18/6/2016 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Moonee Valley

Racing returns to the Valley on Saturday for a strong nine race card, and the depth looks very good. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:15) : Friends Of Epworth Handicap 1200m:

Back Me: 12 Vegas Strip (Bet Now: $4.20) might not have beat much last start under the Cranbourne lights but gee she was sharp in winning, leading most of the way. Can only see upside with her and this isn’t the strongest two year old race going.
Big Danger: 1 Artie Dee Two (Bet Now: $4.50) was smashed in betting when debuting on the Geelong Synthetic and showed dazzling speed to lead and in the end scored quite a dominant win. Drawn poorly, but has the early tempo and there was plenty to like about the debut performance.
Roughie: 11 Trenchant (Bet Now: $21.00) debuted in that same Geelong race and just forget she went around given she was caught wide no cover for the trip and faded out of it. Drawn better here and Williams jumps on, so she looks a sharp improver.

Race Two (12:50) : Pantry Packer Handicap (78) 2040m:

Back Me: 2 Nesbo (Bet Now: $3.70) was well backed at odds when resuming at Sandown and was given a lovely patient steer from Dwayne Dunn to get the job done impressively. He loves a track with give in it, and really, there is only upside.
Big Danger: 10 King Way (Bet Now: $3.60) ran over the mile at Cranbourne a tick over three weeks back and tried hard when a close up second to Pin Your Hopes. His European form suggests he’ll be effective at 2000m and beyond, and this is the first time that it will occur in Australia for him. Hard to beat.
Roughie: 5 Schockemohle (Bet Now: $10.00) resumed at Sandown a fortnight back and closed off okay late in the piece behind impressive winner Nesbo. He does tend to save his best for the Valley, so the step up to 2040m here second up appears to be ideal and he is a knockout chance.

Race Three (13:28) : Vital Healthcare Property Trust Handicap 2040m:

Back Me: 3 Sense Of Occasion (Bet Now: $11.00) ran in the Port Adelaide Cup four weeks back and closed off nicely from near last behind impressive winner Zanteca. Was due to run at the same trip last week but was scratched, but I think 2040m here won’t be an issue, and with a likely genuine tempo here, I think this gelding will get every chance and he represents really good value.
Big Danger: 1 Turnitaround (Bet Now: $2.60) is the form hose in Victoria at the moment, winning four on the bounce, the latest coming three weeks back at Sandown over 1800m when eventually wearing down Longeron. Has a handy record at the track and should take some beating.
Roughie: 2 Crafty Cruiser (Bet Now: $51.00) is a grand campaigner for Bryce Stanaway who resumed at Sandown and worked home well behind Kenjorwood. He tends to save his best for the Valley and there is only upside.

Race Four (14:05) : Zouki Handicap (84) 1600m:

Back Me: 8 Ma Jones (Bet Now: $6.50) ran over the mile at Bendigo last time out and she found the best ground out wide, which proved the difference between winning and losing. She has been up for a while, but as we know with these Darren Weir horses, if they are in form, they remain in training and they can maintain form for a long period of time.
Big Danger: 2 Khutulun (Bet Now: $10.00) ran over 1300m at Sandown a fortnight back and worked home alright without threatening when running fifth to in form mare Forgeress. She runs well at the track and the 2kg claim for Jordan Childs is a big tick.
Roughie: 10 Solar Burst (Bet Now: $19.00) is a bit of a non winner, but she is racing really well at the moment. She ran at Sale last Wednesday and worked home strongly late when fourth to Airalign, beaten just over a length. Williams remains on and she gets a 2kg weight relief from that outing.

Race Five (14:45) : Oneview Healthcare Handicap 1000m:

Back Me: 6 Strykinglee (Bet Now: $3.20) is a ripper for Matt Laurie. Won impressively on debut before going to Ballarat where she took on the older mares and showed great fight in the straight to get the job done. Back to her own age and sex now, so she has to rate as one of the hardest to beat.
Big Danger: 16 Prontezza (Bet Now: $5.50) could not have been more impressive in breaking her maiden status last time out at Moe, bolting up by over four lengths and beating home Inspired Estelle, the close relation to Lankan Rupee who bolted up next start, so the form reads well and this looks a very winnable race.
Roughie: 4 World Of Hope (Bet Now: $5.50) was a strong first up winner before going to Sandown where she just overraced a touch too hard and weakened late behind Magnagem. She’ll love the hot speed here and being third up, she should be at her peak fitness, plus Williams steers.

Race Six (15:25) : Silver Thomas Hanley (84) 1000m:

Back Me: 8 Bella Capri (Bet Now: $7.00) has been given an eight week break since storming home late to get the job done on her home track at Caulfield. Williams takes the ride now, she draws well and has won her lone start here.
Big Danger: 9 Magnagem (Bet Now: $8.50) sat off speed last time out at Sandown before taking the lead in the straight and showing good fight in the run home to get the job done. The 3kg claim for Ben Thompson helps and on that basis, she does look well placed.
Roughie: 1 Celeritas (Bet Now: $13.00) resumes here for Robert Smerdon. Her trials leading in have been terrible, but the stable can do that and fire fresh, and this mare loves racing at the track, plus Dwayne Dunn rides the mare better than most.

Race Seven (16:05) : Kane Constructions Handicap 1200m:

Back Me: 12 Firsthand (Bet Now: $2.90) looks the way to go here. He debuted at Wyong in February and though he didn’t beat much, he was sharp in getting the job done by a space. Recent Rosehill trial win was very sharp, and the time was quick. He’ll go close here with luck in running.
Big Danger: 1 Prince Of Brooklyn (Bet Now: $5.00) is clearly the watch horse. Resumes here for Mick Price after just two runs in the Spring, with the latest resulting in a last behind Bon Aurum, but he had no luck there at all, nearly getting knocked down halfway down the straight. Looked sharp in recent jump outs, he flies fresh and should take some beating.
Roughie: 11 Well Sighted (Bet Now: $13.00) ran at Cranbourne a tick over three weeks back and had to make ground near the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be, when fifth to Pakaya Prince, beaten four lengths. The first up run was a ripper, so I think he can bounce back and is a must for exotics.

Race Eight (16:43) : GJK Facility Services Travis Harrison Cup 1600m:

Back Me: 9 Lord Durante (Bet Now: $9.50) looks the best bet on the program. He ran over the mile at Sandown three weeks ago and got held up a touch before eventually getting clear and working home well to run third to Kenjorwood. He saves his best for here and has a very good record at the track/distance.
Big Danger: 13 Spreadeagled (Bet Now: $5.50) ran over 1400m at Sandown three weeks back and was given a 12/10 steer from Dwayne Dunn to get the job done narrowly but impressively. Third up here, so he should be close to peak fitness, Dunn sticks and is unbeaten in two runs at the track.
Roughie: 4 Chance To Dance (Bet Now: $4.00) resumed over 1400m at Flemington and worked home powerfully late when running fourth to Jimando. Last time he was at Moonee Valley, he beat stablemate The United States. That form reads very well for a race like this.

Race Nine (17:15) : Di Office Design Handicap 1200m:

Back Me: 6 Vibrant Rouge (Bet Now: $12.00) creates great interest for me here. Former Glenn Thornton mare now with Mick Kent. Not often that Kent gets tried horses, but she did look well in a recent Cranbourne trial and she does have a solid record at the Valley.
Big Danger: 9 Kievann (Bet Now: $10.00) was enormous when resuming over 1000m at Sandown on June 4 when lumping 61kg on the heavy track and sitting wide throughout before working home strongly to run a close up third to Magnagem. Down on the minimum, has the speed to carve over and is a three time winner at the track.
Roughie: 7 Magnus Reign (Bet Now: $16.00) resumed over 1000m on the Parks track a couple of weeks ago and worked home strongly near last to run fifth to Heart Of A Lion. He is a Valley specialist, draws well and is a second up winner.
