Kembla Grange Classic 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Kembla Grange Classic
Race 1. (13:05) Healthier Illawarra Men Mdn Plate 1400m
1 Hellbetta (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Hellbent for Sam Kavanagh that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Sep 28 at Wyong when placing over the mile, but was beaten nearly ten lengths. Given a good break and with a couple of solid trials under the belt, he rates as one of the leading contenders.
3 King Carlos (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks an improver up in trip for Ed O’Rourke. This colt debuted over 1200m at Newcastle where he was a bit raw and new to the caper but for the most part, he was solid in defeat when fifth to Nightcapped. The depth here isn’t as deep and with natural improvement, up in trip, he appeals.
4 Sir Sublime (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider exotics. Theresa Bateup trained son of Starcraft that resumed over 1200m at Moruya where he got off the speed and tried hard but he just lacked the change up speed to win when fourth to Wal’s Angels. Trained on the track and with good upside to come, he’ll be around the mark.
Race 2. (13:40) South Break Media Mdn Hcp 1500m
1 Brazil (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but not really a maiden I want to get involved in. Joe Pride trained son of Pierro that has had two career outings. Needed the run on debut at Canterbury before going to Newcastle where he had a decent enough run in transit behind the speed before angling clear and tried hard when third to Pipstrelle. Tricky gate, but good upside and like him up to 1500m.
7 Chentileeno (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the key threats. Team Price trained gelding that comes back to 1500m after racing over the mile here last time out. He had a suck run in transit behind the speed before angling clear and tried hard, just failing to get there. Tricky gate this time around bit he’s one that is in form.
6 Key Legend (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver for Les Bridge. He did work early to find the front here last time but seemed to be going well. That said, when Gibbons asked for an effort, he went backwards and dropped out badly. Blinkers on to sharpen him and Amy McLucas is very good on front runners.
Race 3. (14:15) Kembla Grange Stayers Cup (Bm68) 2400m
1 Notabadbuy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one I have as top seed but it’s not a betting race. GaiBott trained stayer that won the Canberra Cup Prelude two back before racing last Wednesday at Warwick Farm and leading, but just couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Etna Rosso. Up in trip looks fine, he should lead and prove hard to get past.
2 Insider Trader (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form for Greg Hickman and he can certainly go on with it. He won at Newcastle last Friday, getting the sweet sit in transit behind the speed before angling clear and knuckled down strongly to get the win, just. Up to 2400m should be fine and this isn’t a deep race.
4 Tell The Future (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the race won last Friday at Newcastle mentioned above, won by Insider Trader. He led and tried hard but I am not sure leading is his caper so be forgiving of the down the track effort. I think with a bunny to chase, he’ll be far more effective.
Race 4. (14:50) St George Illawarra Dragons Mdn Plate 1200m
10 Kirragirl (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks hard to beat for Chris Waller. This filly has been strong in two career outings, the latest at Rosehil when just off the speed and kept finding the line in a good effort when second to Pajanti. Hard fit now, depth isn’t as deep and maps ideally. Clearly one of the leading contenders.
8 Helldancer (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a slight query at 1200m but has a kind map in her corner to run an improved race. She ran over 1000m here last time out where she got into a reasonable spot just off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when second to Princess Vittoria. Not sure she wins, but a must for exotics.
11 O’So Demanding (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect. Stablemate of Helldancer that resumed in a Nowra maiden where she found a bog track and tried hard but wasn’t getting past Siovy Dane, an impressive winner in the conditions. Good upside to come and with King to steer, she’s in the mix.
Race 5. (15:25) Aj 'Bert' Lillye Memorial (Bm94) 1200m
6 Garza Blanca (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top. Ciaron Maher trained four year old that resumes, having not raced since Derby Day when down the track at Flemington behind Spacewalk in a blanket finish. Three trials under the belt for his return and Blinkers first time signals intent. Class edge, I think he gets home despite a tricky gate.
3 Key Largo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hit and miss but capable. He ran behind Red Card three weeks back at Rosehill where he got back off the speed and did make up minor headway but was never really threatening behind the Godolphin mare. His best sees him go close against these, so don’t pen him.
5 Russian Conquest (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Snowden trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since the Hot Danish in the Spring at Rosehill when down the track behind Roots but 1400m and that class of race was a bit much for her. 1200m at this level, on a dry deck, I like, and has trialled well leading in.
Race 6. (16:00) Canadian Club (Bm64) 1400m
4 Movader (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the winner. Ciaron Maher trained mare that ran under the lights at Canterbury last time out when dragged back from the wide gate and while she made up some headway, she was never a threat behind Byron Belle. Maps to get a much better run in transit and the depth here isn’t as deep.
10 Napoleon Solo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a definite winning threat. Dry track specialist who has been solid in three runs back from a spell, the latest being over 1400m at Moruya when near the speed and tried his guts out but found one better in Victory At Omaha. Gets in really well after the claim and maps to do no work in the run.
15 Remus (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Vancouver for Jarrod Austin that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Sep 23 at Kembla when ridden with intent and it didn’t work as he felt the pinch late to finish down the track behind Tags. Couple of trials under the belt, map is tricky but can pull out a run fresh. Watch the market.
Race 7. (16:40) Kembla Grange Classic 1600m
2 Tutta La Vita (Bet Now: $SP.00) picks herself I feel despite the gate. Chris Waller loves these 3YO Fillies races and for mine, she is the best 3YO filly for the camp. She resumed two weeks ago in the Surround and she was one of the runs of the race, closing off with real purpose late in the piece behind Tropical Squall. Fitter and up in trip, natural improvement, really keen on her prospects.
3 Harlow Mist (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a filly I want to give another chance to. John Sargent trains this girl, who resumed a few weeks ago in the Angus Armanasco. I am not sure she was 100% happy around Caulfield but she stuck on and was quite good in defeat I thought behind Sassy Boom. I think up to 1600m and getting to the bigger track, with good upside to come, she rates highly for me here.
Gee I wanted 16 Good Banter (Bet Now: $SP.00) to draw a barrier. I think she has an engine under the hood. She has really caught the eye in two runs back from a spell, the latest at Rosehill behind Mare Of Mt Buller when back and closing off with real purpose late in the piece. If she is able to get a drag into the race, she’ll be strong at the end and can take this out.
Race 8. (17:20) Avcon Projects Midway (Bm64) 1600m
7 This Is The Moment (Bet Now: $SP.00) will do me in the get out for Mitch Beer. This gelding ran over this track/distance last time out when just off the speed and he tried his guts out but he just had no answers for the finale of Private Legacy. He has that 1600m run under the belt now, which should hold him in good stead here.
3 Extreme Freedom (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the key chances. Team Price trained gelding that ran over this track/distance just under two weeks ago when getting a decent enough run in transit and was there to win but just didn’t quite have the finale when fourth to Allhallowtide. More kind map this time around and is a key threat.
2 Victory At Omaha (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Theresa Bateup, having not raced since Valentines Day on the Kenso when on speed and just felt the pinch late in the piece behind Cuban Granchico. Back to this level suits and after the claim, i think he’s right in with a shout.
