The Showdown 🏆: View the Field and Odds for The Showdown
Race 1. (12:15) Dce Hcp 2400m
1 Bankers Choice (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a slight query at 2400m but he has the runs on the board to say he has to be respected given he ran second to Deny Knowledge three weeks ago over 2000m, tracking her throughout and tried hard but couldn’t get past the class mare. He has to be respected against these.
3 Le Don De Vie (Bet Now: $SP.00) is certainly capable with his best. He hasn’t raced since Jan 1 at Sandown over 2400m when attempting to lead throughout and giving a solid kick from the front but had no turn of foot late. Jumps trial since was solid and this isn’t a deep race.
6 Speycaster (Bet Now: $SP.00) just looks a big price here. Chris Waller trained gelding that ran over 2500m at The Valley last time in the Torney Cup. He got back in the run before trying to make a sustained run and tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Back in trip, with a patient steer, I like and he gets the Blinkers back on.
Race 2. (12:45) Vobis Gold Distaff 1400m
1 Regal Vow (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a ripping mare for Charlotte Littlefield that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since Boxing Day when a strong winner of the Lord Stakes here on the Heath track here. Better suited over a touch further but has jumped out well and 1400m fresh tells me she’s fit.
2 Brazen Lady (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Dom Sutton, having not raced since Jan 18 over 1400m at Flemington when off speed and kept finding the line in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Is It Me. Moved well in a recent jumpout at Flemington behind Arkansaw Kid and like her back to Mares grade.
3 Beour Bay (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Feb 15 in the Triscay at Randwick when outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Inhibitions. Back to Melbourne and up in trip, she can run an improved race.
Race 3. (13:20) The Donovan + Co Mystic Journey 1100m
2 Miss Aria (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when off a moderate speed and tried hard but couldn’t reel in Samangu, who had it too good near the front and was impressive. More genuine tempo this time around, hard fit, she appeals.
5 Samangu (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Grahame Begg and is hard to beat off the back of a track/distance win three weeks ago when getting the beaut run in transit and finished best to score. Not sure she’ll get it as good this time around, but hard to knock her and the stable.
10 Herbert Park (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one to be entertained for exotics. She resumed behind Samangu three weeks back here where she paraded like she would need the run and that’s how it panned out behind the Grahame Begg mare, who had a good run near the speed and was strong. Better for the run, she’s a first four threat.
Race 4. (13:55) Barastoc (Bm74) 1200m
2 Tatsumaki (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a Stakes class horse for mine. He was on a path to being a Group l horse according to UK connections when racing over there as a juvenile but was purchased for Hong Kong. He has clearly had his issues given he was there for a couple of years and didn’t race. Now with Team Hayes here, he has had three jumpouts and each time, he has looked like a rocket. If he’s ready, which I say he is, then good luck beating him.
All you can do is win and that is what 11 Dictionary (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done in two career outings. Nick Ryan trained galloper that is 2/2, the latest seeing him get better as the race went on to win and win well. The form out of that has been rank but he does look promising.
7 Namesake (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it for Ciaron Maher. Big win I thought at Pakenham last time given he was wide no cover throughout and was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and win. Handy draw to use, he’s in the mix.
Race 5. (14:30) Vobis Platinum Guineas 1600m
Best horse in the race IMO is 8 Benagil (Bet Now: $SP.00) so I want to give her another chance. I just think she hated being in restricted room in the Armanasco and pretty much took no part. Fitter and up in trip for her, back a fair way in grade/depth…bit surprised she is the price she is.
6 Bit Of Shoosh (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes straight to town for Team Hayes off the back of a debut win at Kyneton over 1454m. He didn’t beat a great deal but the arrogance of the win was something else, winning by a space and did it quite comfortably. Keen to see how he goes against these.
9 Gellhorn (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a filly that has talent. She broke the maiden tag on the Heath track last time, leading throughout and she gave nothing else a look in to win and win well. Good test here against nice fillies but she has a good racing style and has a good fitness base under the belt.
Race 6. (15:05) Peter Young Stakes 1800m
6 Zardozi (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for James Cummings. Race shape wasn’t to her liking when resuming in the Apollo before going to the Blamey at Flemington where she was a real eye catcher from the back behind Marble Arch. Like her up to 1800m and she can settle much closer in the run.
5 Pride Of Jenni… (Bet Now: $SP.00) the most fascinating runner across Australia for the weekend. Is she ready to play or is she cast? First up off a bleed is usually a great recipe for success from a betting perspective and her recent jumpout was very good. I think she is just an obvious yard and market watch.
1 Bois D’Argent (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Neasham/Archibald trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Turnbull when thrown in the deep end and couldn’t get involved when down the track behind Via Sistina. He does go very well on the fresh side and his jumpout work has been more than encouraging.
Race 7. (15:40) Vobis Gold Dash 1200m
3 She’s Got Pizzazz (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate getting to 1200m after resuming in the Gold Comet at Flemington. She just found the 1000m a tad short but she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat I thought. Better set up here, she takes beating.
1 Band Of Brothers (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks suited back to his own age for Dom Sutton. He ran two weeks ago in the Gold Comet at Flemington when taking on the older horses, back to 1000m, and was good late without threatening behind Midwest. Back up in trip, own age, he appeals.
2 Stormbourg (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1200m at Pakenham when just off the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when third to Supernima. He placed in The Showdown last year and looks to be on track to run well in the 3YO contest.
Race 8. (16:15) Vobis Platinum Showdown 1200m
I like the look of 13 Killiana (Bet Now: $SP.00). Lands on speed, professional, does everything right, and she smashed the clock on debut at Bendigo despite being not fully extended, leading throughout under Zahra, who sticks here. 1200m is the query with her, but she looks a beauty.
5 McGaw (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a very nice horse for Team Browne. Not sure he beat much on debut at Pakenham but the arrogance of the win and the way he put them away, gee he was impressive. Looks a really good prospect and his jumpout last week at Pakenham indicates he’s ready to go.
9 Miss Celine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since contesting the Blue Diamond where she got off the speed and was in a reasonable spot, looming to win but couldn’t quite see it through. Better suited at this level and off prior efforts, she can take this out.
Race 9. (16:55) Vobis Gold Sprint 1200m
10 Bossy Nic (Bet Now: $SP.00) should take beating back up to 1200m. She was 1200m back to 1000m two weeks ago at Flemington in the Gold Comet when run off her legs early but she picked up and was pretty good late in the piece behind Midwest. Like her back up in trip, she rates highly.
3 Nicolini Vito (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the class of the field and class will carry him a long way. He resumes for Team Hayes, having not raced since Champions Day when far from disgraced down the straight behind Rey Magnerio but did look a tired horse. Jumpout work has been strong and does go very well fresh.
5 Regal Azmon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since April 27 when far from disgraced here in the Easter Cup behind Berkeley Square. His jumpout work has been pretty good to the eye so watch betting and see what it does.
Race 10. (17:35) Country Mile Series Final (Bm80) 1600m
2 Mixxit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty, a winner…it’s just hard to get away from him. He has won four on the bounce, the latest win being first up when resuming over 1400m at Bendigo and finished best to win and win well. He’s a line finder, he’s got improvement to come and up to 1600m, he’s the one to beat.
1 Call Him Iggy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing very well for Matty Smerdon and has to be respected. He comes here off the back of a win at Wangaratta over 1590m where he got into a good spot off the speed before angling wider and finishing best to win and win well. Think he can measure up.
7 Electric Belle (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and she can go on with it. That win came last Thursday night at Pakenham where she got into a nice spot near the speed and tried her guts out, getting the job done in a close finish. Has to be given respect, especially off a win.
