Ipswich will host their biggest race day on Saturday with Ipswich Cup Day, eight races filled with quality, including several blacktype events. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:08) : XXXX Gold Ipswich Mile (Class 6) 1666m:
Back Me: Really keen to see how 5 Outraged (Bet Now: $6.00) measures up. I thought he was the run of the day when resuming at Doomben, sitting last in a slowly run race before flashing home to run a narrow second to Beckham. He is a stayer, so for him to do that fresh tells me he is set for a winning prep and it could start here, and a recent trial was excellent.
Big Danger: 3 Heart Of A Warrior (Bet Now: $2.60) does look perfectly placed here by Tony Gollan. He has been given a month freshen up since running a game third to Jumbo Prince and Rudy in the Members Handicap. Unbeaten in two runs at the track, should be out of trouble on speed, and dropping back from blacktype to Class 6…gee he’ll be hard to beat.
Roughie: 10 The Waco Kid (Bet Now: $15.00) ran over this distance at Doomben a tick over two weeks back and stuck to the task well behind Kazoom after being well backed in betting late. Being third up now off a long break and for the new trainer, he should be close to peak fitness, and if the pressure is on, he’ll love running on from behind that.

Race Two (12:43) : Schweppes TL Cooney Handicap 1350m:
Back Me: 1 Always Sacred (Bet Now: $4.60) is the clear class runner so he has to go on top. He ran three weeks back in the Queensland Day at Doomben and made up ground against the bias behind Kamacite. Much, much easier here, and I think only the bad barrier can beat him.
Big Danger: 2 Don’t Deny Us (Bet Now: $13.00) has won two from two this time, the latest coming over 1200m here a tick over three weeks ago when sitting off speed and peeling at the right time to win. Bit more depth here, but senior rider goes aboard and all you can is win, which is what this horse has done.
Roughie: 8 Madame De Ban (Bet Now: $15.00) ran at this track/distance at the same meeting mentioned above against the older mares and I thought she was impressive in getting the job done, albeit narrowly. She has a bit of upside and stable is going really well.

Race Three (13:20) : Sirromet Bundamba Plate 1100m:
Back Me: 4 Sir Donald (Bet Now: $2.25) didn’t beat much on debut over 1000m here on May 25, but he was sharp, he did everything right and he appeared to handle the track quite nicely. Jeff Lloyd, who rode the horse that day, sticks here and he should be on speed again from the good draw and be in it for a long way.
Big Danger: 1 Spot The Diff (Bet Now: $8.00) is the class runner engaged here and has been given a freshen up since failing in the Ken Russell behind stablemate Royal Tithe. Dittman chooses this filly over the stablemate, so I’ll respect that, and she has a bit of class on these.
Roughie: 6 General Assault (Bet Now: $17.00) is a handy gelding that hasn’t raced since early April when third to Bagus in a rich two year old race at Rockhampton. No trials, but the talent is there, and if they go silly in front, he’ll be finishing off strongly.

Race Four (13:57) : Ray White Ipswich Dash (Class 6) 1100m:
Back Me: 9 Londehero (Bet Now: $5.00) was well backed when racing at Doomben three weeks and though he worked home alright, he was simply no match for the tearaway winner Upstart Pride. Gets a 3kg weight swing on that horse here and draws better, so I’m confident he’ll turn the tables and prove hard to beat.
Big Danger: 3 Upstart (Bet Now: $3.90) won that race and gee he was impressive, carving some hot sectionals in front and giving nothing else a chance in bolting up. The scratchings will help his cause here, and he is hard fit and in form.
Roughie: 5 I Am Boss (Bet Now: $13.00) ran over 1200m at Doomben last Wednesday and stuck to the task pretty gamely when running fourth to the well performed Punta Norte. He has won his lone start this track, draws to get good cover and back 100m in trip is ideal.

Race Five (14:37) : Queensland Times Winter Provincial Stayers Series Final (80) 2150m:
Back Me: 12 Jimmy Hoffa (Bet Now: $26.00) comes through the 2200m at the Sunshine Coast a couple of Sundays back where he was wide no cover throughout yet still stuck on gamely when third to All Clear. He was jumping to that trip from 1700m, so that hard run, I think, should top him off nicely for this assignment.
Big Danger: 3 Artibai (Bet Now: $5.00) could not have been ridden any better by Browne in that race mentioned above. He ambled to take the lead on the turn and looked set to win, but he just couldn’t quite finish it off. Firmer footing here is a big tick, Browne sticks and he does have a bit of upside.
Roughie: 15 Outstrip (Bet Now: $17.00) isn’t one of my horses, but he can always threaten in a race like this. He ran over 1800m at the Sunny Coast last time out and got too far back behind Blackjack Bella. This race is generally survival of the fittest, and he is hard fit, and does have a turn of foot if he is close enough.

Race Six (15:17) : Channel 7 Ipswich Cup 2150m:
Back Me: 300m out, 2 Maurus (Bet Now: $2.45) looked the winner of the Doomben Cup but he just lacked the killer punch and had to settle for an excellent fifth. Now he’s had that hard run under the belt, he should be hard to beat here.
Roughie: 1 Puccini (Bet Now: $6.00) is another that backs up from last Saturday. He contested the Brisbane Cup (2400m), and quite frankly, just forget he went around. Had no luck at all when appearing to travel well and was pretty much not tested. He has handled the quick turnaround previously and you always have to respect a horse with the Weir polish.
Roughie: 5 Jumbo Prince (Bet Now: $8.50) is on the back up after racing in the Wayne Wilson Mile last weekend at Eagle Farm where he just couldn’t get into the race behind impressive winner Hopgfarten. He looks well suited up in trip and love racing at Ipswich.

Race Seven (15:57) : City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes 1350m:
Back Me: 2 Steel Zip (Bet Now: $8.50) is a greybeard but is still loving his racing, as we have seen in a couple of recent trial wins, which have been sharp and the times have been quick. He looks ready to run a beauty fresh, and he’ll run a mighty race for you.
Big Danger: 1 Ninth Legion (Bet Now: $8.50) is clearly the best horse in the race, but the weather will determine his claims. Forget he went around last time out at Rosehill behind Marenostro given it was on a heavy track and he is a complete dud on a track with moisture. Third up now, so he should be ready fitness wise and is a definite threat.
Roughie: 13 Old Habits (Bet Now: $51.00) can be a nightmare to follow, but there is no denying the talent is there. He ran at the Gold Coast a month back and closed off well from near last without much luck. Fast tempo will suit him here, on the minimum and looks a great knockout hope on his best form.

Race Eight (16:33) : Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic 1350m:
Back Me: 10 Serenade (Bet Now: $3.30) looks the way to go here. She comes through the Bright Shadow a month back where she tried hard but was outgunned late when second to Palazzo Publico. She should get the dream run again from the gate and now gets the services of Jeff Lloyd.
Big Danger: 2 Echo Gal (Bet Now: $4.60) ran last Saturday in the QTC Cup and I thought she ran very well in defeat behind Spill The Beans. Much easier here, and given she’s trained by the lady with the race named in her honour, expect her to be wound up big time.
Roughie: 3 Slots (Bet Now: $9.00) also comes through the Dane Ripper from last Saturday where she was just simply outclassed behind Cradle Me in what was a hot race for the females. This looks more her go and she did run a close up fifth in this race last year.
