The Parks track at Morphettville will host SA metro racing this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out three metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:46) Furphy Mdn Plate 1000m
8 Gogolf Guru (Bet Now: $10.00) is an interesting runner. Macdonald/Gluyas stable trains this daughter of Shooting To Win, who hasn’t raced since her debut at Murray Bridge back in February when down the track behind Kirinia. Loved the way she went in a recent Morphettville jumpout win, so I think watch the market and see what it does.
7 Chosen Blonde (Bet Now: $1.75) isn’t far off a maiden win for Chris Bieg. Resumed over 900m at Murray Bridge when near the speed throughout and to her credit, she did fight on pretty well, but in the end was no match for Celestine. Showed really good promise in the Autumn at the trials but it didn’t translate to race day, so keen to see how she goes here.
1 Call Me Archer (Bet Now: $18.00) is a Shayne Cahill trained three year old that had jumped out okay prior to debuting over 900m at Murray Bridge in the Chosen Blonde race mentioned above where he was a bit raw and new to the caper but was far from disgraced in defeat. Improves for the run and is a knockout chance.
Race 2. (13:21) Tab Mdn Plate 1250m
In the corner of 9 The Olympian (Bet Now: $2.50) for Team McEvoy. This three year old debuted last Wednesday at Murray Bridge and I thought his effort in defeat was very good given he was four wide no cover for the trip and was only grabbed in the last stride. I think he just has to run up to that effort to be beating these. Keen on him.
Market will be very interesting here with 4 Promoter (Bet Now: $3.20), an unraced gelding for Michael Hickmott. This is a stable who can get them to win first up, but on debut is another thing all together. His Murray Bridge jumpout last week was very good and the stable have already scratched another resuming runner, so watch the market with this guy.
8 Double Blue (Bet Now: $6.50) is holding her form really well at the moment but just can’t quite crack it for a win. Looked like it would come at Gawler last time out when hitting the front but was bloused late nearer the inside by Dry Valley. Has run well at metro level before and if she continues to hold her form, she can fill a first four spot.
Race 3. (14:01) Chalk Hill (bm82) 1000m
4 Brimarvi Vehero (Bet Now: $2.35) is really well placed back to 1000m and happy to be in his corner. Ran over 1100m at Gawler three weeks ago and finished off strongly from off the speed, but had to settle for a second to a Stakes class animal in Octane, who won last Saturday to tick that form off. Hard to beat against these.
2 Irish Mint (Bet Now: $5.50) is worth another chance back home. Was keen on him running well two weeks ago down the Flemington straight but he found zero and was terrible behind Bumper Blast. Outclassed? On paper, I would say no, but in the end, looked like he clearly was. Returns back home, and at this level, can bounce back for sure.
I think back onto a firmer deck will help 3 Celtic Blast (Bet Now: $9.50) because at his best, he can certainly measure up here. Comes through the Octane race from three weeks ago when on speed and dropped out in a pretty weak effort, but I think these days, dry tracks are his go. Likely gets that here and is a two time winner on the track.
Race 4. (14:41) Graham Burns Memorial (bm72) 2250m
Think this is really good placement by Matt Laurie when it comes to his mare 4 Vinaceous (Bet Now: $3.10). Three runs back from a spell have been pretty good and I think a key to that is that they have ridden her cold and working home late, the latest effort being at Geelong behind Wildwood Jade. Eats up the extra ground and finds such a winnable Saturday metro race.
3 Disco Rebel (Bet Now: $4.20) is a John Dunn trained mare that backs up from last Saturday. She raced over 2500m on the course proper here when attempting to lead throughout and she gave a reasonable kick, but couldn’t quite see out the trip when fourth to Manzala. Lone start at this track/distance resulted in a win, and this race is much weaker than last Saturday.
6 Magus Man (Bet Now: $11.00) is on the quick back up for Grant Young after racing at Gawler on Sunday where Caitlin Jones put him into a lovely spot just off the speed before peeling wider and in a driving go, he finished best and was strong to the line, so the 2250m here will be no issue and overall, this is a very thin staying contest.
Race 5. (15:21) Camp Quality (bm72) 1250m
4 Danger Deal (Bet Now: $4.60) is a son of Rebel Raider for the Macdonald/Gluyas team that had jumped out well prior to resuming at Gawler three weeks go and I thought his effort was really good. Closed off with real purpose late to run second to Octane, and paraded like he would improve significantly with the run under the belt. Yet to win second up, but has placed in four of five.
3 Oh Mo (Bet Now: $3.20) is in career best form for Sam Burford and should take some beating here. Had good market support when racing here two weeks ago and gee he was impressive in winning, letting down hard from off the pace to get the job done in a race which had far more depth than what he faces here. Hard to beat against this lot.
7 Call Me Curtis (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Darren Magro trained gelding that had specking at a price when racing over 1100m at Gawler two weeks ago. Landed near the speed and tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off, but was sound in defeat in a strong race won by Octane. Back to this sort of grade suits and he has the right racing pattern for this track.
Race 6. (16:01) Jockey Celebration Day (bm72) 1400m
Fitter and up to 1400m I do like for 3 Jacobite Prince (Bet Now: $3.40). On the seven day back up for Phillip Stokes after racing over 1200m on the course proper here last Saturday, his first run in six weeks. Was near the speed throughout and there to challenge, but had to settle for a second to Classy Jaybee, who is flying. Up to 1400m, sits on speed and has a liking for the Parks track.
2 Left Hand Man (Bet Now: $4.60) is worth another chance. Jon O’Connor trained gelding who ran over 1250m here two weeks in a much stronger race when leading and trying hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when fifth to Oh Mo, who came home hard out wide to win. Like him back to this sort of level and should prove hard to beat.
4 Flop (Bet Now: $11.00) is racing well without winning for Gordon Richards. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where she was back against the track pattern and couldn’t make a winning impact, but kept finding the line and was good in defeat behind Defiant Dancer. Convinced she’s going well and can take this out for sure.
Race 7. (16:41) Adelaide Galvanising (bm64) 1550m
8 Taberna (Bet Now: $5.50) on top. Daughter of Domesday that had her first run for Jon O’Connor two weeks ago over 1400m here when back near last in the run and finishing off powerfully late when a narrow second to Sadente, who got a miracle split and got up in the last stride. Got more to come and up to 1550m is a big tick.
1 Territory Titan (Bet Now: $2.25) is racing in career best form for James Dodgson, winning three on the bounce. Latest of those wins came over this track/distance two weeks ago when put into a lovely spot by Crowther where he sat off the speed to get last look and he surged hard late to beat another in form galloper, Rothmoore. Not badly in after the claim and is just racing so well.
John Hickmott has 9 Near Magic (Bet Now: $10.00) absolutely flying this time in, winning two of four, the latest win coming last Wednesday at Murray Bridge when near the speed throughout and was there to be run down, but he showed good ticker late and on the line was holding his rivals. Think he can measure up against these.
Race 8. (17:16) Terry Howe Printing (bm58) 1300m
8 Jive Baby (Bet Now: $6.50) looks a great bet against these. Francis/Kent trained three year old that resumed at Gawler over 1100m and should have won, simple as that. Was back last throughout and forced to peel widest on the turn, letting down hard late to just miss out on the win when third to Tinny Bar Blue. Fitter, up to 1300m, very likeable.
10 Pale Ale (Bet Now: $9.50) is always a sneaky chance in these kind of races. He’s seen better days but is racing in solid enough form at the moment without winning. Last run came two weeks ago over 1250m here when on speed and sticking on well in defeat when fourth to Wounded Soldier. He’ll be around the mark I’m sure.
6 Pearl Bandit (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Rebel Raider for the Macdonald/Gluyas team that resumes. This five year old hasn’t raced since January 22 over 1900m at Oakbank when luckless at a vital stage and should have won when a close up second to track specialist Sasun. Recent Morphettville jumpout was good and can sprint well fresh.
