Night racing continues at Cranbourne this Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (17:45) Hygain Tracktorque (Bm64) 1000m
4 Bonnie Amore (Bet Now:Β $2.50) is a Greg Eurell trained mare that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since May 8 at Sandown when a closing second to Oak Hill after getting back off the speed. Home track advantage, looks to have jumped out well and gets in well after the claim.
1 Skipjack (Bet Now:Β $2.60) is a Moody/Coleman trained son of Rubick that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Feb 10 at Caulfield Heath when far from disgraced in defeat behind the then in form Chinqui. He looked sharp in a recent jumpout win and will press forward.
6 Deep Joy (Bet Now:Β $9.00) comes back to Provincial grade for Ciaron Maher after racing over this trip at Sandown a few weeks back when off speed and worked home well enough without threatening behind Bifrost. If she can use the inside gate to advantage, she’s dangerous.
Race 2. (18:15) Browns Sawdust & Shavings Mdn Plate 1000m
9 Iced Chocolate (Bet Now:Β $1.95) looks to have a bit on these, all things being equal. She resumes for Dan Meagher after formerly being with David Vandyke in Queensland where she threatened to win races but kept finding one better. Given a good break and has jumped out nicely for her return. Clearly the one to beat.
5 No Fooling (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is a son of Alabama Express that is on debut for Ciaron Maher. He has had a couple of jumpouts in readiness for start one, the latest coming on March 10 over 1000m here where he didn’t seem to move too bad to my eye. I think watch betting and see what it does.
8 Brazenly (Bet Now:Β $61.00) is third up from a spell for Jack Laing and should be at peak fitness. She ran over 1000m at Yarra Valley last time out where she was near the speed throughout and tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Gets in really well after the claim, not penning her.
Race 3. (18:45) R&C Asphalt Mdn Plate 1200m
6 Yes I Believe (Bet Now:Β $4.50) comes back to 1200m for Clayton Douglas after racing over 1400m at Pakenham where he got a fair way back in the run but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off in defeat. Back to 1200m I find interesting but Blinkers on and should be strong late.
7 Ahha Ahha (Bet Now:Β $2.15) is a key threat for me. Clinton McDonald trained filly that ran over 1100m at Sale last time when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat when fourth. Racing like a rise to 1200m is ideal and overall, the depth here is a bit on the thin side.
2 Silent Fox (Bet Now:Β $34.00) drops a fair bit in overall depth after racing in a 1200m maiden at Pakenham last Thursday when outclassed on paper and ran accordingly when down the track. Back to this level of maiden, I think he’s a definite improver at odds.
Race 4. (19:15) Good Friday Dual Codes 18 April (Bm64) 1600m
1 Detroit City (Bet Now:Β $3.00) has plenty on these if he’s ready to go. Just a matter of if indeed he is ready. He was too bad to be true in the Alister Clark but I will say that track was quite shifty and some horses just didn’t handle it, which he didn’t. Back miles in grade/depth, claim…he’s the one, and clearly.
6 Littlebirdie (Bet Now:Β $2.50) steps up to the mile for Busuttin/Young after racing over 1400m at Sale last time when on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when second to Midnight Glow. 1600m is the query but with a soft run on speed, she’s fien and a leading contender.
2 Oceans Above (Bet Now:Β $13.00) can run an improved race. He resumed with a bang at Pakenham before going to Sandown where it looked a case of second up syndrome, getting back and failed to fire when down the track. Third up and hard fit, he’s a definite improver.
Race 5. (19:45) Ladbrokes Owners Bonus Mdn Plate 1400m
4 Mr Bannock (Bet Now:Β $13.00) on top nut not really a race I want to get involved in. Team Hayes trained gelding that debuted over 1300m at Swan Hill where he got back in the run and while he was bever a winning threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat. Fitter and up in trip, he takes beating.
8 Topmost (Bet Now:Β $3.80) hasn’t done much wrong in two career outings and with home track advantage, has to be respected. He ran over 1200m at Yarra Valley last time when near the speed throughout and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when third. 1400m should be fine and this isn’t a deep race.
5 My Friday Beau (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a son of Brazen Beau that resumes for Team Hayes. He hasn’t raced since Nov 8 at Albury over the mile when placing, seemingly getting every chance but was still pretty good in defeat, albeit in a maiden weaker than this. Jumped out alright, watch betting.
Race 6. (20:15) Urbangreen Projects Ryan Morrison Hcp (64) 1300m
2 Il Cubo (Bet Now:Β $3.80) does tend to save his best for Cranbourne so with that in mind, I am leaning his way for Price/Kent. He ran over 1300m at Sandown on Feb 26 when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat. Freshened up, back in grade/depth, he is hard to beat.
4 Stormfront (Bet Now:Β $4.00) is capable with his best. He ran over 1200m at Pakenham last time when seemingly getting every chance but was plain late in the piece behind a good horse, Big Swinger. Back on the home track, kind map, he’s a threat.
1 British Poet (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is in a purple patch for Reece Goodwin and commands respect. He is a few weeks between runs since a win over 1400m here when on speed throughout and was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Leading contender.
Race 7. (20:45) Mark Carlson 50 Ducks (Bm64) 2025m
2 Breathless Spirit (Bet Now:Β $17.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the get out. Archie Alexander trained gelding that made his Aussie debut at Terang where the market said he was a good thing given the sustained push, but he didn’t fire and was plain late. He’ll love the rise in trip, the claim and this race is thin. Big price for mine.
1 Fagin (Bet Now:Β $6.50) has class on his side vs this lot so he has to be given respect. He ran over 2000m at Ballarat last Wednesday where he attempted to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through. He was five weeks between runs there so with improvement to come, he’s dangerous.
7 Winds Of March (Bet Now:Β $17.00) comes back to 2000m after racing over 2400m at Sandown last time when off speed and kept chasing but the race shape wasn’t really to his liking behind Amizetta. More genuine tempo this time around, he can threaten at a price.
