SA metro racing this Saturday heads to Murray Bridge. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:56) Irongate (bm68) 1200m
I’ll go with 1 Bleriot (Bet Now: $1.85) on top but $1.40 is too short so I’ll just watch. She does clearly have the best exposed race day form and was solid in defeat fresh when a close up fourth to Garrire. Tick over trial was a nice piece of work and she does find a very thin juvenile race.
7 Cornelia Street (Bet Now: $6.50) is an interesting runner. Hayes/Dabernig filly that resumes, having not raced since her debut at Geelong on Boxing Day when down the track behind Faulds. The Tatura trial was just fair but stable wouldn’t bring her over for nothing you would assume.
4 Harmonius Star (Bet Now: $34.00) is one I could entertain for wider exotics. Darryl Carrison trained juvenile that is on debut. Daughter of Starcraft that had a public trial back in February at Port Lincoln when not really setting the world alight but has since had a break so watch the market.
Race 2. (12:31) Carlton Draught (bm74) 2500m
1 Canford (Bet Now: $1.50) is racing really well at the moment for Ryan Balfour and will take some beating here. Be forgiving of his run on the Parks track a fortnight back. He got a mile out of his ground and was set an impossible task given the race shape. Actually did a remarkable job to get as close as he did. Hard to beat if he can sit closer in the run.
4 Azzureous (Bet Now: $5.00) is a proven track/distance performer, which should hold him in good stead to fill a minor spot. Forget he went around behind Lord Bouzeron in the race mentioned above. Just got too far back and was never really a factor. Better suited here and can run a much improved race.
5 Turf Man (Bet Now: $7.00) is another that bounce back from the Lord Bouzeron. He was in a similar boat to the two mentioned above. Back and never really a winning factor given where he was in the run. Is a two time winner at Murray Bridge and the small field will help his cause.
Race 3. (13:06) Paterson's Bulk Transport Mdn 1000m
9 Spinola Bay (Bet Now: $3.20) has the talent under the hood to win a race or two. Problem is she hasn’t been able to do it and has been costly for punters in both runs back from a spell, the latest run coming three weeks ago when third to impressive winner Kenobi. She could easily blow this field away…do I want to take short odds though?
4 Equa (Bet Now: $26.00) is a daughter of Ambidexter that resumes for the Ashton Downing camp. Hasn’t raced since her debut back in October at Gawler when near the speed and fighting on gamely to finish second. Her two trials to get ready have been fair, so I’d watch the market and see what it does.
6 Mystery Flyer (Bet Now: $3.20) is a daughter of Starspangledbanner for Team Corstens that is on debut. This girl was down to run last week but was scratched to be saved for a metro maiden, which I find interesting. Recent jumpout was solid enough and stable gets the leading rider for start one.
Race 4. (13:41) Smedley Tyre Service (bm68) 1600m
9 En Francais (Bet Now: $1.70) is three weeks between runs for Jake Stephens since racing on the Parks track. She was heavily backed to win and at the top of the straight, looked like it would be no betting, but she found She’s Stylish a touch too good. Like her on the bigger track up in trip and she has more upside than most.
1 Thrill Kill (Bet Now: $5.00) should be suited at 1600m. Peter Hardacre trained three year old that was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1400m on the Parks track two weeks back. Heavily backed late and thought he was given every chance. Just not good enough in wearing down Star Of Uma. Either he didn’t run the 1400m out or he’s looking for further. Hoping it’s the latter.
The rise to the mile I do like for 4 Sparkup (Bet Now: $6.50). Team Jolly trained three year old that raced against the older horses two weeks ago on the Parks track and worked home strongly late, just missing out on picking up Cashin’ Chex. He’s racing like 1600m suits and finds a winnable race.
Race 5. (14:16) Fibretrack (bm64) 1000m
8 Hills (Bet Now: $1.75) is on the seven day back up for Will Clarken after winning last Saturday on the Parks track. Was wide no cover throughout but on that track, was no disadvantage and she was miles too good. Hard to knock the way she has returned and finds another winnable metro race.
9 Beerz With Clint (Bet Now: $23.00) is a sneaky chance at odds. Ran over 1000m on the Parks track three weeks back and was an eye catcher I thought from the back when fourth to impressive winner Rock Of Kryptonite. Would love a rise in trip but if the track is playing towards swoopers, he’ll come into play.
2 Beeokay (Bet Now: $21.00) is a sneaky chance at odds. Ran last Saturday on the Parks track where he was part of a strong speed battle and was entitled to drop away but he kept battling on and wasn’t too bad in defeat I thought behind Hills. If he gets a more economical run, he can run a cheeky race at a price.
Race 6. (14:56) Magic Millions (bm64) 1400m
4 Cashin’ Chex (Bet Now: $8.00) is a nice horse for Kristi Evans that has shown good city class talent since day one. Got a metro win on the board two weeks ago on the Parks track, finishing hard late from off the speed to score. He has won at the mile, so a truly 1400m here is ideal and he’ll be strong late.
6 Trumpsta (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding that is racing quite well at the moment. Ran over 1400m on the Parks track a fortnight back and loomed to win when presented. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a close up third to Cashin’ Chex. He’ll be better for having that 1400m run under the belt and appeals big time.
13 Fallow (Bet Now: $27.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Travis Doudle trained gelding that ran three weeks back on the Parks track and worked to the line pretty well I thought without threatening behind Fall On A Star. Back up in trip on a bigger track, she’s a knockout chance.
Race 7. (15:36) Ata Sa (bm84) 1200m
10 Midnight Storm (Bet Now: $3.80)is a very genuine horse for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp that is on the seven day back up after bolting up last Saturday on the Parks. Wishart rode a very good race from the front and nothing from behind was going to beat him. Stubby has a good record on him and he finds another winnable race.
8 Street Tough (Bet Now: $6.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Scott Brunton, now finds himself with Will Clarken. Has a very good record from Tassie, winning seven of 23 with a further nine placings. Looked sharp in a recent trial and we know the record Clarken has at improving a tried horse.
14 Miss Jane (Bet Now: $51.00) is one that can sneak a first four spot at a decent price. Resumed a fortnight back on the Parks track over 1000m and just couldn’t get involved form where she was in the run behind Larimer Street. Plain second up record, so might need one more, but I think a rise in trip and a bigger track will help her cause.
Race 8. (16:16) Railway Hotel Tailem Bend-bm76 1600m
6 Pearl Bandit (Bet Now: $2.40) has come back in super order and that was well and truly confirmed two weeks ago on the Parks track. He gave them an absolute spanking over 1550m, gapping his rivals by over four lengths. The run prior at Flemington was super so he can go right on with it now.
14 Robe Bay (Bet Now: $13.00) is racing well and can threaten. Outclassed two back in the Centaurea behind In Good Health. Came back to 1550m on the Parks track and worked to the line pretty well. Just no match for a very much in form Pearl Bandit. Big track, up in trip, she appeals.
2 Von Costa Glass (Bet Now: $31.00) comes back to the mile after racing over 2100m at Penola last time out, which was around three weeks ago. He was off the speed throughout and did try hard when third to Muntham Missile. He’ll be spotting these a start but be strong at the end.
Race 9. (16:55) Weddings @ Bridges Event-bm60 1200m
4 Great Diviner (Bet Now: $3.50) should be suited up to 1200m for Will Clarken. Both runs this time in have come over 1000m, the latest being two weeks ago on the Parks track, closing off with purpose late when second to Tanja’s Dream, beaten narrowly. Bigger track, fitter and up in trip, he looks hard to beat.
3 Munster (Bet Now: $4.20) is on the seven day back up for Michael Hickmott after racing last Saturday on the Parks track where he was near the speed throughout and when asked to go, he responded. Just found one better in Greetings Ned. Stable have good success with the quick back up and this guy has upside to come.
15 Maid In Milan (Bet Now: $17.00) is an outside winning chance if things fall into place for her. Ran on the Parks track a few weeks ago and seemed to have her chance but was far from disgraced in defeat I thought behind Rock Of Kryptonite. Her best can see her sneak into a first four spot.
