Race 1. (15:00) Vale Lindsay Severn Plate 1000m
6 Texan Dream (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Splintex that debuts for Luke Fernie. He has only had the one soft 400m trial under the belt but to my eye, moved very well and certainly well enough to say he’ll run well in debut. Hopefully the market agrees.
2 Dawn Dancer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of a number of reps here for Ryan Hill. He looks to have trialled up nicely on multiple occasions for start one, something that is the norm with this stable and juveniles, so watch betting and see what it does.
4 Sovereign Rock (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is bred to be a good one being by Awesome Rock out of Castle Queen. He has had a few trials to get ready for start one so the grounding is there to say he’ll run well. Not dismissing him.
Race 2. (15:39) MCA Polytrack Handicap (0MWLY) 1600m
11 Linchpin (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks well suited here. Debuted over 1400m at Belmont in a maiden and gee he was impressive the way he gave them a start and a beating to win impressively. Can he put his hand up for better races? If he wins here, the answer is yes.
6 Wembanyama (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) hasn’t quite lived up to the early hype, but he is a horse with ability and is certainly good enough to take this out. Latest run came over 1400m at Belmont when off speed and was good late without threatening behind Climb On Top. 1600m should be fine and is a leading contender.
9 Exquisite Taste (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes to town off the back of a win at Bunbury when leading throughout and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found. Harder here but think she can measure up.
Race 3. (16:15) Quayclean Handicap (66+) 2200m
5 Lombadina (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can bounce back for Michael Grantham. I reckon she was ridden a touch warm at Belmont two weeks ago and it took away her finale when down the track behind I Love Your Smile. Much better suited when ridden with a sit so I’m hoping that eventuates.
12 Guns Away (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes to Saturday metro level after a midweek win at Belmont over 2100m where he got better as the race went on and actually produced the best splits of the race in winning. Harder here, but heading in the right direction and will stay.
4 Admired (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is hit and miss but a win wouldn’t shock. He ran behind I Love Your Smile two weeks back and seemingly had his chance but he was far from disgraced. He’s a must include in wider exotics.
Race 4. (16:55) Tabtouch Handicap (0MWLY) 1100m
12 Mohegan Ruler (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Team Williams trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since May 7 over 1400m here when on speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late behind So Nataya. Couple of solid trials under the belt and good lead is that Pike is booked, so watch betting.
7 Surfside Session (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs for Colin Webster since a win at Belmont where he wasn’t 100% happy on the heavy track but class came to the fore. He’ll appreciate firmer footing, maps ideally and don’t see 1100m being an issue.
4 Hit The Jackpot (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Ryan Hill, having not raced since Aug 23 over 1000m at Belmont when down the track behind Ginger Morpheus. Tick over trial was quite good and he does save his best for this trip.
Race 5. (17:33) Mrs Mac's Handicap (72+) 1000m
3 All Play (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can resume a winner for Trevor Andrews. He hasn’t raced since April 19 over this track/distance when wide no cover and just felt the pinch late in the piece behind Toropa. Looks to have trialled up very well for the return, he’s the one to beat.
1 Ginnivan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a short course specialist and appears suited at the Ascot 1000m. Three weeks between runs since racing at Belmont when on speed and was hailed as the winner, but was nabbed near the peg by Kay Tee Why. Good racing style, he appeals.
2 Ghost Who Walks (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran third to Kay Tee Why from three weeks back. He got back off speed and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and was pretty good late. He’ll likely spot them a start but launch at them late.
Race 6. (18:10) The Pinnacles Handicap (1MW) 1400m
11 Great Emotion (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m after racing over 1200m at Belmont two weeks ago where she got off speed and was a little one paced when the sprint went on but she picked up and was pretty good late in the piece. Fitter, up in trip, can settle closer, hard to beat.
3 Speak To Me (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) does tend to save his best for this trip and is a key chance after a win over this trip last start at Bunbury. He was aid adoy but was able to find a spot and looked to be trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Keen to see how he goes against these.
2 Blazing Emerald (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. She ran over this trip three weeks back at Belmont and while held on the line by Be Bardot, I did think she had her chance. Hard fit now, her best is good enough.
Race 7. (18:50) A1 Engineering Handicap (1MW) 1800m
4 Pharoah Show (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes to town for Michael Grantham after a win at Bunbury over 1695m when giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. Racing like 1800m should be fine and strikes a winnable race.
11 Old Mate Henry (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was finding it hard to break the maiden tag but he did it in style last start at Bunbury, winning by a space over 1695m and got better as the race went on. Confident he can measure up off that win.
14 Mississippi Dawn (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a last start winner for Michael Grantham, that win being at Bunbury over 1400m. She got into a lovely spot in behind the speed before angling clear and in a driving go finished best to score. Rising to 1800m should be fine and off a win, is a key chance.
Race 8. (19:30) Max Simmomds Stakes 1000m
3 Twisted Steel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll first up for Simon Miller. He went 2/2 as a juvenile and each time looked very sharp. Like him at 1000m fresh, Pike is on and his trial work to get ready has been great. Keen on his prospects.
1 Talkanco (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was the star juvenile in WA last season so keen to see how she resumes. Her last start resulted in the Karrakatta Plate when giving them a start and a beating. She’ll likely get back off speed but will launch late.
11 Artie’s Eclipse (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) lacks the class of these but I am convinced she has talent. She resumes and while I doubt she wins, I reckon she could sneak a first four spot because her recent trial win at Lark Hill was very good I thought.
Race 9. (20:10) Swan Draught Handicap (78+) 1400m
1 Captain Pluto (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) loves racing at Ascot and could well put his hand up for thd good races later in the year. He resumes for Team Williams, having not raced since March 23 at Pinjarra when fourth in the Pinjarra Cup behind Currimundi. 1400m is on the short but he has class and looks to have trialled well.
9 Opportunistic (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks one of the potential leading locals for the Railway. He resumes after going 3/3 in his first prep last season, highlighted by a super Belmont Guineas triumph. Eyes are on better things, but the stable is humming. Watch betting.
4 Fast Flicker (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing last Thursday in the Hannans at Kalgoorlie when wide no cover for the trip and the hard run just told on her late. If she can get a better run in transit this time around, she’s dangerous.
Race 10. (20:47) Reliable Asset Maintenance Handicap (66+) 1200m
15 Playin’it Sweet (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a good filly for Adam Durrant that upstaged the stablemate at Belmont three weeks ago when resuming, wearing down Snitzalatte to score a sharp first up win. Off that effort, she has to be regarded as one of the leading contenders here.
3 Eliteone (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since a 1200m win at Belmont, giving them a start and a beating when producing a string finale to score. Good test here but think he can measure up given how well he’s racing.
6 Chino La Diva (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver at odds given she was two months between runs when racing two weeks back at Belmont and just looked in need of the run, the late market drift confirming the run. Her best is good enough to threaten so don’t dismiss her.
