Queensland metro racing this Saturday heads to the Gold Coast for a nine race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

WATCH LIVE RACING AT

Race 1. (11:37) Washpool Lodge Handicap (1MW) 1400m

Back Me

Just siding the way of 5 Sornja (Bet Now: $5.00). Chased hard first up when second to stablemate Tabbing before racing over the 1200m at Doomben a fortnight back and he wasn’t quite as sharp but stuck on well behind Prue’s Angel. Bigger track and up to 1400m looks ideal for this girl and she looks to have more room for improvement.

Danger

Hard to knock the way 1 Prue’s Angel (Bet Now: $3.00) is going about it at the moment. Didn’t appear to handle Ipswich first up but proved too good prior to racing over 1200m at Doomben where she was on speed and was there to be beaten but her turn of foot at the top of the straight put the race to bed. Has to tick the 1400m box but confident she can.

Long Shot

4 Sister Patti (Bet Now: $11.00) sin’t one of mine but it’s the sort of race she could easily win without surprising. Comes back to mares grade after taking on the boys a fortnight back at Doomben where she was okay in defeat behind Shogun Sun. Should get a lovely run from the gate and the depth isn’t as strong.

Race 2. (12:12) Oakwood Farm Handicap 1400m

Back Me

Not the strongest of three year old races but siding with 6 Trail Of Gory (Bet Now: $4.00). Tony Gollan trains this filly, who didn’t appear to handle Ipswich at all last time, wobbling badly around the turn and losing momentum, but she picked up and surged hard late to grab an unlikely win. Win prior over 1100m here was dominant and the form out of that has been great.

Danger

4 Sugar Sizzle (Bet Now: $7.00) is the interesting runner. Angela Plumb trains this filly, who was three weeks between runs when racing over 1100m at Gatton where she looked a good thing on paper and won accordingly under a lovely steer from Ryan Plumb. 0/3 at the Gold Coast but each of those races looked to carry really good depth.

Long Shot

2 Inflammable (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Heinrich/Rogers trained gelding who was well backed when debuting at Doomben at the midweeks and for mine his win was one of the best of the meeting given he was a first starter, copped serious heat on speed, was there to be beaten but he kept finding and clung on to win. Comes straight to Saturday metro grade and is on the home track. Very likeable.

Race 3. (12:47) Garrards Plate (Class 6) 900m

Back Me

This does look a lovely race for 10 Rebel Miss (Bet Now: $4.40), who has a short sharp burst on her so I think the 900m jump and run, with her class, looks an ideal set up. Ran over 1000m at Randwick a fortnight back and finished off well to grab another placing for the prep when third to Soothing. Significant drop in depth and this does look her race.

Danger

9 Girl In A Million (Bet Now: $12.00) is a jump and run mare for Shane Edmonds who comes here off the back of a tough win in the Blinkan Missit on Coffs Cup Day when spending plenty of petrol to be up on speed then showed pretty good grit in the straight to win. Clean jump, she’ll lead these and give a great sight.

Long Shot

The horse that will flash late is the Norman Rogers trained 6 Alaskan Wolf (Bet Now: $46.00), who is an absolute bomb when produced fresh and can unleash a pretty decent finale. Unlucky not to win first up last prep when held up before getting bloused late by Tan Tat Diamond. If the breaks go her way, she’s certainly capable of winning.

Race 4. (13:22) Superchicken Seafood & Burgers Handicap (75) 2200m

Back Me

I’m hoping the trip north and a change of scenery can spark 1 Chatelard (Bet Now: $6.50) into form because he’s clearly the best horse in the race but whether he’s at his best or not remains to be seen. Ran over 2400m at Randwick last time and found the tough staying test a bit much when down the track behind Red Alto. If he brings his best here, he wins.

Danger

4 Occhilupo (Bet Now: $7.00) rises significantly in depth/grade but it’s hard not to be impressed by the manner in which he is going about his business at the moment. Ben Currie trains this Exceed And Excel, who has bolted up at his past two at Toowoomba over the mile and 1850m respectively. Has won up to 2150m, so the 2200m here no issue, hard fit and in form.

Long Shot

10 Antigone (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Barry Lockwood trained mare who has been going quite well at the moment. Strong win two back over the Sunny Coast mile before racing over 2200m at Doomben a fortnight ago and she worked home well without threatening behind Endless Days. Now she’s had the 2200m run under the belt, she should be better off.

Race 5. (13:57) Viva Racing Handicap (1MW) 1400m

Back Me

3 Reach For Heaven (Bet Now: $3.50) on top. Kris Lees trains this gelding, who is two weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at Randwick where he got back from the inside gate and worked home okay without really threatening behind Intuition. Up to 1400m looks ideal for this bloke and he has an excellent third up record.

Danger

Back to 1400m is the little niggle for 8 Looks Like Elvis (Bet Now: $4.40) but I think he’s probably the best horse in the race. Loved his win three weeks back at Doomben over the mile when producing a lovely finale from the back out wide to score. He’ll give them a start once again but no doubt he’ll be strong at the end.

Long Shot

1 Belfyer (Bet Now: $5.00) is a John Shelton trained gelding who is in pretty good form at the moment and is a potential horse for the Kosciuszko. Three week ago ran over the 1350m at Doomben where he tried hard after getting slightly held up, but Sabkhat dominated from the front and gave nothing else a look in. Don’t think that will happen here and his run prior in the Ramornie was a beauty.

Race 6. (14:32) Quantum Trading Handicap (90) 1800m

Back Me

5 Gold Ambition (Bet Now: $3.30) looks a great bet here. Formerly with Bjorn Baker but the horse really seems to be loving life at the Gold Coast under the care of Michael Costa. Loved his win over the Doomben mile a fortnight back where he really finished off strongly from behind the pace to grab a narrow but impressive win. Up to 1800m and on his home track, he looks extremely hard to beat.

Danger

1 Lordag (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Rob Heathcoate trained veteran who is racing quite well at the moment without winning. Thought he had the race won a fortnight back over the Doomben mile but just found Sabkhat too tough on the day. That tough outing should leave him cherry ripe for this 1800m assignment and the depth is nowhere near as strong.

Long Shot

8 American Diva (Bet Now: $13.00) is a John Smerdon trained mare who can be hit and miss at times but when she is on, she’s quite a good horse and can definitely measure up to these. Ran over the Sunny Coast mile a couple of Sundays back where she was back near last and was cuddled for the final furlong where she got clear and exploded late to grab the win. Probably will need to produce something similar to win here, but it wouldn’t surprise if she did.

Race 7. (15:12) Brisbane & Coastal Electrical Handicap (70) 1200m

Back Me

12 Divine Messenger (Bet Now: $4.00) looks one of the better bets on the card. Tony Gollan has this mare going in near career best form at the moment but now just needs to put a win on the board. Was 1200-1110 last time and finished off well but was no match for a low flying mare in Linlithglow. Back up to 1200m, she should take some beating.

Danger

6 Happy Hooves (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Tony Gollan trained gelding who is three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at Doomben where he was given a 12/10 steer by McGillivray and the horse duly saluted in a race which looked to have good depth to it. Good record here and the little break between runs should do him the world of good.

Long Shot

Third up now, expect improvement from 1 Mishani Sleuth (Bet Now: $7.00). He was hard in the market last time in the Dan Baker Sprint on Coffs Cup Day and wasn’t beaten far when fifth to Alot Like Home. Drops a fair bit in grade here, the claim for Gallagher helps and is 2/3 at the Gold Coast, plus parks just off the speed.

Race 8. (15:52) Matty Dunn Racing Handicap 1200m

Back Me

Looks a good race for 14 Aimalac Millie (Bet Now: $12.00), who has done a solid job this time in for the Danielle Campbell team without winning. Ran over 1000m at Randwick a fortnight back and chased hard all the way when fifth to dynamite winner Soothing. Just has to tick the 1200m box but confident she can get the job done.

Danger

13 Mishani El Lobo (Bet Now: $10.00) is a son of Commands resuming for the Les Kelly team. This bloke was formerly trained by Chris Andererson but is having his first run for Kelly, and resuming on the home track, he should be respected. His form from the Summer, including efforts behind Perfect Dare and I’m A Rippa, reads quite well for this. Can sprint well fresh also.

Long Shot

12 Big Tree (Bet Now: $13.00) is the big watch here. Very talented son of Snitzel who hasn’t raced for for nearly two years but he did show once upon a time he was a proper Saturday class horse and perhaps a Stakes class horse in the right race. Been given a steady build up to his resumption, with five trials. Interesting to see what the market does and how he parades.

Race 9. (16:32) Bernie's Produce Plate (Class 2) 1400m

Back Me

Very keen to see what 7 Jake’s Hill (Bet Now: $3.35) does here. Chris Waller import having his second prep in Australia. Had two runs for the Waller camp in the Autumn at Flemington where he really caught the eye in both runs before being tipped out. Been given a couple of quiet trials but has a stack of upside and his UK form reads very well.

Danger

4 Saxton Rock (Bet Now: $4.40) is another interesting runner. Matty Dunn trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced since the early part of the Brisbane Carnival when finishing down the track behind the well performed Perast. Been given a couple of months off and looked sharp in a Ballina trial win a few weeks ago.

Long Shot

21 Idalia’s Dream (Bet Now: $31.00) is a Steve O’Dea trained gelding who is getting hard fit now and finds a very winnable race. He ran over 1400m at the Sunny Coast a couple of Sundays back and finished off quite well I thought when third to Sinister Princess. Now has the 1400m run under the belt, he should be better off here.
