Night racing continues at Canterbury this Friday. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (18:00) The Agency Real Estate Mdn Hcp 1250m
2 Miss Emma (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a coming maiden winner but backing her to win a maiden is another matter. She looked all over the winner on the Kenso last time but didn’t go on with it the last 200m and was outgunned by Very Sewreel. She was 1100m to 1300m and was keen in the run so now she has that run under the belt, 1250m here should be fine. She can win, clearly, but me personally, I’d rather watch her do it than back her.
3 Assemble (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Zoustar for Chris Waller that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since August 2 at Sale when placing over 1110m behind a pretty nice type in Written Bligh. Couple of solid trials under the belt to get ready for the return and she strikes a winnable maiden so watch the market.
5 Kalimba (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Gary Portelli trained filly that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since her debut back in January when down the track behind a sharp horse, Don Corleone. Two trials to get ready and after scratchings, this race is a bit on the thin side, so don’t dismiss her.
Race 2. (18:30) Drinkwise Mdn Plate 1100m
No surprise there has been early support for 11 Shamrock Sally (Bet Now: $SP.00). Les Bridge trains this filly and he’s not a trainer that usually has one ready to go for start one unless they’re pretty good and I reckon this girl goes pretty good. Two trials to get ready and each time she has caught my eye, notably the latest when winning over 1050m at Randwick, closing off nicely late to win. That 1050m trial should give her an ideal grounding for start one and Reece Jones, who rode her in that trial win, rides her here.
12 Yvette (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beautifully bred filly for Maher/Eustace on debut. She is by I Am Invincible out Group l winning mare Secret Agenda so she has a bit to live up to and she did look well enough in a trial at Warwick Farm several weeks ago when a close up third. The break from then til now intrigues me so watch the market and see if it says she’s ready to go.
13 I Am Famous (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of I Am Invincible that resumes for Chris Waller. She had two runs in the Winter to start her career, placing on debut before a down the track effort at Randwick behind The Little Pumper. Couple of trials to get ready and she showed in her first prep to say she can take out a race like this first up.
Race 3. (19:00) Tab Super Mdn Plate 1550m
4 Duke Of Lancaster (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps each way for Chris Waller. He was a forgive IMO last time out on the Kenso given he was keen in the run and the track had juice in it, which I don’t think is something he appreciates, so he gets firmer footing here, he should be fine at 1550m, maps ideally…I think he’s worth the gamble at around double figures.
7 Northern Eyes (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win a maiden. He ran here four weeks ago at this track/distance and kept chasing in a pretty good effort behind Mogwal, who didn’t really fire last weekend at Randwick but wasn’t ideally placed, so not totally dismissing that form. Tick over trial was good and he will be strong late.
11 Booster Shot (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope for John Sargent. This gelding debuted over 1350m at Wyong where he looked a bit lost around the tight track early but he picked up and was actually pretty good in the run to the line behind Look At Moi Kim. Like him up in trip…likely concedes a start but wouldn’t shock me if he finished over the top.
Race 4. (19:30) Hyland Race Colours (Bm72) 1900m
5 Brynner (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Jason Coyle has him going really well at the moment, getting the win two back at this track/distance before going to the Kenso where he seemingly had every chance but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Tympanist, who goes around at Randwick as a key chance. Maps to do no work, hard fit, in form…straight bat play.
6 Monarchs Brae (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Chris Waller after winning last Friday night at this track/distance where he got complete control in front and gave nothing else a look in. Got the wobbles on the turn but he had it too good in front and kicked on to win. Looks the leader again and with control, he’ll take running down.
3 Our Bambino (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Pat Murphy trained stayer that can be dangerous at odds. He ran in the Country Classic at Rosehill last time and I thought was very good in defeat after sitting on speed, sticking on well in defeat behind Zegalo. He’ll land on speed and if he gets a soft run in transit, he’ll keep chipping away.
Race 5. (20:00) James Squire (Bm72) 1550m
7 Sensory (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning for Chris Waller. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where she got into a dream spot near the speed before being clicked up by J Mac and in a driving finish, she was too good. Maps to get the suck run once again and off a win, she rates highly for me in what looks a very winnable race.
All you can do is win and that is what 9 Kenyada (Bet Now: $SP.00) did on debut at Newcastle, finishing powerfully from off the speed to score, landing decent each way bets in the process. That was at 1500m so with good improvement to come, I think she’ll be around the mark and is a key threat.
The best version of 1 Chenin (Bet Now: $SP.00) is certainly capable. This mare resumed three weeks back at this track/distance where she attempted to lead throughout but she was a beaten horse at the top of the straight and tired to finish down the track behind Buillt. Does tend to get better as the prep goes on so I wouldn’t be totally dismissing her, especially if she gets a cheap lead.
Race 6. (20:30) Bivouac First Yearlings (Bm72) 1550m
9 Avonview (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps each way for Anthony Cummings. On paper, he was plain at Wyong last time, but when you break down the race splits, he had no chance of being involved so forgive and forget the run. If he can use the inside gate to advantage and settle closer in the run, he’s going well enough to be a threat and prove strong at the end.
8 Head Of The Herd (Bet Now: $SP.00) is odds on and while he’s hard to beat, he shouldn’t be that short. He led throughout over 1500m at Hawkesbury last time out, spanking them by a space and ran time, but they were running time that meeting and he beat up scrubs. He finds the front here, likely gets control, can win…but as a betting proposition, he’s not that.
1 Glounthaune (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver at odds for Bjorn Baker. He ran last Friday night at this track/distance when back off the speed in the run and tried to make up ground out wide, but just whacked to the line late behind Burning Need. He hasn’t set the world on fire since arriving down under but gets in well after the claim and could pinch a first four spot.
Race 7. (21:00) Kia Evening Star (Bm72) 1200m
2 Shines (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am heading. He resumes for Team Hawkes, having not raced since August 23 on the Kenso when back off the speed and kept finding the line in a pretty solid effort behind Cheerful Legend. He is a horse who can sprint well on the fresh side and his recent trial was a lovely piece of work. Happy to be in his corner.
3 Diamond Diesel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an Adam Duggan trained gelding that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since July 22 when back in the run and making up good headway late when close up in defeat behind the then in form Soami. He is a horse who does race well on the fresh side and despite drawing a wide gate, he rates highly against this lot.
4 Oakfield Duke (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Kris Lees trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since July 5 on the Kenso when down the track behind Omni Man, who of course went on to be a Stakes performer, so that form line clearly reads well for a race like this. Sprints well fresh, trial work has been solid…watch the market.
Race 8. (21:30) Schweppes (Bm64) 1200m
6 How Dare You (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in for a good prep for James Cummings. She resumed on the Kenso over 1100m where she was back off the speed and chased hard in the straight, just failing to get there when a narrow second to Treize. Better for that run under the belt, hard to beat with luck from the tricky gate.
7 Rotorua (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Freedman trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since October 12 when a sharp maiden winner at Kembla in her first run for the new stable after formerly being with Mark Newnham. Trial work has been strong and after scratchings, this race has thinned right out. Hard to beat.
2 One Destiny (Bet Now: $SP.00) can win without shocking. He comes through the Starlight at Rosehill where he was clearly outclassed on paper but for the most part, i thought he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Dragonstone. Drops big time here in grade/depth, he maps ideally…you’d have to think he’s a winning chance.
