12/8/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

SA racing continues on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday for an eight race card. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out six metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out four metres for the remainder.

1 Bold Zamour (Bet Now: $12.00) clearly on top. Local veteran who is probably one of the best jumpers SA has to offer at the moment. His effort here a fortnight back was excellent I thought, making up really good ground late behind About The Journey. Very confident he can turn the tables provided he doesn’t get as far back.

2 About The Journey (Bet Now: $4.40) is an absolute beauty for the Musgrove team. He lacks the class/brilliance to compete in the better class jumps races, but he is very reliable at this level, as he proved two weeks ago with a near faultless display in getting the job done. Creeping up in the weights, but he is tough so I doubt that will be an excuse.

7 Strike The Stars (Bet Now: $27.00) is now with the Belinda Simpson yard after formerly being with Eric Musgrove. She comes through the Don’t Be Shy jumps race at Sale last Wednesday where he got back in the run and closed off well late in the piece. Still a maiden over the sticks, and I think that will remain the case here, but a threat for exotics.

4 Atlantica (Bet Now: $2.70) is the one for me in a nothing race. Jim Smith trained galloper that debuted on a shifty track at Gawler and despite being a drifter in betting, I thought she was quite impressive to the eye and was strong to the line. Wong and his 3kg claim is a big help and she can measure up.

6 Shera Khan (Bet Now: $6.50) is a two start maiden for the Richard Jolly yard but is nearing a win and finds a great race to do just that. She ran at Gawler last start and attempted to lead all the way but just struggled a bit to pick her feet up when second to Balwarra Gold. Looks the leader here and hopefully a firmer surface should see her take some beating.

2 El Desperado (Bet Now: $1.90) is a Will Clarken trained gelding that was thrown in the deep end on debut in the Oaklands and I thought he acquitted himself quite well in defeat behind the promising Terry. Clear drop in depth here and he has the form on the board. Definite threat here.

1 Supreme Polarity (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding who was a good thing beaten when resuming over 1050m on the course proper a fortnight back. Got back in a crawl, then had to try and make ground between runners and was looking as if he was going to burst through and win but he couldn’t quite. Up to 1250m, second up…yep, he’s the one.

4 Sudden Wealth (Bet Now: $3.40) is on the seven day back up for the Clarken camp after racing over 1250m here last Saturday where she really had no hope given the tempo of the race yet she savaged the line from last to run a close up second to Nipperkin. She has had the two 1250m runs now from a little freshen up. The one to beat.

 6 Magnus Knight (Bet Now: $7.00) has seemed to turn the corner this time in for the Balfour camp. Gave his rivals a spanking fresh at Balaklava before racing over this track/distance where he was confidently backed and tried hard but couldn’t match the turn of foot produced by Sudden Wealth. Confident he can go close.

1 Balf’s Choice (Bet Now: $2.15) looks the one once again. Ryan Balfour trained galloper who is absolutely flying at the moment. Ran over the mile on the course proper a fortnight back where he got back in a slowly run affair before Kah eased him to the outside and he produced a 600m-700m run for a sharp win. He can continue the picket fence.

7 Kapset (Bet Now: $4.00) isn’t the most trustworthy horse to be racing but this is one of the easier races he has contested in some time. He ran over the Sandown mile last time out and just did a bit too much work on speed when tiring late behind the in form mare Dulverton. That reads well for a race like this for sure IMHO.

6 London Fog (Bet Now: $3.60) might need one or two more runs to show his best but I think he is right in this. Loved his fresh run three weeks back over 1400m at Flemington. Got back near last in a crawl and for a stayer, yeah, no chance. Outsprinted but loved his final 100m and through the line. He’ll be charging again.

7 Via Cavour (Bet Now: $11.00) on top but it’s race that you can’t really be confident about. This Mark Webb trained mare has the right form to win, but she herself is a bit of a non winner and is coming back in trip after racing over 2500m a fortnight back when a gallant third to the above average Kellstorm. If that form is brought her, I think she wins, but three from 38 isn’t exciting.

11 Carak (Bet Now: $18.00) is a progressive up and comer from the Ricky Bruhn camp at Mount Gambier. He ran over 1700m at the Bool last Tuesday where he got back off them in the run and stuck on really behind Aagas. Racing as if the 1950m will suit, and he does find a very winnable race here.

1 Allez Tara (Bet Now: $10.00) is on the quick turnaround after racing at this track/distance last Saturday where he did a power of work on speed before eventually taking the leader but as soon as he did, there was Alamonteel bolting up and dashing clear. He’s getting fitter now and this isn’t a strong race.

7 Miss Murra (Bet Now: $16.00) should be suited by the rise to 1400m. She ran over 1250m here a few weeks back where she got back off the pace and never really looked likely but stuck on quite well behind impressive winner Sudden Wealth. Bit more depth here, but is down in the weights and that was her first run in a month, so there should be improvement.

1 Hadda Couple (Bet Now: $8.00) is a handy middle distance/stayer that resumes for the Will Clarken stable. His best form will be over further, but he does have a touch of quality on his side and he did make up ground nicely late fresh last time in at Mount Gambier in what has turned out to be a decent form race.

11 Von Costa Glass (Bet Now: $14.00) is the very interesting runner for mine. Mare that resumes for the Sue Jaensch team after one run in June, which saw sprout wings to win at Naracoorte in a race where the form has been okay subsequent. Comes to town, fresh, at the 1400m. I’d pay attention to the market flucs for sure.

9 Mystified (Bet Now: $1.65) looks a standout to my eye. She comes through the Lightning a fortnight back where she was given every chance by Pannell in the run but had to settle for a fourth to Bandipur. I think if anything, she was too close to the tempo. Her go is getting back and flashing. If that eventuates, she’s the one.

4 Barood (Bet Now: $13.00) had really good market support at odds when racing over the 1050m on the course proper two weeks ago and the market support was justified with a tough and gritty on speed win. Yet to see the Parks track, but he loves give in the ground and that was his first run in six weeks, so there should be upside.

5 Penny For A Pound (Bet Now: $11.00) is a talented mare that resumes for the David Jolly yard. Her form in the Summer was pretty good, with a couple of wins in there before a down the track effort behind Cavaloce in the Marion. Trial looked outstanding to the eye and she flies fresh. Big watch.

9 Counter Spin (Bet Now: $6.50) is on the seven day back up for the Macdonald/Gluyas team after racing here last Saturday where he arguably could have gone close to beating Arkham Knight had he got clear running at the right time. This horse is flying at the moment and the seven day back up is no issue for mine.

11 Serenely Discreet (Bet Now: $3.30) is a smart mare for the Stokes yard who should take some beating here. This mare resumed on July 1 over 1200m where she just got too far back in the run and ran out of puff late behind Arkham Knight, who has franked the form big time since. Break between runs a query, but she has class.

2 Little Akie (Bet Now: $51.00) is a greybeard at 10 years of age but gee the old boy is racing well. Really had no hope two weeks back behind Go The Journey in a crawl but he still picked up and really attacked the line, taking ground off late. Would love him over further than this, but the speed engaged here looks good so he’ll get his chance.
