2/5/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

Sandown Lakeside will play host to a strong nine race program on Saturday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

3 Rose Of Sebring (Bet Now: $1.95 TOP ODDS) is a Hayes/Dabernig trained filly that debuted with a strong second on the Hillside course here before going to a Ballarat maiden on a heavy track. Didn’t beat much, but she had the race won a fair way out and duly spanked them. Comes back to town in winning form and has had a solid grounding to be hard to beat here.

6 Wegobam (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is a daughter of Sebring for Team Corstens that had jumped out pretty well prior to debuting at Ballarat where she was back off the speed before peeling wider and finishing off hard to just miss out on the win when second to No Restriction. Good lead that Williams sticks from Ballarat. Just has to overcome the gate.

7 Wyld Savanna (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is on the seven day back up for John Sadler after racing last Saturday in the Anzac Day Stakes at Flemington when held up for a few strides but for the most part, had her chance behind Flying Award. Looks to have her share of talent and I don’t think the depth here is strong, so an improved showing is on the cards.

14 No Money No Honey (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS) for me at a price. Richard Laming trains this mare, who looked in need of the run first up in the Bendigo Bracelet before going to Warwick Farm where she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Amitto. She’s a mare who loves to get her toe in and really, I’d rather back this girl at the big odds each way than take short odds for Duke Of Plumpton.

6 Duke Of Plumpton (Bet Now: $1.90 TOP ODDS) is a Patrick Payne trained son of Bachelor Duke that was a late drifter in betting when resuming at Echuca but after getting a good run just off the speed, Egan eased wider and the four year old produced sharp change up speed and was much too good for his rivals. Harder here, but has upside and stable is flying.

3 Break And Enter (Bet Now: $31.00 TOP ODDS) could be one to look at for multiples at big odds. Resumed in the Warracknabeal Cup and was far from disgraced in defeat I thought behind Rupture, who came out and bolted up last Saturday at Flemington, so the form does read well. Just a query on whether or not this horse wants more ground but has a great second up record.

3 Lunakorn (Bet Now: $1.80 TOP ODDS) is very much above average for the Anthony Freedman camp that is on the quick back up after racing last Wednesday at Bendigo, sitting back off a good speed before making a sustained run out wide and despite that long effort, she was strong to the line and was far too good. She’ll eat up 1400m and is hard to beat.

6 Knowles… (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) it was ugly if you were on her in the Gold Dash at Caulfield two weeks ago. Just got back on the fence, held up and couldn’t get a proper chance to build momentum when fourth to Lankan Star. Not sure she wins, but goes close. Two runs prior were excellent, so hopefully with clear air this time around, she can bounce back.

2 Florent (Bet Now: $16.00 TOP ODDS) comes back to 1400m but has to be rated as a leading chance. Ran in the VOBIS Guineas when nearly the rank outsider but she was very impressive from off the speed, charging clear late for a dominant win despite no real market support. Back to 1400m is the little knock, but she has the runs on the board now and will be strong late.

I will give 5 Cath’s Village (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) another chance. Was keen on her running well last time out at Warwick Farm and while on face value, she was disappointing, I think she was ridden far too warm. I think with a more conservative steer in ground she absolutely loves, I think she’s the each way play here in a tricky Mares race.

1 Too Good Too Hard (Bet Now: $2.00 TOP ODDS) has been excellent in two runs back from a break for Phillip Stokes. Beat all bar I’m Telling Ya first up at Mornington before going to Caulfield when put into a lovely spot by Nolen and was able to wear them down late. Think back up to 1200m, third up, hard fit, clearly she’s likeable against these.

11 Atlantica (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) is a knockout chance against these. Henry Dwyer trains this mare, who resumed at Geelong when doing plenty of work on speed and was entitled to drop away but she kept chipping away and was very good in defeat, bloused late by Written Gem. Proven city performer who lands near the pace and that’s the spot to be at this track.

Going for some value here in the shape of 5 Craftmanship (Bet Now: $10.00), who ran over 1700m last Saturday at Flemington and I thought was really warming to the task late out wide behind Betcha Flying. That run followed a luckless effort behind Dalasan at Morphettville so getting out to a more ideal trip now, he rates highly for me in a thin race.

The Sydney 3YO form stood up in the St Leger last week, so giving respect to 1 Power Scheme (Bet Now: $5.00), who returns to Melbourne after a two run Sydney prep, where he was far from disgraced each time in the Carbine Club and then two weeks later in the Frank Packer. That followed his Mornington Guineas effort where the bob of the head separated him and Chuck A Luck. Hard to beat here.

3 Kusari (Bet Now: $11.00) lacks the class of some of these but he does look to have staying prowess so don’t think the 2100m here will be an issue. He led throughout over 2080m at Cranbourne last time out and put the win down to a lovely front running steer from Jye McNeil, who controlled things to suit himself and was too tough on the line. He’ll land on speed and give a sight.

Good little test here for 14 Starcaster (Bet Now: $3.80), an Anthony Freedman trained import that was resuming for his second Australian prep at the midweeks at Geelong and you just had to like the way he powered to the line under McNeil. Admittedly, didn’t beat much, but the way he put them away was impressive and no doubt he’ll measure up at this level before his career ends. Can he measure up here straight away? Time will tell.

3 Rising Red (Bet Now: $9.00) is ready to win. Ran over the Caulfield mile three weeks ago, his first run from a break, and worked home strongly late when a close up fourth to Kentucky Breeze. He is a horse who loves wet ground, which he likely gets here, and up to 2100m, for an in form stable, he’ll take a power of beating here.

Pretty keen to see the Maher/Eustace trained 9 Lord Belvedere (Bet Now: $13.00). Had been trialling up really well prior to resuming at Caulfield where he found a bottomless track and seemed to struggle on it for his resumption but was okay in defeat behind Salsamor. Doesn’t want the track too wet, but can handle it if it’s soft. Got the most upside against these.

16 Dynamic Duo (Bet Now: $16.00) would be a near good thing in a maiden but I think he can run a race here provided he gains a start. Resumed in a Maiden last Wednesday at Bendigo and was very good from the back when running second to a Stakes performed filly in Monetizing so don’t think that form reads too bad. One to include at odds.

5 Open Minded (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Jimmy Choux for Anthony Freedman that is 3/3 to start his career. Resumed at the midweeks at Sandown over 1200m when getting into a good spot from the wide and despite taking a little while to get into his work, he wound up strongly late and class got him home. Better for the run and is hard to beat.

I would almost declare 2 Alburq (Bet Now: $7.50) is this was a dry track. Has been scratched recently when facing the prospect of a Heavy track so interesting they are running him here. Resumed over this track/distance and a lack of race fitness was the difference between winning and losing IMO when beaten narrowly by Final Man. If he handles the ground, he’ll go close.

5 Mystery Love (Bet Now: $3.30) looks the pony to bet on. Price/Kent trained mare that resumed three weeks ago at Caulfield and gee she was arrogant the way she put them away late. Showed a sharp turn of foot and won with something in hand under Olly, who remains on. Tricky draw, but enormous upside and clearly the one to beat.

9 Barthelona (Bet Now: $7.00) is a leading chance here up to 1200m. Resumed over 1100m at Bendigo and got close when a fast finishing second to Coruscate. Remained at the trip three weeks ago at Caulfield and was good late again when fourth to Too Good Too Hard. Looks cherry ripe for the 1200m assignment third up and is hard to beat.

11 Morrissy (Bet Now: $17.00) is worth another look here at odds. Resumed over 1100m three weeks ago at Caulfield where he was kept safe in betting but didn’t really fire a shot and was most disappointing behind Too Good Too Hard. Like he goes up to 1200m and onto a bigger track. I’d watch the market and see what it does with him.

13 Buffalo River (Bet Now: $1.95) for me in the get out. Talented four year old for Michael Moroney that is four weeks between runs since resuming at Caulfield over 1400m and gave them a spanking from the front in an impressive return to the track. Gets Olly back on and from gate one, should hold up and prove hard to run down despite the class rise.

14 Harbour Views (Bet Now: $4.50) is the boom horse that resumes for Matty Williams and most eyes will be on him given the hype he has. His unbeaten run came to an end in the Country Final during Cup Week at Flemington when second to Star Missile, where he was held up a vital stage and couldn’t produce the change up speed required to win. The two jumpouts tell me he wants a trip, so 1400m first up, I couldn’t back with confidence, but he has so much scope.

11 Savvy Oak (Bet Now: $51.00) is a Savabeel four year old for the Busuttin/Young camp that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since the Pakenham Cup where he, like most, struggled on that testing track and in a testing race won by the subsequent Sydney Cup winner Etah James. Has had three jumpouts for his return, so the grounding is there to run well and can sprint nicely fresh.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 5 Mystery Love

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 5 Craftmanship

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 16 Dynamic Duo
