A bumper ten race card has been set down for Newcastle this Saturday, headlined by The Hunter (1300m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:35) Max Lees Classic 900m
9 Pomelo Chamomile (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a good mover for Kris Lees. Has only had the one public trial, which saw her win on the Beaumont track here when on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and she found under pressure late to fend them off and score. Looks a nice filly and given the race name, you can only assume the intent is quite clear.
I like the look of 8 Mystical (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). Slow overall time her trial at Warwick Farm but gee she moved nicely and was happy to take a check and burst through between runners, a really good sign for an unraced juvenile. Tommy on from a good draw, she rates highly.
12 Yamashita (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Tiger Of Malay filly for the Beer/Carpenter camp that debuts off the back of a trial win last week at Kembla where she led throughout and though asked for an effort, she did respond and was impressive. Keen to see how she goes.
Race 2. (13:10) Novocastrian Electrical Midway Handicap 1600m
5 Kingston Charm (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should take beating here for John Thompson. She ran in the Four Pillars two weeks ago where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never threatening, she made up ground and was pretty good late in the piece. Like her up in trip, depth not as deep, good each way gamble I say.
9 Strawberry Impact (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. Blake Ryan trained mare that ran over 1500m at Randwick a fortnight back in a solid benchmark race and kept finding the line in defeat behind impressive winenr Rotagilla. Like her up to the mile and commands respect.
1 Broadway Bouncer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was far from disgraced in the Four Pillars I thought. He got into a reasonable spot in transit and was there to threaten but just couldn’t quite get there behind Sonfofdec. If he jumps clean and can be within range, he’s dangerous.
Race 3. (13:45) Tab Highway Handicap (C3) 1600m
3 Southerly Buster (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile after resuming over 1350m on the Beaumont track here when off speed and just whacked, lacking change up speed, but wasn’t too bad late in the piece. Good upside to come, he’s in the mix.
There looks to be clear intent here with 5 Off The Scale (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) given he is first up at the mile and first up in the Highway. Lou Mary is a very astute trainer and places horses to advantage. Recent Scone trial was very good, he’s here to play.
2 Craft (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) didn’t beat much at Canberra on Melbourne Cup Day but the manner in which he put them away was impressive. He lobbed on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to spank his rivals in dominant fashion. Commands respect against these.
Race 4. (14:20) Komplete Laundry Solutions Handicap (Bm78) 1400m
1 Waimare (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should prove hard to beat here for Team Archibald after her fourth on Cup Day at Randwick behind Magnatear, chasing strongly from off speed but just couldn’t quite get there. Back to Mares grade, in well after the claim, she rates highly.
7 It’s A Wonder (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form for Ryan/Alexiou and is one of the hardest to beat after a midweek win at Rosehill where she handled the bog track best and in a driving go was too good. Her confidence is up now and overall, this isn’t an overly deep contest.
6 Dances With Hooves (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be around the mark for Cam Crockett. She ran over 1100m at Scone last tim where she found them a bit sharp but didn’t mind the way she finished her race off in defeat behind Cool Storm. Likes racing at Newcastle and strikes a winnable race.
Race 5. (14:55) Lees Racing 'Legend' Mile Handicap (Bm78) 1600m
4 Meridiana… (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) bless the heart of Sonofdec and the ride from JVO, but this girl should have won the Four Pillars. It was a tragedy what unfolded for her fans, getting badly held up from off speed before eventually geting clear and savaged the line when second. If the breaks go her way, I think good luck beating her.
Once 3 Sonofdec (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) lobbed midfield in the Four Pillars, it was race over. It was a day where being inside and saving ground was ideal and he did take advantage, but he was there to be run down by Meridiana but found to fend off and win. Has to be respected.
10 Eclair Encore (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to the mile after racing at the midweeks at Rosehill where she wasn’t 100% happy on the bog but she stayed on and was a definite pass mark in defeat behind It’s A Wonder. Firmer deck and up in trip, home track, she can threaten.
Race 6. (15:30) Alf Kneebone Trans-Tasman Trophy Handicap (Bm88) 1850m
1 Hollywood Hero (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is bursting to win for Bjorn Baker. Tried his absolute guts out in The Little Dance but just found one better in Osipenko in a driving go. Like him up in trip, has upside to come, he takes beating here I say.
3 Time Quest (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should take beating back to this level after racing in The Big Dance when back in the run nearer the inside and didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight so forgive and forget the run. Sneaky flying this horse and back to this level, he takes beating.
9 Barazin (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps back up in trip for Kris Lees after racing in The Little Dance. He got a fair way out of his ground and he just found the mile a bridge too far when down the track behind Osipenko. Like him back up in trip and has home track advantage. In the mix.
Race 7. (16:05) Nzb 3YO Spring Stakes (G3) 1600m
9 Rosa Incanta (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) stpes up to the mile after an all the way win over 1300m here. Credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and get the job done. Good racing style, in the right camp, and this isn’t a deep contest.
7 Long Legs (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to the mile after a first up win over 1400m at Rosehill when leading throughout and she gave nothing else a look in to win convincingly. The 1600m is a slight queyr but with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
10 Verity (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is progressive and heading in the right direction for Messara/Gavranich. She has won her past two, the latest at this track/distance when giving them a start and a beating to win and win well. Good test here but think she can measure up.
Race 8. (16:45) The Hunter (G2) 1300m
14 Yorkshire (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented animal for O’Shea/Charlton that resumes. He is first up, with eyes on securing a Doncaster spot via The Ingham. He is better suited over slightly further but has trialled up very well, will spot them a start but be quite effective late. Watch betting.
3 Coal Crusher (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been set for this race for a fair whole for Joe Pride and looks cherry ripe after contesting the Russell Balding when wide, doing all the work, but he stayed on and was really good in defeat I thought behind Jimmysstar. That is the A1 form reference for this, so he has to be rated highly.
11 Accredited (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1300m after resuming over 1100m at Randwick where he took a little while to wind up but presented to win and looked the winner but was nabbed on the peg by stablemate Estadio Mestalla. Fitter and up in trip, he’s one of the leading contenders.
Race 9. (17:20) The Beauford 2300m
7 Firm Agreement (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is suited up in trip for Team Archibald. Too far out of his ground in the Rosehill Cup but was solid late in the piece without really threatening. He should love the rise in distance and has more upside than most.
3 Future History (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should love the rise to 2300m. Reckon they rode him a touch negative in the JRA Cup and he wasn’t able to build the revs and wind into his work, where he races best. Hard to beat if that can eventuate here.
8 Wyclif (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a big improver here I say. Forget his run in the St Leger given it was a glorified barrier trial and with the race shape, him being back, he was never going to threaten. Much better suited here, hopefully with more tempo…sneaky chance at odds.
Race 10. (17:55) Hall & Wilcox Handicap (Bm94) 1300m
Looks to be a bit of intent here with 15 Midnight Opal (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for Nathan Doyle. He ran at Randwick last Tuesday, his first run in several weeks. He sat on speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late behind Carbonados. Better for the run, ridden a touch more patiently, he appeals.
14 Brave One (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should love the rise to 1300m after resuming over 1100m at Randwick two weeks ago. Race shape was completely against him, he hated the wet track but he kept finding the line in defeat when second to Pokerjack. Fitter and up in trip, firmer deck, he’s dangerous. But, I will say I think he’s on the short side in betting.
9 Elliptical (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the program. Chris Waller trained gelding that comes back to Australia after a failed stint in Hong Kong where he just didn’t handle the racing and life over there. Back down under and his trial work has been encouraging so watch betting.
