2/12/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

Nine races will be run and won at Sandown Lakeside this Saturday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

Keep an eye on 3 Juanito Uvez (Bet Now: $14.00). Jarrod McLean trained colt who trialled at Ballarat in readiness for the Clockwise Classic. He had the box seat run in the trial and wasn’t asked to do much but he looked to travel well and was quite strong to the line. Didn’t get run in the race, but he instead comes here and finds a very winnable race on debut.

6 Sanctimonious (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Foxwedge on debut for the low flying Tony McEvoy yard. This colt trialled at Cranbourne on Monday and went very well to my eye, winning by over two lengths and running a tick over 47 seconds for the 800m journey. Stable are flying with their youngsters and this one looks handy.

9 Classic Choice (Bet Now: $14.00) is a daughter of I Am Invincible having her first start for the Hayes/Dabernig team. This girl ran in a three horse trial at Benalla and though she ran last of the trio, she looked to move quite nicely and wasn’t knocked about in being beaten 1.5L. Stable should always be respected with their youngsters and Williams steers.

5 Holy Freeze (Bet Now: $2.50) is a Darren Weir trained colt who comes through the a race here last week won by Echo Jet. His effort was a beauty I thought, working home with real purpose from the back in a slowly run affair, clocking sub 33 for his final 600m, one of the more faster splits of the meeting. He can go close here for sure.

In terms of horses with exposed wet track form, that lies clearly with 4 Bellegano (Bet Now: $7.00), who is first up here for Robert Smerdon. This filly hasn’t raced since June when winning over 1400m here on a testing track, beating home a couple of handy types in Mulk and Cosmic Impact. Two trials leading in have been good, draws well and looks a definite threat.

8 Flash Cash (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Matt Laurie trained gelding who took on the older horses last time out at Mornington where he got into a bumping duel with Bugari and that probably cost him in the end when second to Jester Angel. The good news is that Bugari came out and won on Wednesday to frank the form.

1 Mrs Gardenia (Bet Now: $2.15) is a mare that is low flying at the moment for the Darren Weir team. She bolted up at Geelong two back before backing up a week later in the Summoned where she was hailed the winner but was nabbed late by the well backed Long Time Ago. Back to this level, hard fit…keen to bet up.

3 Toffee Nose (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Danny O’Brien trained mare who is second up in this race after resuming over 1300m at Bendigo where the tempo was clearly against her but she stuck on well behind Sword Of Justice. Has a really good overall record and her lone win on a soft track saw her beat the subsequent Queensland Derby winner Ruhthven. Reads well.

6 Fudged (Bet Now: $6.00) is another mare in ripping form, this one trained by Cindy Alderson. Lovely ride saw her win last Wednesday on the Lakeside and record back-to-back wins. She has performed okay in Saturday grade before, but she is racing in career best form at the moment, so I think she can go close here.

5 Atone (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Robert Smerdon trained youngster who was very impressive I thought when winning on debut at Mornington. Callow put the horse into a lovely spot just off the speed before pushing the button down the side, sliding up towards the leaders, putting them away and then kicking on for a sharp win. He’ll eat up the Sandown mile.

1 Storm Harbour (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Harbour Watch colt for the Weir camp who is building a pretty solid record and deserves a crack in town after a pretty good win against the older horses on Donald Cup Day where he was off the bit before the turn and under pressure but he kept finding and eventually surged hard late to win. He can go on with it here.

4 Justice Glory (Bet Now: $31.00) is the watch horse. Hayes/Dabernig trained three year old who drops a mile in grade after contesting the Twilight Glow last time out where he got a fair way back off the speed and just never really looked likely where he was behind Yulong Xingsheng. Much better suited at this level and can bounce back hard.

13 Silent General (Bet Now: $3.50) looks the way to go. Darren Weir trained three year old who broke the maiden status last time out over 1400m at Echuca. Was wide no cover for the trip but was bolting under John Allen and when he asked for the big effort, there was a decent response and he dashed clear. Very thin race this, so he can measure up for sure.

16 Urban Royal (Bet Now: $2.80) is a three year old filly trained by Matt Cumani who landed some big bets when resuming with a brilliant maiden win at Seymour. Got a mile back in the run but produced a brilliant finale to nab them late and clock some sharp splits for the entire meeting. Good sign that the stable have sent her straight to town.

7 Muccino (Bet Now: $11.00) is a tough campaigner who should be suited up to 1400m on the big track. He ran over 1350m at Donald on Donald Cup Day where he sat on a genuine speed and tried hard to finish it off but just ran out of puff late. He’s better suited with cover, so if that eventuates, he can surprise at odds.

8 Sprightly Lass (Bet Now: $1.85) on top but no good thing as the market has her. Got a very cheap lead last time out over 1000m at Moonee Valley and rightfully gave a really good kick on the bend to win and did it rather comfortably too in the end. Takes on some handy types here, but she’s on the minimum and is proven on sift ground.

6 Miss Wonderland (Bet Now: $3.80) is the big, big query here. Quality mare resuming for Aaron Purcell after 10 months off. She hasn’t raced since the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast where she ran a gutsy seventh to Flying Jess. Thought she trialled up well last Tuesday at Cranbourne and to my eye is forward enough to run well.

2 Chiavari (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Nick Harnett trained mare who can be a real tough one to follow, but on her day, she can definitely bob up in a race of this nature. She hasn’t raced since the Northwood Plume at Caulfield where she finished down the track behind Cool Passion, with that form holding up really well. Goes very well on the fresh side and she’ll be strong late.

I find 1 Jungle Edge (Bet Now: $2.35) a fascinating runner. 1300m-1000m here after winning the Kevin Heffernan where he had things handed to him nicely. A soft lead, wet track…fell in, but it was a strong win. They claim here with Georgina Cartwright, but he draws to hold the rail/lead and we know he’s very tough and with the rain expected he will be hard to beat once again.

5 Lady Esprit (Bet Now: $4.60) is a ripping mare for the Aaron Purcell team who should take some beating here. She ran in the Doveton here a fortnight back where she tried hard from off the pace but couldn’t reel in the in form Crystal Dreamer. She’s reliable, for the most part, and she should go very close here.

4 Rock ‘N’ Gold (Bet Now: $7.00) is a beauty for the Ellerton/Zahra yard. He has a brilliant finishing burst on him and is never really far away from the action. That was the case last time out in the Doveton when making up ground from the back to run fourth to Crystal Dreamer. He handles all conditions, and he does have a good record on wet ground.

5 Al Haram (Bet Now: $11.00) is a very, very interesting runner. Former French galloper making his Australian debut for the Hayes/Dabernig team. His form overseas does read well, with some nice efforts in blacktype events with strong subsequent form around him. Recent jump out was encouraging and did go well fresh when trained overseas.

3 Long Time Ago (Bet Now: $5.50) was specked at longer odds for the Waterhouse/Bott team when resuming in the Summoned a fortnight back and aided by a ripping rail hugging ride from McEvoy, the mare dashed through to nab Mrs Gardenia right on the peg. Should only improve off that and rates highly for me.

14 Jolie’s Cafe (Bet Now: 15.00) might be a bit outclassed here but she does have a few things going for her. This John Sadler trained mare is in ripping form at the moment, albeit in weaker company, but her effort last time out at the Valley was gutsy behind Mr Gustavo given the work she did in the run. Tumbles to 51kg now, maps well, has handled a soft track before and is bred to eat up a heavy track.

Siding with 15 Widgee Turf (Bet Now: $5.00) in a really good race to close out the card. Patrick Payne trains this four year old, who hasn’t raced since June 24 over the Flemington mile when at the end of his prep it seemed behind Thaad. Liked the way he went in a recent Cranbourne trial and his lone wet track run, he spanked Mr Sinatra and the Group winner Tiamo Grace.

9 Data Point…(Bet Now: $3.50) yep, he’s Data Point, but his form would see him win this. Problem is he is just a bludger and doesn’t like attacking the line with any purpose, but he does have a very good first up record, he draws well, he gets the claim, he will love a track with give in it, and a recent jump out was very encouraging.

2 Orient Line (Bet Now: $16.00) is a talented galloper for the John Moloney team who could be a knockout chance at odds. Ran over 1500m at Moonee Valley on Manikato Night where he sat off the speed but they sprinted too sharply for him and he finished down the track behind Black Sheep. Runs well on the big tracks and his two runs prior saw him produce good late splits.

VALUE: Race Eight Number 5 Al Haram
