17/11/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Canterbury

4 Mogwai (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is short enough but he does look to have a bit on these. He has placed in both runs back, the latest being over 1400m on the Kenso where he had every chance behind the speed and battled away well enough but was held late by Until Valhalla. Hard fit, gets gate one, J Mac to steer…if the inside gate is used to advantage, he wins.

1 Thermodynamic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Chris Waller. He resumed a few weeks ago over 1300m on the Kenso where he was a bit one paced when asked for the effort but stayed on and was pretty solid in his return behind Keenan. He’ll love the rise to 1550m, Nash takes over and with a more positive ride, he’s dangerous.

5 Northern Eyes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can be an improver at odds. He resumed in the Until Valhalla race mentioned above where he did a bit wrong but was solid to the line late in the piece without threatening when fourth. Think he can be ridden with more intent here and that sort of ride is suited to this track, especially when the lights are on.

3 Determination (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a big price here. Churchill gelding for Chris Waller that is on debut. He’s had two trials this time in to get ready for start one and I thought his recent trial at Rosehill, he closed off with real purpose late in the piece when third, and albeit he was beaten five lengths, he closed off very nicely. He has a gate to use to settle close and I think he will be strong at the end.

1 Jagjit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality three year old I think that resumes for GaiBott. He is first up, having not raced since June 12 at Warwick Farm when on speed and fought on really well in defeat behind Griff, who of course went on to win the Caulfield Guineas, so the form has been super, he’s been gelded and his trial work to get ready has been more than encouraging.

7 Il Tevere (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a colt I have time for and will win a race this time in. Whether it’s here, not sure, but he will be strong at the end. He had two runs to start the career in the Autumn and while each time he was held, he did make up ground late on each occasion. Liked the way he has trialled and can sneak a first four spot.

4 Nefertari (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a filly that I think has an engine under the hood. Blake Ryan trains this filly, that debuted at Gosford when wide throughout and copped nasty checks in the straight but balanced up and was pretty good in the run to the line. Maps to get a much better run in transit and rising to 1100m, jockey upgrade, she’s an each way speck for me.

9 Miss Emma (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat for Chris Waller. She resumed at the midweeks on the Kenso when back off the speed and although she took a while to wind into her work, she kept finding the line in a strong return when second to Runwiththetide. Fitter, maps to settle much closer in the run and still be effective late.

8 Roman Miss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Gary Portelli trained filly that ran over 1200m at Canberra when off the speed throughout and presented to win but just couldn’t quite get there when third to Up To Mischief. Back to 1100m I like, jockey upgrade…doubt she wins but can run top four.

1 Money From The Sky (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the best horse in the race, by a mile, and I think now with Sara Ryan, he looks to be ready to rock and roll. He resumes after formerly being with Mark Newnham and he showed talent, but was very wayward and had a few loose screws upstairs. His trial work has been pretty good to my eye and first up at 1550m tells me there is intent.

2 Willinga Freefall (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Kris Lees. He last ran on the midweeks on the Kenso where he was held up in the straight when full of running. He eventually got clear and found the line nicely behind Furious. Like him up in trip and with clear air from the outset, he’s dangerous.

5 Bluff N Bluster (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will love the drop back in grade/depth after contesting the Goulburn Cup last time out where he found the class of race a bit rich but for the most part, he was far from disgraced in defeat behind a good horse, Grebeni. Much better suited at this level, maps ideally and gets Nash. Very likeable.

11 Counter (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth a small speck each way. Chris Waller trains this former UK stayer, who was terrible at Kembla three weeks ago but he pulled his head off in the run and just couldn’t pick his feet up on the heavy track. The runs prior suggested a win was near and although he is a maiden in a 64, this is a very thin 64 and I think he’s good enough to measure up.

4 Condrieu (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing in pretty good form for John O’Shea and is one of the key threats. She was 2200m back to 1800m last time out on the Kenso and tried her guts out but couldn’t quite get there and had to settle for a close up second to Matusalem. Back up in trip I do like, Winkers on to sharpen her up and finds a very winnable race.

8 Brynner (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gets the Blinkers on and I reckon that will sharpen him up. He ran over 1900m at Newcastle two weeks back where he got back in the run and did make up solid headway late without threatening behind The Hungarian. Has a gate to settle much closer and if the Blinkers have the desired effective, he’s dangerous.

5 Port Albert (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. Nick Ryan trained gelding that landed on the bunny at The Valley last time under Shinn and once he found the front, it was race over and he was miles too good. Tim Clark on, he’ll get this horse out, hopefully in front, and prove hard to run down because that last start was excellent.

2 Stromboli (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Team Hawkes. Beaten odds on pop two back at the midweeks on the Kenso before going to Randwick where he got into a decent spot just off the speed and presented to win but couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a second to Dashing Legend. Only has to hold his form to be around the mark IMO.

10 Chief Conductor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves another look for Sara Ryan. I think you have to be very forgiving of the run a few weeks ago in the Midway given he did too much work in the run after missing the start, so forgive and forget behind Eye Pea Oh. First up run was a beauty and with a clean jump, he’ll land on the bunny and prove hard to get past.

5 Louisville (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is better suited over further but he has a bit of quality on his side and I’ll bank on that getting him home first up. He resumes for Chris Waller, having not raced since July 15 at Randwick when too far back but was good late in the piece behind Special Envoy. Just one soft trial to get ready but if they go silly in front, I think he’ll finish over the top.

7 Lancaster Bomber (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one to be entertained for wider multiples. He comes through the Midway from a few weeks back behind Eye Pea Oh when on speed throughout and tried his guts out to get there but just got a stitch the final 100m when close up behind the Freedman horse. I think with a more patient steer, I think he’ll be far more effective.

1 Classy Jaybee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the class of the field and that will carry him a long way. He ran at The Valley on Cox Plate Day in a 1000m race when running last in the field of six but for the most part, he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Ashford Street. Back to a moderate 72, small, he’ll be within range to launch over the top.

7 Welcome Gypsy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the each way speck for me in the get out. John Thompson trained mare that has had two runs back from a spell and while on paper, she’s been poor, but each run has had an excuse. Slow to recover first up and then last start, was 1/5 lame. Maps to get a suck run in transit and with her best, she is certainly good enough to win a race like this.

3 Ningaloo Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it. That win came on Cup Day at Randwick where she was ridden with confidence by Bourke and the ride won the race, proving too good for Power Of The Brave in a blanket finish. The depth here is pretty much on the thin side and with a similar ride to last time, she’s dangerous.

8 There There (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing in a purple patch for Maher/Eustace and is in with a shout here for sure with the race depleted by scratchings. She has won two on the bounce, winning the maiden at Newcastle two back before defying a notable betting drift to win at Gosford last time out. If she finds the front and gets control, she’ll take running down.
