A nine race card has been assembled for Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres from the 1500m-Winning Post; Out four metres for the remainder.
Dane Ripper Stakes 🏆: View the Field for the Dane Ripper Stakes
Race 1. (11:35) Xxxx Dry (bm85) 1300m
5 Elixir (Bet Now: $6.50) for me. Les Kelly trains this gelding, who is three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m here where he was back off the speed and found the line pretty well I thought when third to Plenty, who of course won last Saturday to frank the form. He’s a two time winner at 1300m, so this looks ideal placement.
2 Thy Kingdom Come (Bet Now: $2.60) is bursting to win a race for John Thompson. Looked all over a winner last time out when Maloney showed initiative to take the front and he gave a really good kick in the straight. Just couldn’t quite hold out Red Chase in a tight go to the line. Racing really well and is deserving of a win. Gets his chance.
9 Saxton Rock (Bet Now: $23.00) is a son of Snitzel for Matty Dunn that resumes. This five year old hasn’t raced since January 11 over 1800m here on Magic Millions Day when down the track but far from disgraced behind Etana. Given a quiet trial last week at Murwillumbah but looked in good order and can sprint well fresh, so watch the market.
Race 2. (12:10) Lexus (bm85) 1300m
I’m going to have something each way on 11 Mewstone Rock (Bet Now: $31.00) for the Symons/Laxon team. I was keen on her at a price last time out at Doomben but she didn’t really fire a shot behind Mr Bellagio. Interesting that the Tongue Control and Lugging Bit are off, so tinkering with the gear and a drop of rain certainly won’t hurt.
7 The Pines (Bet Now: $4.00) has such an awful racing pattern but she’s got a good engine under the hood and hoping the tempo is on for him to finish over the top. Ran over 1200m at the Sunny Coast a few weeks ago under the lights where she was back near last in the run under the lights and worked home strongly, just missing out on the win when second to Winter Passage. Bursting to win one and gets her chance.
5 Tardis (Bet Now: $8.50) is running out of chances. She’s teased to win one this prep but hasn’t quite gone on with it. Latest run came at the Gold Coast back on May 16 in the Silk Stocking when far from disgraced in defeat behind Love You Lucy. She’s been teasing to win one this prep but hasn’t done it yet, but back to this level suits.
Race 3. (12:45) The Village Kitchen (bm78) 1600m
12 Barefoot (Bet Now: $9.00) is a mare who hasn’t done a great deal since her 3YO days but getting some give in the track will certainly help her cause so I’ll take a punt. Comes through a very fast run race at Doomben and liked the way she found the line late behind La Pulga, an indication she might be finding some positive form. I’ll lean her way.
16 Fairy Me Home (Bet Now: $14.00) is working up to another win for Chris Waller. Comes back in trip after racing over 1800m at the Gold Coast at his past couple, the latest seeing him run second to Joymaker, who was ridden positively for once and duly saluted. Fairy Me Home is more often than not around the mark and he’ll be strong late.
18 Rebel Rock (Bet Now: $8.50) was on trial for a crack at the Rough Habit but he didn’t really fire a shot in the Gunsynd so the stable sent him back to the mile at Doomben and he showed a bit of class late in finishing best from off the speed under a nice ride from the in form Taylor Marshall. Should love the Eagle Farm mile and is a key chance.
Race 4. (13:22) Dalrello Stakes 1200m
Want to give 1 Tumbler Ridge (Bet Now: $7.50) another chance. Had a freshen up prior to racing at this track/distance three weeks ago when ridden a bit too warm on speed I thought and left him with nothing left for the straight when third to Cosmic Gossip. IMO, he’s much better when ridden with a sit, so if that eventuates here, he can bounce back.
7 Smart ‘N’ Sexy (Bet Now: $4.50) should eat up the 1200m here for Team Edmonds. Resumed two weeks ago at Doomben in the Bill Carter and you had to like the way she found the line late when a close up fifth to September Run. Can sit closer in the run from the good draw and on breeding, rain affected ground won’t be an issue.
3 Concealed (Bet Now: $8.00) looks to be heading in the right direction for Team Snowden. Debuted with an eye catching fifth at Kembla Grange before going to Canterbury where he got conditions to suit and took full advantage, scoring a good win. Stable love to pick and find these kind of blacktype races, so he commands respect.
Race 5. (14:02) Tattersall's Cup 2400m
Think 1 Shraaoh (Bet Now: $14.00) is a good gamble here. Sydney Cup winner from last year who really hasn’t done much since that won, but they slapped the Blinkers on in the Chairmans two weeks ago and I thought he was a real eye catcher late, his second up run and second run at 2000m. He wants further, he gets further, and he gets onto a big track. I think he takes a power of beating here.
11 Savacool (Bet Now: $4.80) is unknown at 1400m but is racing as if she’ll be fine at it. One of many from the Chairmans that races here, and her effort from near last in the run was very good to run second to stablemate Le Juge. Off that, she should have no trouble at 2400m, but you don’t know if she’ll run it out with confidence so that’s the gamble you’ll have to take.
4 Brimham Rocks (Bet Now: $5.50) is another from the Chairmans that will eat up 2400m. He was having his second run at 2000m in that race and the start prior, he looked like he wanted further, so remaining at 2000m didn’t help, but he stuck on well. Now gets to 2400m and we know the stable have to be respected in these staying races.
Race 6. (14:42) Tab Ascot Qlty 1200m
The one from the Hinkler I have eyes on is 7 Grey Shadow (Bet Now: $8.00). I think she would have gone close to winning if she got a clear path in the straight. Never really got clear until it was too late but when she did get clear, she savaged the line. That was her first run since April 11, so she’s got plenty of improvement to come and 1200m on the big track suits.
2 Scallopini (Bet Now: $3.70) is a Steve O’Dea trained galloper who should love the rise to 1200m. 1110m was a trip short of his best when resuming in the Hinkler but he chased strongly and got up to nail Boomtown Lass on the peg. He’s better suited at Eagle Farm, up in distance, enormous upside…he’s very likeable here.
8 Right Or Wrong (Bet Now: $11.00) is big odds here and I’m a bit surprised by that. Yes, he didn’t beat much when winning two weeks ago at Doomben, but the manner in which he put them away was most impressive and he’s always showed blacktype talent. Not sure he’ll get a better chance to win a race like this, especially down in the weights.
Race 7. (15:22) The Roses 1800m
2 Vanna Girl… (Bet Now: $2.30 SPECIAL ODDS) she looks the good thing of good things. All she has to do is hold her form and she’ll win again. Big effort to get the job done two weeks ago in the Pam O’Neill when producing a brilliant finale from the back to get up and win. She’s even better suited at Eagle Farm, up to 1800m…she just wins I think.
4 Celestial Falls (Bet Now: $4.50) has done little wrong in two runs back from a break. Gutsy second first up at Randwick to the in form Soldier Of Love before going to the Pam O’Neill when on speed and fighting on strongly, only to be nabbed late by Vanna Girl. Off that, hard to see her turning the tables, but she does have upside.
14 Miss Penfold (Bet Now: $101.00) is one I’d be including at odds. IMO, she was ridden too warm in the Pam O’Neill when just off the speed and couldn’t really finish it off behind Vanna Girl. She seems more effective when ridden cold and saved for one run. If that can eventuate here, she’ll run a much improved race at decent odds.
Race 8. (16:00) Eagle Farm Mile 1600m
4 Niccanova (Bet Now: $2.70) has to beat this lot these surely. Could easily make a case that he should have won the Stradbroke last Saturday had it not been for an interrupted path in the straight when a close up third to Tyzone. 1600m is ideal and he did the seven day back up successfully during the Summer Carnival.
The class of 1 Best Of Days (Bet Now: $9.00) will carry him a long way here. Been given a few weeks off, having not raced since the Gosford Cup at Randwick when getting the suck run in behind and chasing strongly to run third to Another Dollar. Been saved for this race and his tick over trial at Warwick Farm was quite good. Hard to beat.
7 Victory Eight (Bet Now: $35.00) saves his best for the Sunny Coast so that’s the knock leading into this, but he’s flying. Hasn’t raced since taking out the Wayne Wilson Mile at the Sunny Coast where he was massive odds, but credit to him. He was wide throughout but found plenty under pressure and was too good, just. Can he bring his Sunny Coast form to Eagle Farm?
Race 9. (16:35) Dane Ripper Stakes 1400m
14 Romani Girl (Bet Now: $23.00) looks perfectly set up to run well here. Two runs back have been pretty good, catching the eye late in the Dark Jewel first up and was much the same two weeks ago at Doomben in the Helen Coughlan. She’ll eat up 1400m on the big track and last two times she was around this distance range, she ran third in the Magic Millions Mares race.
The class of 2 Irithea (Bet Now: $4.00) will carry her a long way towards victory. Hasn’t raced since May 16 when knuckling down strongly at Rosehill to get a well deserved win in the Dark Jewel. Freshened up with this race in mind and thought her trial last week at Warwick Farm was very good. She’ll go close on class alone.
It was a bit of an ugly watch if you were on 6 Fiesta (Bet Now: $15.00) in the Silk Stocking. Clear air and she wins. Just badly held up at a vital stage before getting clear air late, poking through, and driving hard to just miss out on picking up Love From Lucy. She’ll love the rise to 1400m and is clearly one of the hardest to beat here.
