Race 1. (18:15) Melba & Me (Bm70) 1600m
1 No Secret (Bet Now: $SP.00) is putting together a tidy little record for Michael Moroney. Three weeks between runs since winning at this track/distance where she was given a beautiful passage to glide through, take the lead and proved much too good for her rivals. Tricky map and creeping up in the weights but hard to knock the way she is going. Hard to beat.
2 Lady Adelaide (Bet Now: $SP.00) has won at the mile previously and maps to get a soft lead so she appeals. She ran at Sandown last time out over 1400m when attempting to lead throughout and gave a pretty solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when fifth to Wishlor Lass. Should find the front comfortably and with Williams aboard, she is one of the leading contenders.
5 Soaring Eagle (Bet Now: $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but I think she has returned in pretty good order. She resumed in the Wishlor Lass race mentioned above and I actually thought she closed off her race pretty well late in the piece to run a close up third. Good record at The Valley and with the claim for Gaudray, she does get in pretty well. Definite winning hope.
Race 2. (18:45) Steamatic Hcp (C1) 1600m
5 Ivan’s Hero (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top for me. Chris Waller trained gelding that has been pretty good in two runs back from a spell. Should have won fresh at Cranbourne but had zero luck. He then went to Kilmore to find the kill and despite not being 100% happy around the tight track, he had panels on them and drew clear late to win impressively. There does appear to be a bit of depth to this line up but I am confident he can measure up.
4 Diddley Squat (Bet Now: $SP.00) should land on the bunny and prove hard to run down. Dominant all the way win on debut in a Warrnambool maiden before going to Sale where he led and looked home but was nabbed late by Reo, with Froggy perhaps waiting a tad too long to push the button, which is unusual for him. Shinn on, he should find the front and take beating.
6 Skinny Dip (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Rhonda Mangan after winning the maiden last Friday night here. He was given a lovely ride by Mott and moved into the race with purpose on the turn before taking the lead in the straight and was strong to the line in winning. Gets run of the race from the gate and a win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 3. (19:15) Marsh Racing Indus. Assoc-Bm70 1600m
11 Watadeel (Bet Now: $SP.00), if he’s going to contest better races, should be putting a margin on this lot. He resumed in the Manfred and for mine was far from disgraced in defeat in what has turned out to be a hot race won by Jacquinot, a subsequent Group l winner. He has the wide gate to overcome but any hint of normal luck and I think he will be a bit too good for these.
10 Ceasar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is finding it hard to win but he should land on the bunny and take running down. He did that four weeks ago at this track/distance and was hailed as the winner when booting clear but couldn’t quite finish it off, nabbed late by Ima Shelby. If he finds the front and takes some level of control, he’ll take beating, especially if the track is playing up/in.
8 Sing For Peace (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Patrick Payne trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since July 23 when winning over 2400m at Caulfield, winning a moderate 3YO staying contest. Three trials and two jumpouts to get ready, so the grounding is well and truly there to run well fresh, so watch the market and see what it does.
Race 4. (19:45) Ladbrokes 55 Second Chall-Bm78 955m
5 Florescent Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) is better suited over further but they are going to go crazy fast here so if she can get luck from the inside gate, I think she will only run well. She resumes for Team Yargi, having not raced since July 16 at Flemington down the straight when far from disgraced behind Nicolini Vito. Jumpout work has been encouraging and she will be strong late when some of these will get the staggers.
2 Unflinching (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat against this lot. Team Freedman trained four year old that has been excellent this time in. Put together a couple of strong seconds to start the prep before going to The Valley a few weeks ago where he was on speed throughout and was there to be beaten but he found under pressure and was much too good for them. He’s a short course specialist so he is suited here.
1 Starry Legend (Bet Now: $SP.00) should lead this field up and he’ll give a sight I am sure. Last run came on Australia Day in the Adams when leading and giving a pretty solid kick but had no answers for the finale produced by Star Patrol. You’d like to think that form reads well for this and from the gate, he should hold the lead and take beating.
Race 5. (20:15) The Orbit Logistic Heat 3-Bm70 2040m
Fitter and up to 2040m are two big ticks for 4 Shock ‘Em Ova (Bet Now: $SP.00). Market said he’d need the run when resuming over the mile four weeks ago here and he was good late from the back without threatening behind Ima Shelby. He should love the rise in trip and you’d think with a more positive steer, he has the right form and upside to take beating.
2 Marcolt (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing in a purple patch for Patrick Payne. Let down with purpose from the back to win two back at Sandown before going to this track/distance where he was given a peach and was hailed as the winner but couldn’t quite finish it off, nabbed on the peg by Fighting Arrow. Only has to be holding his form to be around the mark.
8 Kailash (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. He ran at the midweeks at Geelong last time when sitting off a very moderate speed and was solid to the line in the sit/sprint behidn Huguenot, who led throughout and dominated from the front. Like him up in trip and being third up from a spell, he should just about be at peak fitness.
Race 6. (20:45) The Orbit Logistic Heat 4-Bm64 2500m
Each way, I don’t think you can go wrong backing 5 Young Hostess (Bet Now: $SP.00). Nine year old mare that still looks to maintain a healthy zest for racing. She ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and despite doing a bit wrong, she was good in defeat from off the speed when third to Vadaboy. Gets a big jockey upgrade and should get into a lovely spot from the gate. Good each way gamble.
4 Vadaboy (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take beating. He won the race mentioned above with sustained speed coming to the fore, leading throughout and giving them a spanking in a dominant display. Tricky draw but should slide forward, likely lead the field up and he only has to run up to the last start to prove hard to beat once again.
8 Zegalo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard fit and will see out the 2500m strongly I am sure. Down the track two back in a Highway behind Eastern Glow before going to 2100m at Gosford a few days later and ran a much improved race in defeat behind Dissenter to finish second. That run should toughen him right up for this and with a positive ride, he’s in with a shout.
Race 7. (21:15) Torney Night Cup 2500m
The Maher/Eustace camp wouldn’t persist with 1 Persan (Bet Now: $SP.00) if he wasn’t going any good. Most thought he was a good thing in the Bagot on New Years Day off the back of a dominant JRA Trophy win but he copped heat near the speed and folded late, finishing down the track behind San Huberto. Can only assume he’s come through the run fine and at his best, he beats this lot.
9 Eaton (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a leading chance if he runs up to last start. Just not sure what to make of the win given he he was the rank outsider in a 100 race, but he won by five lengths and could have easily won by further. He does have a real liking for The Valley and they went stupid in front, so the race was set up for him. Just not sure if he can repeat the dose, but he has to be respected.
10 True Marvel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is 2/2 at the track and is a stayer who will be strong at the end. He is five weeks between runs since racing over 3000m at Cranbourne where he lumped the 62kg impost and battled on really well in defeat when second to stablemate Monreal. Thornton gets on really well with this horse and he is back on, so don’t dismiss him.
Race 8. (21:45) The Ranvet Valley Summer-Bm64 1200m
12 Pink Cashmere (Bet Now: $SP.00) could be looking for the paddock but at the price, I have to have something on. She ran down the straight on Rapid Racing Day at Flemington and for mine, the track was too firm for her behind Gold Revolver. Hopefully there is cushion in this track for her because I do think she is talented and at double figures, she is worth an each way ticket.
11 Pretty Tavi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Tavistock for Team Freedman that resumes. She had a two run prep in the Spring to start her career, bolting up on debut at Mornington before struggling on heavy ground in the Crockett on Cox Plate Day and was spelled soon after. Just one soft jumpout to get ready but first up in town with J Kah on signals some level of intent.
8 True Nobility (Bet Now: $SP.00) can be a big improver provided the track is on the firmer side. He found a firm deck and won well two back at Hamilton before going here where the track was too wet and he struggled in the conditions behind Holymanz. He’s a dry track horse and and Yendall sticks, so while I doubt he wins, he can certainly fill a first four spot.
