemate Fangirl, clocking good late decent splits. Might want one more and a rise in trip again, but she is top class and off the first up run, she’ll take beating.
1 Think It Over (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to rate highly. Star animal for Kerry Parker that resumed in the Winx Stakes, his first run since the 2022 QEll win and I thought he was fabulous in defeat given the break between runs and the little luck he had late. If there is no second up syndrome and just natural improvement, he will look the winner for a fair chunk of the race.
6 Navajo Peak (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a good second up record and fitter, up to the mile, I wouldn’t be totally penning him. He resumed two weeks back in the Winx Stakes where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, he did make up ground and was good in defeat behind Fangirl, clocking decent enough late splits. Not sure he wins, but he can finish top four without surprising.
Race 9. (16:35) Tramway Stakes 1400m
The horse I want to speck is 2 My Oberon (Bet Now: $SP.00). Annabel Neasham is in love with this guy, reading news articles, and is thinking if he finds a wet track, he will win big races. His trial work has been superb in readiness for this prep…bigger fish to fry yes, but he has the brilliance to certainly measure up and make a statement.
16 Olentia (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very good mare for Chris Waller that should take beating against this lot. She resumed three weeks ago at Rosehill where the market said she was there to win and under a confident steer from J Mac, she gave them a start and a beating in an impressive display. If she is going to be a Group l horse, she’d want to be winning a race like this as a stepping stone.
14 Sky Lab (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very frustrating horse to follow at times but there is no denying he has the talent under the hood to be a really good horse. Unwanted in betting when resuming two weeks ago in the Show County when back near last in the run and made up solid headway without threatening behind impressive winner Buenos Noches. Fitter and up to 1400m, think he will only run well.
Race 10. (17:10) World Gym Castlereagh (Bm78) 1200m
8 Garza Blanca (Bet Now: $SP.00) can atone for the first up run. Can make a case to say he wins had he got clear air when resuming at Rosehill three weeks ago but unfortunately things didn’t fall into place for him and it ended up being an ugly watch when second to Smashing Eagle. Fitter, up to 1200m, more positive ride, he can bounce back into the winners list.
10 Pereille (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have turned the corner since heading to Melbourne for a three run prep, where he was quite dominant last time out at The Valley, which follows an incredible effort the start prior against the pattern. Hard to knock how he’s racing.
4 Time To Boogie (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been up a little while but is holding his form really well for Bjorn Baker. Narrow second two back at Rosehill to Brudenell before racing here a fortnight back when attempting to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite finish it off, run down late by Tintookie. If he finds the front and is able to get more control, he’ll take running down.
