2/6/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out four metres for the remainder.

14 Symphonette (Bet Now: $4.00) gets the nod. Phillip Stokes trains this daughter of Helmet, who is on debut. Well bred so expectations of her being a nice horse will be high and she looks to have ticked the first couple of boxes. Won a recent trial in good time and looked to do things quite nicely under Caboche. Think she goes close.

The early market suggests that 11 No Joy (Bet Now: $4.50) is ready to go for her debut. David Jolly trains this daughter of Al Maher, who is having her first start with a couple of really nice trials under the belt. Draw is a shame, but if she gets any luck in the running, convinced she will go close and prove hard to beat.

1 Counter Drive (Bet Now: $27.00) is a Bernadini gelding on debut for the MacDonald/Gluyas stable. This bloke has only had the one trial, which came back in December when running last, beaten 14 lengths. Been given plenty of time and he strikes a thin race here, so it’ll be interesting to see how he goes because he is bred to have ability.

Happy to butter up on 6 Falcool (Bet Now: $2.45). Had his first run for Will Clarken over 1200m at Morphettville three weeks back and just did too much work on speed when third to Camdus. Been freshened up and he looked great to my eye in a Morphettville trial last week. Cold ride off a fast speed looks his go.

5 Boggoms (Bet Now: $3.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained sprinter that resumes. This bloke had a pretty solid Spring prep, ended during Cup Week at Flemington behind Dollar For Dollar. Won a trial last week, beating Falcool. Had he drew a better gate, he’d just about be on top. That aside, he runs well I think.

8 Ascendance (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Dion Koch trained sprinter who is just an absolute beauty. He ran three weeks back at Morphettville where he was wide throughout but stuck on very well in defeat when third to Tildy Lad. Gets a 1.5kg weight swing on that horse here and draws better so I think he turns the tables.

3 Wallace Street (Bet Now: $5.00) gets the nod for me in what looks a really good dash for the three year olds. Richard Jolly trains this galloper, who didn’t win when last in work but ran well each time he stepped out in some solid races, Trialled up well last week here and I’d suggest he’s ready to go first up here.

1 White Kaps (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Gordon Richards trained three year old on the quick back up after racing here last Saturday against the older horses where he had a suck run behind the speed before peeling out and looming large to beat Showpero, but the class just kicked in late. Back to his own age, a definite threat.

7 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $7.50) is a David Jolly trained three year old that resumes. His overall form reads very well, including a run behind the above average Avanti Rose for Darren Weir. Interesting he resumes with no trials under the belt but I’d suggest the stable would have him ready for a first up assault.

2 Mongolian Wolf…(Bet Now: $2.45) this is D-Day for him. Promised a fair bit as a Winter three year old but since then, he has done bugger all, the latest run seeing him finish midfield in the Casterton Cup. Up to 2400m, Allen remains on, firmer footing should help…he’s a bludger, but surely he puts this lot away.

6 Super Haze (Bet Now: $4.40) is on the quick back up for Tony McEvoy after racing under the lights at Cranbourne last Friday night where he got back in a race dominated by those on speed, a race won by the heavily backed Benall. Firmer footing will help this horse big time and he is a definite improver against this lot.

12 Exalted Craftsman (Bet Now: $26.00) is a Grant Young trained stayer who is also on the quick back up. He ran at Strathalbyn on Sunday where he was a hard luck story. Normal luck and he wins but he didn’t get that at all until it was too late, bursting through to run an unlucky fourth. Up to 2400m, he’ll run well.

1 Ancient Echoes…(Bet Now: $3.00) he goes on top but do I want to dive into anything short? No. Yes, he took on the older horses last Saturday, but he pulled his head off in the run and in the end, that probably cost him in the end. Like that he is backing up the following Saturday and J Allen going on is a big tick.

8 Supre (Bet Now: $12.00) looks a progressive type for the Paul Beshara team who broke the maiden status last start at Murray Bridge under Holder. Took a bit of riding and encouragement but once she knuckled down, I thought she was pretty good in the end. Bit more depth, but she does have upside and is a definite threat.

7 Hinchin Miss (Bet Now: $20.00) is showing good promise for the Phillip Stokes team. She ran over 1500m at Gawler last time out where she looked to have every chance and for the most part looked the winner, but She’s Got Skills burst through and proved too good. Back to her own age, I think she runs well.

If 9 Via Balciano (Bet Now: $3.60) is anywhere near right, I think he gets the win. Numerically, his two runs back from a break have been ordinary but they have been much better than what they read. He just hasn’t been suited each time and the depth in both races were much better than what he faces here. Normal luck and he just about wins.

12 Going Gaga (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Michael Hickmott trained filly who is going really well at the moment. On the quick back up after racing over 1550m here last Saturday where she got back and held up when a close up second to Star Patriot. Back to 1400m in the space of a week is a slight concern, but market support suggests otherwise.

3 Aspect (Bet Now: $13.00) is the big watch here. Tony McEvoy trains this gelding, who was tested in a couple of strong three year old races to kick off the prep where he didn’t quite measure up. Looks better suited back to this level and I reckon he could be a sharp improver at odds. Just has to navigate the draw.

Backing 4 Mihany (Bet Now: $5.00) to dominate from the front and lead all the way. This horse only races when he leads and dictates, so I’ll be hoping that eventuates here. Has attempted to lead all the way over the Morphettville mile at his past couple and has been quite good but just hasn’t quite finished it off. Back to 1550m and back in depth look two big ticks.

Back in trip is the query, but hard to knock the way 7 Have Another Glass (Bet Now: $4.50) is going about her business. Got a well deserved Stakes win last time out in the Centaurea over the ten furlongs when ridden a treat by Dwayne Dunn and she fought really hard late when challenged. Good record here and regular rider back on.

2 Brown Ben (Bet Now: $9.50) was a drifter in betting for Tony McEvoy when resuming over 1200m at Morphettville and the market got it spot on as he didn’t come on at all behind Camdus. Been freshened up and he looked to trial up very well last week here, winning the trial. If he brings his best, he’s right in the game.

1 Vieira (Bet Now: $3.70) is a handy gelding for Lean Conlon who was completely unwanted in betting when resuming over 1200m on the course proper two weeks ago but I thought his effort late behind Bord De Gain was very good, closing off with real purpose late in the piece. Will improve big time with the run under the belt and drops a fair bit in depth.

8 Colesberg (Bet Now: $8.00) is the very interesting runner. Former David Payne runner making his SA debut for Michael Hickmott. The talent has been evident since day one, certainly good enough to beat this lot. Just depends where he is at fitness wise, with just the one soft trial under the belt. Market will be the guide.

12 Containment (Bet Now: $10.00) is a handy daughter of Krupt that resumes for the Marilyn Smith team. Her form in the Spring/Summer was very good. Only won the one race but was hardly far away from threatening to win more. Best form will come over slightly further, but I didn’t mind the way she went in a recent trial here, winning it.

LONG SHOT: Race Three Number 3 Wallace Street
