A strong seven race card has been set down for Cowra on Wednesday, with the support card from Wellington on Sunday transferred to here. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:04) Mdn Plate 1100m
11 Love Marilyn (Bet Now: $5.00) on top. Stephen Jones trained mare that hasn’t quite set the world on fire in seven career outings, but this looks a pretty thin maiden. She was on speed at Armidale last time out and battled away pretty well when fifth. From gate one, I think she’ll lead and does get a jockey upgrade IMO in Rory Hutchings.
10 Couture (Bet Now: $6.00) is a key threat. First run for Peter Stanley after formerly being with Jim McMillan. Last run came on Feb 19 at Orange over the mile when near the speed and battled away well to run fourth. Fresh legs back to 1100m for the new stable, it’s a thin race, so he commands respect.
17 Galleries Supreme (Bet Now: $14.00) is a knockout hope. She lost sight of the bunny at Gilgandra last start and was never really a factor, but was solid late in the piece. That was her first run in over a year, so potentially second up syndrome? If not, she’s in the mix as a threat.
Race 2. (13:39) Mdn Plate 1375m
1 Another Sonette (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps. Maiden of 51 starts, seven years of age…not the most glowing of endorsements. But, he just brings superior form IMO. He was good from the back fresh at Taree and last prep, he did perform okay at the Provincials, so that form clearly reads well. He’s worth an each way speck.
11 My Khaleesi (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but even though she hasn’t been winning, her efforts have been quite solid. Ran over 1450m at Muswellbrook and was good late from the back after spotting a decent start. If she’s within range, she’ll be dangerous.
4 McLellan (Bet Now: $SP.00) isn’t far off a maiden win. Far from disgraced in defeat in a maiden during the Scone Carnival before going to Dubbo where he was just off the speed and battled away pretty well in defeat. He’ll win a maiden soon. Not sure it’s here, but he’s a must for exotics.
Race 3. (14:14) Hcp (C1) 1375m
7 Starlink (Bet Now: $6.00) has found winning form…can she hold it? Market wanted her with confidence when racing in a Gilgandra maiden where she got a mile out of her ground but picked up hard and surged the final few strides to win and win well. That was 1280m and off the win, 1400m here is ideal, and gets in well after the claim.
6 Oakfield Warpaint (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Damien Lane trained gelding that resumes. This four year old is first up, having not raced since Feb 14 at Scone over 2200m when down the track and a tired horse behind Fox Beat. Resumes without a trial, but 1400m fresh tells me he’s ready to go.
The best version of 4 Vitosha (Bet Now: $19.00) is capable. Her Victorian form clearly reads well for a race like this. Just hasn’t quite fired a shot in three runs for the new camp, but last start was a total forgive after sitting wide no cover for the trip. Soft gate, she gets her chance to find positive form.
Race 4. (14:49) Handicap (58) 1100m
2 Anchor’s Point (Bet Now: $SP.00) has returned in really good order for Sam Kavanagh. Bit of quality about the maiden win fresh at Muswellbrook before going to Tamworth where he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get past a handy horse in Sharkim. That form reads very wel for a 58 at Wellington. Hard to beat.
6 Matter Of Factor (Bet Now: $4.60) looks the only other winning threat. Her two runs back from a break have been quite good. Caught the eye fresh at Cowra before going to Canberra where she got back to near last in the run and was good late in a solid performance. If the inside gate is used to avdantage, she’ll be quite dangerous.
Fast run 1100m I do like for 11 Mamelon (Bet Now: $15.00). Ran over 1200m at Gilgandra last time out where she just got a tad keen in the run and couldn’t quite finish the race off. More genuine tempo here should suit her and her best is good enough to be a first four threat.
Race 5. (15:24) Handicap (58) 1100m
I’ll take a chance on 4 My Belladonna (Bet Now: $SP.00), who resumes for Kristen Buchanan. This mare is first up, having not raced since Feb 7 at Muswellbrook when four wide for the trip in a total forgive. Trialled up quite well at Randwick and from the gate, she gets run of the race and is hard to beat.
3 Brief Statement (Bet Now: $2.00) can be a big improver. I was on her back last time out in a Highway at Hawkesbury but she really struggled in the conditions behind Hardware Lane. Prior form was quite sound and back to this sort of race, her best is clearly good enough to be dangerous.
9 Sterny Bear (Bet Now: $10.00) looks suited in a thin race like this. Damien Lane trained gelding that ran over 1000m at Port Macquarie last time out when a big price but actually wasn’t too bad in defeat behind Zoom Outcome in a bunched finish. That form reads solid enough for a race like this.
Race 6. (15:59) Handicap (66) 950m
1 I Am Capitan (Bet Now: $2.70) has a bit on these re class. Just a matter of where he is at. Hasn’t raced for two weeks since racing over 1200m at Gilgandra where he had a suck run behind the speed and couldn’t quite finish it off. Back to 950m and back a fair bit in grade/depth, he appeals for sure.
5 Moetta (Bet Now: $SP.00) has some very strong form lines around her to give this a shake. Hasn’t raced since April 4 when on speed over 1000m at Scone and she tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth. Fresh legs and back to 950m, there looks to be clear intent.
7 I Love Lucy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Curtis trained filly that resumes. Hasn’t raced since Feb 3 at Gosford when struggling to pick her feet up, finishing tailed off last. Interesting she resumes without a trial but the 950m here suits and stable have a good record when they travel to this part of the world.
Race 7. (16:34) Handicap (74) 1375m
9 Oakfield Prince (Bet Now: $2.20) looks the good thing on the program. Over a month between runs since racing over the mile at Eagle Farm where he was given a peach by Maloney and on the turn, he looked the winner. Just don’t think he saw the mile out strongly when second to Gave Us Up. Back to 1375m, ideal map, back miles in depth…surely it’s his race to lose.
10 On A Promise (Bet Now: $SP.00) deserves another chance. I’d be forgiving of his last start effort at Gilgandra when wide no cover for the trip and tiring late. I think he’ll love getting back to firmer footing and the big tick for him is getting to 1375m, where he saves his best. An improved showing is on the cards.
14 Mookareena (Bet Now: $21.00) is capable with his best. Strong on speed winner two back at Canberra before going to the Wagga Carnival when down the track behind Hokahey. Comes to a solid 74, but should land somewhere near the speed and prove to be a knockout hope.
