The Parks track at Morphettville will play host to a nine race card on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:47) Adelaide Racing Carnival Mdn 1000m
1 Alpha Flight (Bet Now: $2.70) is a talented looking animal for Team Jolly. Debuted here three weeks ago and I thought he worked home strongly from last in the run when third to Rockstar Meggsy. Noteworthy that he was smashed in betting late, so I am respecting that and he’ll be better for the run.
3 Prince Tikea (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Travis Doudle trained juvenile that is having start one. He was pushed out in a recent trial but he did respond nicely and looked to move well. As is the case with these kind of races, your best friend will be the market, so watch it and see what it does.
7 Looks Like A Lady (Bet Now: $11.00) is one to include for wider exotics. This filly trialled behind Imbible in the heat mentioned above. She moved okay late when pushed out and did make ground without threatening. Another right down in the weights, she does command respect for a stable that can a juvenile to get ready.
Race 2. (13:22) Fleurieu Milk Company (c1) 1000m
5 Daring Move (Bet Now: $4.60) looks a sharp filly. Team Jolly filly that debuted a couple of weeks ago at Balaklava over 1050m where sustained speed from the front came to the fore in a dominant display. Form out of that has been good and she has the right racing pattern for this track.
1 Magic Max (Bet Now: $2.60) is a son of Magnus for the Richards/Moyle camp that resumes. Hasn’t raced since Melbourne Cup Day down the straight at Flemington where he was outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Profiteer. The market will be fascinating to see which way it goes with him.
3 The Magistrate (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Sam Burford trained three year old that comes straight to town after winning on debut last Wednesday at Balaklava where he knuckled down strongly late to win, albeit the overall time was plain to my eye. But, he’s got upside to come and stable don’t have too bad of a record when they come to town.
Race 3. (13:57) Pfd Food Service (bm60) 1550m
1 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now: $4.00) is absolutely flying for Michael Hickmott without winning. He should have won his past two, but fair to say that Lloyd has slaughtered him both times. Third week in four weeks he is racing, but really, the previous two runs, he hasn’t been fully extended. Hard to beat.
2 Wordy (Bet Now: $4.20) finds a winnable race for Team Kavanagh. He ran over the mile at The Valley last time out when near the speed and doing work, fighting on pretty well late behind Jaffastock, who won on Wednesday at Sandown, so the form reads well and gets the claim for an in form Jacob Opperman.
6 Turfitt (Bet Now: $4.80) has had three runs back from a break, all of which have come at 1200m, the latest being two weeks back behind Struck By and liked the way she finished her race off albeit never a threat. I do think the rise to 1550m is a positive and is in with a shout for sure.
Race 4. (14:32) Grand Syndicates (bm72) 2250m
3 Wertheimer (Bet Now: $2.90) on top for me. At the time of writing this preview (Wednesday), the final field for the Adelaide Cup hasn’t been released. This guy is nominated so not entirely sure where he goes, but if he runs here, he’s the one because he brings the Lord Reims form, which isn’t as strong as what it reads, but it is quite strong for this.
10 Art Major (Bet Now: $3.30) doesn’t bring the strongest of form lines from Victoria, but that usually can measure up in these SA staying races. He was near the speed at Stony Creek last time out and battled on well with the big weight when a narrow second to Tobytoff. Gets good weight relief and stable finds Vorster.
7 All Hard Wood (Bet Now: $11.00) is one for wider multiples. Did too much work on speed two weeks back in the Lord Reims and clearly just found the class a bit rich when down the track behind Canford. This looks a more suitable assignment so an improved showing is on the cards.
Race 5. (15:12) Tab Ata Trainers Trust (bm60) 1250m
9 Bludog (Bet Now: $16.00) is a first four contender. Ran over this trip at Balaklava last Wednesday and worked home strongly against the track pattern when third to Bignota, who was suited by the on speed bias. Bludog has only won the one race, which doesn’t read great, but I think he’s going well.
7 Yeelanna (Bet Now: $5.00) is a daughter of The Factor for David Jolly that was specked at a price when racing at this track/distance and got a suck run behind the speed before angling into clear air and she let down strongly to get the job done. Now she has a win on the board, she can hold that form.
5 Mysticano (Bet Now: $7.50) doesn’t win out of turn but is generally around the mark. Did work from a wide gate when racing here three weeks back and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off. In saying that, he stayed on pretty well when third to Yeelanna. Not sure I could back him to win, but a must for multiples.
Race 6. (15:52) Furphy (bm64) 1400m
7 Fields Of Ivy (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Team McEvoy mare that deserves another chance. Market wanted her when she resumed three weeks ago over 1250m here. She was held up at stages, but overall, I thought she had her chance when fourth to Yeelanna. Better for the run, her best is clearly good enough to take this out.
6 Blah Blah Blah (Bet Now: $5.00) is three weeks between runs for Ryan Balfour since racing over this track/distance where he was given a peach by a very much in form Campbell Rawiller and loved the way this horse dug in late to get the job done. Had been knocking on the door to win one prior so now he has, he can go on with it.
10 Frankel Star (Bet Now: $4.60) has been up a little while but is holding his form pretty well. Looked the winner three weeks ago on the Parks track under Opperman but he had no answers to the finale of Blah Blah Blah, who finished best out wide to score. He’s knocking on the door to win and finds a suitable race.
Race 7. (16:32) Dominant (bm76) 1300m
4 Struck By… (Bet Now: $2.10) is he back? I am saying yes. Did he beat a strong field two weeks ago when resuming? I say no, but it was just the arrogance of the win that impressed me and it showed that, IMO, he is back towards his best and his best saw him win at Stakes level this time last year. He’s on track and should prove hard to beat here.
8 Japery (Bet Now: $4.20) should get a suck run from the inside gate. He was near the speed in the race mentioned above and did try hard, but was clearly no match for Struck By. That does look the right form reference, so I can’t see him turning the tables, but runs well again.
1 Terbium (Bet Now: $7.00) is four weeks between runs for Phillip Stokes since racing over 1200m on the courser proper here where he was there to win when let down but couldn’t quite get the job done when a narrow second to River Twain. He’s racing well without winning. Suspect that is the case again.
Race 8. (17:12) Tab Adelaide Cup Monday (bm62) 1400m
6 Starsongari (Bet Now: $9.00) should have no issue with 1400m IMO. Loved the way she attacked the line from off the speed to win three weeks ago on the Parks track over 1300m under Vorster, really drawing clear late in a good performance. Yet to try 1400m, but off the 1300m win last time, she should be fine.
7 Last Girl Love (Bet Now: $2.40) is a Team McEvoy trained filly that was good late on debut at Warrnambool. She then went to Balaklava when smashed in the betting and the market got it spot on as she made an absolute mess of them. Tick over trial was good and she finds a winnable metro race.
9 Belle Of Yorkes (Bet Now: $14.00) comes back in trip, which I find interesting, and perhaps a sign that back in trip, month between runs…are they thinking SA Oaks. Her last run was over 1700m at Gawler and she kept finding the line in a good effort when a close up third. Gets back here but will be strong late.
Race 9. (17:49) The Junction (bm64) 1000m
2 Larkham (Bet Now: $2.35) is a hit and miss type for Ryan Balfour but when he’s on, he’s a smart horse, as seen two weeks ago when knuckling down strongly late to nab Philonize near the peg. I will say he was blessed in run, but the resumption was encouraging and he had jumped out super leading in. He’s come back well and is hard to beat.
9 Bleriot (Bet Now: $6.00) is a key threat for me. Quality filly for Will Clarken that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since the Winter where she ran fourth at Morphettville behind a promising animal, Keep Reading. The trials leading in have been strong. Market will be the guide as to whether she’s ready or not.
6 Shellshocked (Bet Now: $7.00) is in with a shout if the track is playing on speed. In saying that, he had the bias in his corner last Wednesday at Balaklava and could only manage fourth to Starspangled Saga. In well after the claim, gate one, he’ll land near the front and run a bold race.
