Race 1. (15:20) Amelia Park Handicap (0MW) 1000m
6 Platinum Bullet (Bet Now: $3.50) looks better than these. Talented filly for Simon Miller that is resuming after a Spring prep where she contested some good races and was far from disgraced each time she stepped out. Been given a good break and looked very good in a recent Belmont trial win. Class should get her home and overcome the wide gate.
1 River Beau (Bet Now: $2.35) is on the six day back up for Bruce Watkins after racing here last Saturday when sitting back off a very strong speed before eventually getting clear late and finishing off hard, just missing out on picking up Cliffs Of Comfort, a very progressive three year old. That form should hold up here.
5 Westernize (Bet Now: $8.00) is racing in really good form this time in for David Harrison. Ran over 1000m here at the midweeks when back near last in the run before saving ground nearer the inside and got close to beating a good one in Son Of A God but the Simon Miller galloper was too good. He’ll get back and be strong at the end.
Race 2. (15:50) Tabtouch Better Your Bet Maiden 1400m
8 Rhythm Star (Bet Now: $3.40) looks the pony to bet on. Colin Webster trains this filly, who ran over 1200m here last Wednesday when back in the run and closing off strongly when a close up third to Baby Blues. Back to maiden company and back up to 1400m from an inside gate, she’s likeable for sure from the good draw.
2 Outlaw King (Bet Now: $3.70) is just under two weeks between runs since debuting over 1400m here where he was an eye catcher from off the speed, finishing second to Last Of The Line, who bolted up last Saturday to tick that form off. With that in mind, has to be a leading chance here. Hopefully can sit that pair or two closer in the run.
4 Lune De La Terre (Bet Now: $27.00) is suited back to 1400m here I think. Good on debut before stepping up to the mile at Bunbury where he raced that little bit too keen in the run and couldn’t finish it off. Tempo should be more genuine here and off the debut run should run a positive race. Just hoping the racing manners are on point.
Race 3. (16:20) Schweppes Handicap (0MW) 1600m
4 Sowar (Bet Now: $2.80) looks one of the better bets on the card. Steve Wolfe trains this three year old with Shooter to take the steer. Ran over the mile at Albany last time out and closed off with real purpose to just miss out on the win. Like that the blinkers are on so hopefully can sit closer. If that eventuates, think he wins.
2 Pasaran (Bet Now: $4.50) is a lightly raced son of Blackfriars for Brett Pope that comes to town off the back of a maiden win over the mile at Pinjarra where some Pike magic was the difference between winning and losing, with the ‘Wizard’ producing a 12/10. Confident he can measure up here and run a positive race in town.
1 Mercy Prevails (Bet Now: $4.50) looks a leading chance here. On the quick back up after racing here last Saturday where he was eased back from the wide gate and despite never being a winning threat, he did make up ground and was quite good. Has the inside gate, so hopefully can take advantage of that and prove hard to beat.
Race 4. (16:50) Mrs Mac's Handicap (Class 1) 1800m
1 Hard Too Cee (Bet Now: $17.00) doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates…in fact, it’s awful. But convinced he’s going well and is knocking on the door to win another. Was coming back in trip when racing over 1500m at Pinjarra last start and worked home strongly. If he can use gate one to advantage, think he only runs well.
4 Sky Five (Bet Now: $4.20) is a few weeks between runs for Brett Pope since racing at this track/distance where he worked home very nicely late in the piece despite wanting to lay in under pressure. Still a bit raw/new to the caper but if he can put it together, he’s certainly in the mix if he can put it together and race truly.
9 Krakkas (Bet Now: $11.00) is a horse who I don’t think I could back with confidence but for exotics, I’d certainly be including him. Ran over 2200m last start and took an eternity to get into his work but was good late. Back in trip looks a negative for him but for his supporters, hopefully the tempo is genuine. One for multiples.
Race 5. (17:20) Kirin Megumi Handicap (Class 1) 1200m
Pretty keen on 5 Validation (Bet Now: $10.00) running well here. Resumed over 1000m at the midweeks were and was very good from the back in an eye catching resumption. Love her up to 1200m. Just hope she can get three wide cover and launch at them late, producing similar splits to what she did fresh. Think she’s a great each way bet.
4 Avalon Bay (Bet Now: $7.00) is a son of Ocean Park for the Harvey camp that resumes. Hasn’t quite lived up to his early promise but throughout his career has showed good potential. Resumes and looks ready to go off a trial win when given a good hitout under Shooter, who rides for the resumption. Keen to see how he goes.
7 Wakan Tanka (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing in okay form at the moment for Neville Parnham without winning. Ran here last Wednesday and looked to get every chance in behind the speed, getting the box seat sit and failing to finish it off. I think his best chance of winning will be if we get rain, which seems unlikely on current weather forecasts.
Race 6. (17:55) Marjorie Charleson Classic 1200m
1 Flirtini (Bet Now: $3.40) looks too brilliant for these, even allowing for the big weight and wide gate. Classy mare that had a very good Summer Carnival, with a couple of Stakes wins and was far from disgraced in the Winterbottom. Trial was good and at her best she can run her last 600 in 32. That’s too good for this lot.
3 Angelic Ruler (Bet Now: $2.10) looks the key threat. The Pearce stable trains this mare, who had a very good Spring prep in Melbourne without winning but gee she ran some rippers in defeat. Looked very good in a recent trial and good lead here that Pike takes the ride. Hard to beat, clearly, but with the key horses being fresh, market will be the main guide.
4 Flower Of War (Bet Now: $3.80) is the knockout chance. Talented mare for Simon Miller that has been freshened up after a very busy Summer prep where she was rarely far away from the thick end of the prize. The thing going for her here is the fact she’ll get a soft lead and when that happens, she’s awfully hard to get past.
Race 7. (18:25) Glenroy Chaff Handicap (Class 3) 2100m
Bit of a throw at the stumps here in the shape of 3 Western King (Bet Now: $7.00), who resumed over the mile at Bunbury where he got back in the run and didn’t really fire a shot but was okay to the line and through it. Just looks like a horse that wants more ground, which he gets here, and the depth isn’t great.
8 Altamont (Bet Now: $5.50) is working up to a win for Neville Parnham. Suited here by the rise in trip after racing over the mile at Pinjarra where he got off the speed and found the line with real purpose to run second to We’ll Meet Again. He’s getting out to a more ideal trip and should prove hard to beat with some luck from the gate.
Like the blinkers going back on 1 Ombudsman (Bet Now: $5.50). Resumed over the mile at Pinjarra where it was pretty much another barrier trial for him, getting back in the run and finding the line. He gets straight out to an ideal trip for him and love the blinkers going on to sharpen him up, a gear change that has worked in the past.
Race 8. (18:55) Seppelt Wines Handicap (Class 3) 1500m
3 Vital Blast (Bet Now: $4.60) is knocking on the door to win. Had three wide cover when racing over 1400m at Pinjarra last start and loomed to win but just lacked the turn of foot to put them away when second to I’m Pretty. If he can take advantage of the inside gate, he’ll be hard to hold out at the end against this lot.
5 Diamonds For All (Bet Now: $4.80) hasn’t really measured up in four previous attempts at Ascot but given how dominant last start was, now seems a good time to have another crack in a very winnable race. Admittedly he didn’t beat much at Geraldton last start but he led throughout and was strong to the line in winning. Chloe Azzopardi rides on speed runners well and should prove hard to run down.
Looks a bit of intent here with 13 Mekong Den (Bet Now: $9.00), who doesn’t have the greatest of overall records, but does try hard, which was the case at Pinjarra last time out when on speed and fighting hard when third to Our Idyll. The Blinkers are on first time to sharpen her up, and is a winner at 2000m so a strong 1500m will be no issue.
Race 9. (19:30) Crown Towers Handicap 1200m
6 Star Glitter (Bet Now: $19.00) is a veteran who has seen better days and they are probably behind him, but think he’s still going well enough to be around the mark here. Ran here a month ago and did make up some ground late behind Luke’s Gold. Needs things to go his way but if they do, he can win at big odds. I’d be including him in multiples.
3 Proconsent (Bet Now: $7.50) has had a couple of runs back from a spell for the Harvey camp and should be close to peak fitness now. Ran over 1200m at Pinjarra a few weeks ago when on speed and trying hard, but just found one better in Lock It In. Lands near the front again and is hard to run down agaisnt these.
13 Foxy Royale (Bet Now: $35.00) is one for multiples that I would be including. She ran over 1100m at Albany last time out when a little unlucky not to finish closer. Got held up for a couple of strides when building the revs. Sound late when fourth to Willow River. That isn’t a strong form line, but she gets gate one and should get a lovely sit off a good speed.
