The Grafton Carnival kicks into gear this Wednesday, headlined by the Ramornie Handicap (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

14 Vivika (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is short but there is a reason for that. She looks to have lengths on these. She debuted at Doomben on Feb 22 when a closing second to Sunrays, who sits behind Cool Archie as the best juvenile in QLD, so that form is A1 for this. Trial work has been electric, claim…points to her.

2 Chilled With Ice (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Frosted that resumes for Matty Dunn. He is first up, having not raced since Feb 2 at Murwillumbah when near the speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late behind Without Parallel. Given a good break and has trialled well.

1 Barron (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had 32 starts to break the maiden tag but he is one for exotics. He ran over 1100m at Murwillumbah last time when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort in defeat when third to Dernier Len. Not sure he wins but runs top four.

9 Gold Puma (Bet Now:  $SP.00) each way for me. She ran over this track/distance last time when just off the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish the race off behind Straight Through. She maps to stalk the speed and get last look. Happy to speck her at odds.

5 Pride Of Savabella (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but she is nearing a breakthrough. Liam Birchley trained gelding that ran in a 1600m maiden during the Rockhampton Carnival when off speed and worked home with purpose when third to Shining Proisir. Luck from the gate, he’s dangerous.

10 Pharaline (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in three runs this prep and is in the mix. First run for Ruby Chatterton came over 1800m at the Sunny Coast on May 25 when near the speed and battled away really well in defeat behind Pure Thoughts. Maps well and should be strong at the end.

Keen to butter up with 2 Bollinger Miss (Bet Now:  $SP.00). I liked her at odds in the Winx Guineas but nothing really went right for her, she got too far back in the run and was never really a factor. The depth here is not as deep, she maps to settle closer and be effective late.

9 Silent Call (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have an engine under the hood for Matty Dunn. He comes here off the back of a maiden win at Murwillumbah where he was Winx like odds and won like the great mare. This isn’t a deep edition of this race and he has upside. Leading contender.

8 Ronny Bee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout. Wayne Brown trained gelding that won the Guineas Prelude here, getting a sweet sit in transit before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late to score. Good test here, but confident he measures up.

6 Khor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) would eat these for breakfast if he produced anywhere near his best. He has been freshened up since May 23 at the Gold Coast when back and was okay late but never really a winning threat behind Akrotiri. Tick over trial was strong and commands respect.

7 Behtar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 2200m after racing over 2400m on the Kenso at Randwick. It was an odd run, being stop start, ridden forward and gave a mini sight but felt the pinch late when down the track behind Tympanist. Not sure I could back him to win but is a must for multiples.

1 Call Me Artie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 2200m after racing over 2000m at Taree last time where he got back to near last in the run and made up okay ground without threatening behind Charmed Destiny. This stable love to target this Carnvial and off last run, he’s in with a shout.

1 Wonderland Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. Matty Dunn trained mare that ran over 1550m at Murwillumbah last start when giving them a start and a beating, letting down with purpose late to win and win well. Gets in well after the claim and strikes a winnable race.

2 Monarch Express (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the key prospects. Jordan Lee trained gelding that was hard in the market in the Guineas Prelude last start and tired hard but just couldn’t quite get there behind Ronny Bee. Big rider upgrade, kind map, rates highly.

11 Monte Tiana (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a sneaky chance at odds after racing over 1400m at Coffs Harbour last time out where she was one of the better runs of the meeting given she was back near last and on a day where up/in was dynamite, she closed off really well. If within range, she has the finale to threaten.

3 Beer Baron (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an each way gamble here. He comes through the Guineas Prelude where he kept finding the line over 1400m but was never really a winning threat. I like him back to a fast run 1100m and he gets in quite well after the claim.

1 Extreme Diva (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with John Charlton, she now finds herself with Matty Dunn. Her last run resulted in a win over 1100m at Gosford, landing on speed and knuckled down with purpose late to score. Given a good break and a recent trial was strong.

6 Singing Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 1100m after racing over 1000m at Taree last time out where she got back off speed and chased but was never really a threat when third to Zoom Outcome. She’ll spot them a start but be strong at the end.

I reckon 13 Tribeca Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is here to play for Matty Dunn to be on the front shop window now that Kosciuszko tickets are available. Was on him in the CC Final and I just reckon 1400m sees him right out. Like him at 1200m fresh, and with two strong trials under the belt, I say he’s here to play.

5 Barber (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the key threats. Richard Litt trained gelding that won the Takeover Target three back before a solid effort in the Bob Charley. He then went to the Healy at Eagle Farm and was okay late without threatening behind Metalart. Maps perfect and this isn’t a deep race.

14 Lady Extreme (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Blake Ryan and has earned a crack at this sort of race. She is 2/2 this time in, both at Rosehill. She resumed with a gutsy win in a Midway before going to 78 grade and knuckled down with purpose late to score. Good test here, but hard to knock how she’s returned.

2 Oakfield Peewee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) each way for me in the get out. Damien Lane trained gelding that looks to have returned in pretty good order. He ran over 1500m at Port Macquarie last time and was good late from off the speed when third to Supreme Command. Maps ideally and 1600m should be fine.

6 Think Romance (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver for Team Curtis. She resumed over 1500m at Hawkesbury when on speed and seemingly had her chance but just felt the pinch late in the piece behind Heaven Bound. Good upside, good racing style, she’s around the mark.

7 Shine Like It Does (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a query at 1600m but has a good racing style and is a last start winner, the win coming over 1425m at Moruya when leading throughout and she gave nothing else a look in. Track can play to those on speed, so with that in mind, she appeals.

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 3 Beer Baron
