Race 1. (11:55) Tab We're On Hcp 1400m
9 Autumn Charm (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a nice filly on the up for Nick Ryan. She steps up to 1400m after racing over 1200m at Ballarat last time, closing with real purpose from off speed when second to Cavill Avenue, an impressive winner. Like her up in trip and strikes a winnable race.
12 Bella Blaze (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran third to Cavill Avenue at Ballarat. She debuted over the 1200m and was an eye catcher the way she finished her race off. Bred to eat up 1400m and beyond, good upside, she’s right in the mix.
11 Vertigo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Trapeze Artist that debuts for Tema Yargi. Her jumpout work hasn’t been too bad and what I like is that her past two have been over 1000m. Good grounding and has a soft draw. One for exotics.
Race 2. (12:30) Trevor Clarke Hcp 2000m
2 Miewa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since contesting the Mornington Guineas. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening behind Pavlich, he kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat. Tick over jumpout was good and if within range, he can take this out.
4 Brave Danza (Bet Now: $SP.00) hit the line strongly at Caulfield last time out and the extra step up in distance here should suit. Needs some luck from the barrier but if he can get a decent trail in the race he will be the one they need to hold out late.
15 Shotaro (Bet Now: $SP.00) got the maiden kill out of the way at Kilmore last start over this trip when on speed throughout and was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Harder here but think he can measure up.
Race 3. (13:05) Sir Eugene Gorman (Bm78) 1400m
2 Lovelycut (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since finishing second at this track/distance, driving hard late from off speed but had to settle for a second to Capper Thirtynine. Like her back to Mares grade and strikes a winnable race.
8 Coco Jen (Bet Now: $SP.00) returned from an extended period off last time out and was okay without being good. She will take a lot of improvement from that run and I think if she can return to near her best she will be right in the finish.
16 Claymore Mine (Bet Now: $SP.00) was thrown in the deep end two weeks back in the Bendigo Bracelet and while held, I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Miss Playlounge. Back to 78 grade, she’ll take beating if she repeats last start.
Race 4. (13:40) K. A. Morrison Hcp 1400m
5 Sulek (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be back on track for Dom Sutton. Can easily make a case to say he wins the Bendigo Guineas if he didn’t bomb the start but he got back to near last in the run and rocketed to the line late in the piece. If he jumps clean and gets room to move, he’s quite dangerous.
7 Concord Connie (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the next big thing in Australian racing according to some…just cool the jets. She’s a talent, but we’ve seen this story before recently, namely with She’s An Artist, who lit up the track one day and hasn’t gone on with it. This girl is a bit better than She’s An Artist I find and looks to have found a winnable race. She can win…but for me, she’s way too short.
12 Hulkster (Bet Now: $SP.00) knuckled down with purpose to break the maiden tag first up at Pakenham, knuckling down strongly from off speed to wear down Oyster Lane. Not sure that is a glowing endorsement but the win was there and down in the weights, is a sleeper.
Race 5. (14:15) Sharp Eit Sir Henry Bolte Hcp 1200m
16 Marsept (Bet Now: $SP.00) was really good in defeat in town two back before going to Geelong where she looked an absolute moral and duly saluted, leading throughout and won as if it was a barrier trial. Keen to see how she goes because I do think she is a quality type that can well and truly measure up.
9 Yes Yoshi (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1200m after racing over 1100m at Bendigo. He got back to near last in the run and didn’t really get the clearest of paths in the straight behind Navy Pilot. Like the rise to 1200m and with room to move, he’s dangerous.
7 Purple Streak (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a nice horse for the Corstens/Larkin camp. Two wins on the board with a down the track effort at Caulfield in between, with that run having genuine excuses. Latest win saw him prove quite dominant at Pakenham, keen to see how he goes.
Race 6. (14:50) L.v. Lachal (Bm100) 1600m
4 Wonder Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat for Jerome Hunter. Just missed in the Golden Mile at Bendigo, driving hard late from off speed when a narrow second to Von Vauke. Like him onto the bigger track and a longer straight to wind into his work. Takes beating.
1 Zahrann (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the more interesting runners on the card. High class animal from overseas that is making his Australian debut off the back of encouraging jumpout work. Has been nominated/accepted/scratched a few times, so they are wanting an ideal race to kick him off, and the fact he is here, tells me there is intent.
3 Oh Too Good (Bet Now: $SP.00), I think, is back on track. Game effort in the Bendigo Bracelet I thought after sitting wide no cover. She kept chasing and finding the line in defeat when second to Miss Playlounge. If she holds her form, she’ll be around the mark.
Race 7. (15:30) Andrew Ramsden 2800m
7 Zarir… (Bet Now: $SP.00) the more I look at the Mornington Cup replay, the more I think he should have won, and comfortably. Just got badly held up at the wrong stage before eventually getting clear and savaging the line. He’s back on track and at this level, he’ll take beating.
10 Zakouna (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a bit on the plain side three weeks ago here but I think the track was on the firm side for him and he was a fair way out of his ground. He did make up headway but was never really threatening. Off the efforts prior, he’s well and truly up to a race like this.
9 The Western Front (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since a win over 2500m here, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive performance. He is a horse in a purple patch and has earned a crack in a race like this.
Race 8. (16:10) Straight Six 1200m
12 Stoli Boli (Bet Now: $SP.00) has gone from being a non winner to a line finder, his latest win being two weeks ago over 1100m at Bendigo, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive performance. He’s earned a crack at Stakes grade but to be fair, this isn’t a deep contest.
13 Immortal Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) loves the straight course and appeals after a gutsy effort in the Wangoom where she didn’t stop chasing in defeat behind Oliveanotherday. Back to where she races best, she’ll take beating I dare say.
8 Losesomewinmore (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a proven straight track performer that is dangerous. Total forgive I thought in the John Hawkes, getting back off speed and failed to come on. Better suited here, he can run a much improved race at odds.
Race 9. (16:43) Murray Cox (Bm84) 1800m
7 Skipper’s Canyon (Bet Now: $SP.00) takes a power of beating. I thought Will Gordon rode him quite negatively at Flemington a few weeks ago, riding for luck between runners instead of angling wider for clear air. He worked home very strongly late. Hard fit, room to move, I’m quite keen on his prospects.
8 Jackknife (Bet Now: $SP.00) is getting towards last chance territory for Ciaron Maher. He hasn’t set the world on fire since coming from overseas, his latest run behind Seafall at Bendigo being a flop, but he’s a nice horse based on his overseas form, so not dismissing…yet.
5 Opening Address (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be suited up to 1800m after racing over the mile at Bendigo two weeks back when on speed and he fought hard in the straight but had to settle for a second to Seafall. Has upside, good racing style, he can win for sure.
