1/8/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Coffs Harbour, Coffs Harbour Cup day

11 Beer Baron (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the opener. He ran during the Grafton Carnival and last start wasn’t too bad I thought given he got back in a race that really wasn’t run to suit. If he can get luck from the gate, he’s good enough to win.

7 Star Ambition (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good racing style for Toby Edmonds and comes here off the back of a first up win during the Grafton Carnival when on speed and credit to her, she found under pressure to fend them off snd score. Leading contender.

9 Cupid’s Kiss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Jeremy Sylvester. She ran over 1000m at Taree last start where she got off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat. Maps to settle handy and be effective late.

2 Impending Fortune (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks one of the best on the card. Colt Prosser trains this son of Impending, who caught the eye at Moree last start when off speed and worked home with real purpose late in the piece. He can settle closer from the good draw and be effective late in the piece.

13 Ol’ Mate Coop (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after racing over 1175m during the Grafton Carnival where he got a fair way out of his ground but didn’t mind the way he finished off his race. He has to be given some level of respect.

9 Squatternut Bosh (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can be an improver for Stuart Osborne. She chased the speed at Taree last time out and that setup wasn’t to her liking, tiring late. I think with a more patient steer, she’s a knockout hope.

1 Barazin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is just better than these surely? Kris Lees trained stayer that has been solid in two runs back, both over the mile in town in Brisbane. He’s hard fit now and gets to a more preferred trip, plus just has class on his side. Keen.

6 Sherriff Cody (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 2000m after racing over 2200m on Ramornie Day at Grafton where he was game in defeat from off speed but just couldn’t quite there behind Magicon. Back to 2000m I do like and he strikes a rade with not a whole lot of depth.

2 Indifference (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing on Saturday over the mile at Doomben. I don’t think the race shape was to his liking, the sit/sprint, but he was okay late behind Space Age. The rise in trip is fine, he has upside and can settle handy.

At the time of writing, there was no markets up, but I am keen to see 7 Morebar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) debut for Noel Mayfield Smith. He moved very well in a trial here on June 29 and I reckon could have debuted during the Grafton Carnival but the stable have kept him on ice, potentially with this day in mind. I think depending on the price, he’s a great gamble in an open maiden.

12 Head Of The River (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Shamus Award that debuts for Matty Hoysted. She’s had two trials this time in to get ready for start one, winning at Doomben before going to the Gold Coast where she ran fifth but moved well. Keen to see how she goes.

2 Icewater (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Frosted gelding that debuts for Dan Bowen. He hasn’t been seen since Boxing Day in a trial at Ballina where he was raw and new, never really a factor. Hasn’t been seen publicly since, watch the market and see what it does.

2 Point Out (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Stirling Osland trained gelding that ran over the mile during the Grafton Carnival when getting a decent sit in transit behijd the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when fourth. Bullock on, kind map, rates highly.

4 Yalla (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to the mile for Matty Dunn after attempting to lead throughout over 1800m at the Gold Coast a few weeks ago. She tried hard but I just think the trip was a bridge too far, especially when leading. Like her back in trip and IMO is more dangerous with a more patient steer.

8 Bianco Nero (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was 1100m to 1400m when racing during the Grafton Carnival and I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat after getting off speed, working home well late in the piece. The draw is tricky but she has home track advantage.

2 Corfe Castle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1200m at Doomben three weeks back behind Goldsborough. He got back to near last in the run and was never really a factor. He can run a much improved race at odds in what looks a winnable race.

9 Sammy Conquers All (Bet Now:  $SP.00) loves racing on the home track and is one of the key chances after making it two on the bounce, the latest win coming on the Kenso at Randwick, landing near the speed and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found and was imrpessive. Hard to beat once again.

4 Oakfield Duke (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. He ran at Canterbury at the midweeks last time when struggling on the bog and couldn’t pick his feet up late behind Hanau. Firmer deck, hopefully, and his best is good enough to threaten.

12 Point Counterpoint (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Stirling Osland and is one of the hardest to beat I say after racing in the South Grafton Cup, a Big Dance Qualifier. He got back off speed and while he was never a winning threat, I did like the way he finished his race off in defeat. He appeals big time each way.

5 Time Quest (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards peak fitness and his best is clearly good enough to threaten. He ran over 1400m at Randwick a few weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and against the pattern, he was never really a factor behind Getafix, a smart three year old. Hard fit now and up to a more suitable trip, he’s dangerous.

9 Sizzling Gal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) likes getting her feet wet and is one of the leading contenders. She ran over 1400m at the Gold Coast last start when off speed and chased strongly in the straight when second to impressive winenr Sailor’s Secret. That was her first run in several weeks so fitter and up to 1600m, she is a knockout hope.

13 Sneaky Rich (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong this time and is one of the key chances. Gave them a start and a beating to win fresh over 1000m here before going to 1100m at Grafton where she got back off the speed again and kept chasing when fourth. Like her up to 1200m and is hard to beat if she can settle closer.

8 Beebee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improving type for Trevor Whittington. He was a good thing on paper in a 1000m here last time and he didn’t give his rivals a look in late, winning well. 1200m is fine, maps ideally, hard to beat.

2 Lease (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run at Wyong when four wide no cover for the trip and dropped out to run last. He had trialled well enough prior and his best is good enough to be dangerous.

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 12 Point Counterpoint
