Metro racing in South Australia this Saturday heads to Murray Bridge where nine races have been assigned. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres from the 2000m-800m; Out three metres from the 1200m-800m; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:45) Bleasdale Wines Mdn Plate 1200m
Hoping 4 Air Marshal (Bet Now: $3.50) can get three wide cover from the gate and be strongest on the line. Resumed three weeks ago in a benchmark 3YO race at Gawler (Metro) and worked home well off a moderate speed, set by the eventual winner Little Rich Boy. May want further now, but looks to be enough speed on in front and jockey/stable is flying.
7 Our Deep Agenda (Bet Now: $2.60) is a Team McEvoy trained gelding that resumed at Morphettville on Boxing Day when on speed and when asked for the big effort by Tourneur, he gave a good kick, but couldn’t quite finish it off when overhauled late by Fortune Follows. That will bring him on for this I’m sure and should run well yet again.
13 Aussie Sojourn (Bet Now: $16.00) is a Peter Blanch trained three year old that was hard in the market when debuting at Naracoorte and I’m not sure the tight track was 100% to her liking but she stuck to the task and was good in defeat. Blinkers go on to sharpen her up. Can see her sitting off this good speed and being strong late.
Race 2. (13:22) Ridleys Plumbing/earthm.-bm82 1200m
In the corner of 2 Set To Sparkle (Bet Now: $4.20), a McEvoy mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since April 27 in the City Of Adelaide Handicap when running a shocker behind Hussybay. Been given a really good break and gee I was taken with her trial here last week behind speedster and stablemate Lake District Girl. Gets run of the race from the gate and has class.
Really hard to knock the way 6 Enough Swagger (Bet Now: $2.35) is racing at present. This mare has won her last three, the latest coming three weeks ago at Gawler where she just toyed with her rivals once again, with that turn of foot of hers really coming to the fore between the 400-200m. No signs of a drop off yet so she has to be respected despite the class/rise increase.
5 Street Life (Bet Now: $11.00) is an absolute beauty for Karen Byrnes that rarely runs a bad race. Pannell put him into the dream spot just off the speed two weeks ago at Morphettville and tried hard, but overall, he had his chance when third Oamaru Owl. He puts in every time he steps out and expecting no different here in what looks a decent race for the sprinters.
Race 3. (13:57) The Reppucci Family Hcp (58) 1400m
On recent form overall, you’d say no to 5 Two Odd Sox (Bet Now: $4.60) beyond 1200m, but based on his run here last Wednesday, he’ll eat it up and then some. Should have won the race when beaten a lip by Ancient History. Lizzie Annells just couldn’t get clear air at the right time and really, would have won in another stride. Like the rise to 1400m and finds a winnable race.
10 Miss Mosh (Bet Now: $11.00) is finding it hard to put a win on the board but she hasn’t been running poorly of late. Mile was a bridge too far two back before going to 1400m at Naracoorte where Gatty rode an ideal race on the mare and she loomed large to win but couldn’t get there, settling for second. Knocking on the door and can win this for sure.
3 Cool Fonzy (Bet Now: $14.00) is one to watch. Been freshened up by Kylie Huxtable, having not raced since November 16 on the Parks track when a somewhat disappointing fifth to Secret Vega, who at the time was in good form, which reads quite well for this. 1400m despite the break between runs tells me the horse is still pretty forward and looked good in a recent tick over trial behind the speed machine Lake District Girl.
Race 4. (14:32) Beverley&trevor's 50th (rs1mw) 1000m
5 Silver Lining (Bet Now: $2.70) is a daughter of Akeed Mofeed for Will Clarken that was kept very safe in betting when debuting over 1100m at Gawler three weeks ago in a maiden where she did a bit of work to find the front but got things to suit soon after and kicked on strongly when challenged to get the win. She’ll improve off that one would assume and stable is going super.
2 God’s Penny (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Phillip Stokes trained three year old that was unwanted late in betting when resuming here on New Years Day but I think you could make a case that he should have won. Just got slightly held up when wanting to build the revs. Got out late and charged to just miss out on picking up With Gravy. Fitter, strong at the end…does he want a touch further?
1 Little Rich Boy (Bet Now: $3.40) is coming back to 1000m from 1200m after racing last Saturday at Gawler where he attempted to lead all the way at a good clip and to his credit, he gave a really good kick, but couldn’t quite see it through when overhauled late by Picargo. Back in trip is interesting, especially within seven days, but has the right racing pattern.
Race 5. (15:07) Premi-air Refrig./ac (bm56) 1000m
Despite being a maiden, 14 Just Zerene (Bet Now: $1.55) looks to have lengths on this field. The question mark will be how much energy she uses when it comes to loading up into the gates. She was down to resume in November but barrier manners let her down and hasn’t been able to race. Trialled here last week and was one of the standouts of the morning. If she gets into the barriers, she’ll be beating these.
8 Vivaldi’s Quest (Bet Now: $14.00) is really well in here I feel given he’s a five time winner and is still at 56 level. Had specking when racing over 1200m here last time out and the bets at odds were landed as he came with a brilliant finale from the back to win. Runner up won next start and the third horse placed next start, so the form reads well. Fast run 1000m suits. Just doesn’t want to get too far back in the run.
7 Exalted Gold (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Grant Young trained mare that was well tried in betting when racing at this track/distance on New Years Day but just copped too much pressure in front and tired late behind With Gravy. Has the early speed to take care of the barrier and perhaps Stubby can look for cover with her.
Race 6. (15:47) Beverley Curtis 70th (bm78) 1400m
They missed out on the money with 4 Regalo Di Gaetano (Bet Now: $6.50), but I think they can get it back here. All three runs this time in have been at 1200m, the latest being two weeks ago when fifth to Oamaru Owl in a good effort from off the pace. Two back, he was crying out for 1400m but nothing was available. This just looks a perfect race.
9 Trogir (Bet Now: $10.00) looks to have found a really winnable race here. Comes through the Alcopop Final on Boxing Day where he was chasing a hot speed throughout and tried hard when third to an in form galloper in Naseeb. That was a brutally run affair, so does he bounce off it and fire here, or does he throw the toys out of the cot and not dig in? Time will tell.
8 Impulse Diavolo (Bet Now: $41.00) could represent some value here. Far from disgraced two back at Morphettville behind Yankee Eyes in what has turned out to be a decent form race. Then had a little freshen up and went to Naracoorte where Eran Boyd rode a lovely race on the eight year old and he dashed away for an impressive win. Good depth here, but I think he’s one at odds to include.
Race 7. (16:27) Don't Bother Me @ Glenrae-bm78 2000m
Normal luck and I think 1 Thunder Cloud (Bet Now: $10.00) just beats these. First two runs for the prep were strong races. He then stepped up in trip for the Yarra Valley Cup and I’m convinced he goes close to winning if he didn’t get chopped out of clear air on the turn. Gets run of the race from gate one and is just thrown in at the weights. Really keen.
2 Dr Dependable (Bet Now: $3.00) is a tough, tough campaigner for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable and he can bounce back into the winners list here. He ran in the Southern Speed Final two weeks ago at Morphettville when on speed and was probably entitled to fade, but he kept chipping and it took a hard fit/in form stablemate in Star Status to wear him down. He’s genuine, tough, tries hard…he’ll do me.
8 Blue Bear (Bet Now: $4.50) is racing really well at the moment for Byron Cozamanis team and should run well once again. He comes through the Southern Speed Final where he was back in the run and worked home well, though he did have his chance behind Star Status. Like the booking of Vorster. Just hope he can settle that little bit closer in the run.
Race 8. (17:10) Am&me Langsford P'board (bm64) 1600m
Hard to get away from 14 Robe Bay (Bet Now: $3.80) for the Peter Hardacre team. He looks to have a pretty promising filly on his hands here. Was well tried when racing at Morphettville two weeks ago where she took on three rivals and despite doing a little bit wrong, she was far too good. That was her first run in six weeks, so you’d like to think there is upside to come.
1 Exalted Dee (Bet Now: $9.00) is an absolute beauty for Grant Young. She just doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and even with the 62kg impost, I think she’s a leading chance. Ran over 1700m at Gawler last Saturday and I think with proper clear air in the straight, she wins instead of being beaten a lip by Pickelhaube. Class will carry her a long way here.
8 Jackthegiantslayer (Bet Now: $31.00) has a pretty good record at Murray Bridge and I think he can be a big improver here. Comes through the Alcopop Final at Morphettville on Boxing Day where it was run at a strong tempo and just not sure that suited him at all. Back to this sort of level, with the tempo not as hectic, he can improve big time.
Race 9. (17:55) S Downs Putters Club Hcp (68) 1200m
Really key booking I feel here in the last with Todd Pannell with 8 Sir Garfield (Bet Now: $9.50). Why it’s so important is because first up, all this horse wanted to do was lay in under pressure and pretty much threw the race away. Todd Pannell is a very strong left hand whip rider, so you’d like to think he’ll straighten this horse up and if that eventuates, convinced he’ll run well.
1 Danger Deal (Bet Now: $4.20) isn’t the most reliable galloper going around but his effort two weeks ago at Morphettville suggests he might be back on track. Given a lovely ride by Stubby off the pace and loomed big time to beat Kenyan Wonder, but that mare kicked on strongly and Danger Deal couldn’t get past. Repeats that effort here and he’ll go close.
5 Kenyan Wonder… (Bet Now: $5.00) can she go on with it? Ran at Morphettville two weeks ago when wide no cover on speed yet despite that, looked to travel really well in the run and when clicked up by Vorster, she dashed and showed good ticker late to fend off Danger Deal. First time she’s showed positive form since her 3YO days, so can she go on with it and win again.
