The Warrnambool Carnival continues on Wednesday where the sprinters feature in the Wangoom Handicap (1200m) while the best hurdlers take their place in the Galleywood Hurdle (3200m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

1700m first up, suspect that 7 Irish Delight (Bet Now: $14.00) might well be ready to go first up. This mare resumes for Symon Wilde and stable did have a reasonable day on Tuesday. This girl hasn’t really set the world on fire on race day to date, but finds a very thin maiden for her resumption and looked pretty good to the eye in a Camperdown jumpout a few weeks back.

Danger

11 Uno Ruby (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Maher/Eustace trained mare who is knocking on the door to win a maiden and I think she gets her chance here. Ran over 1300m at Stawell last time when back off the speed and finishing quite well to run fourth to impressive winner Written In Rouge. The distance is the query, but in the right stable and the overall depth here is thin.

Long Shot

6 Croatian (Bet Now: $13.00) is on the quick back up for the Pat Cannon stable after racing at Kyneton last Saturday where he got back off the speed and despite never really being likely, his finale was decent enough behind Racing Paradise. Back in trip a little query, but he’ll be strong at the end of the race and should do no work in the run from the inside gate. Definite winning chance.

Race 2. (11:50) Bottle-O Warrnambool Maiden Plate 1700m

Gee this looks a lovely race for the Mick Price trained 3 High Done (Bet Now: $3.20). This colt was really good first up when back and working home behind Testa Boom at Geelong before racing there again where he looked home but was nabbed right on the peg by Dunman. Second up at 1700m probably just found him out the last 50m there, so with that run under the belt, and back in depth, clearly the one to beat.

Danger

8 Opposite (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Danny O’Brien trained gelding who does look really well suited up to 1700m. Really good late splits first up at Cranbourne before going to Pakenham over 1400m where he just found it a touch short but again, strong late. Suited big time up to 1700m and does look one of only a couple of winning chances. Is 1700m to short still? Time will tell.

Long Shot

The local 11 Vassa Blue (Bet Now: $11.00) isn’t without a sneaky chance here. Just them a bit sharp over the sprint trips to start the prep in the first couple of runs but found the 1300m to her liking at Stawell last time and was good late when third to Yulong Patrol. On her home track and I don’t think 1700m will be an issue. Just whether or not she has the quality remains to be unknown.

Big fan of 1 Bowing (Bet Now: $5.50) and confident he’ll go close to winning. Thought he had trialled up really well so was a bit surprised to see him unwanted in betting on debut at Bendigo and for mine, I just think the tempo beat him. They went slow, he was back, wobbled on the turn but loved the way he found the line. Suited big time up to 1400m, give in the track no issue, stack of upside…keen on him.

Danger

11 Chaparral Belle (Bet Now: $7.00) is an Aaron Purcell trained filly who had good market support when debuting here at this track/distance and the bets looked as if they would be landed with 100m to go as she swept up out wide, looking home, but another well supported runner, Careca, was just too good on the day. Should have natural improvement on that, and on her home track, clearly hard to beat.

Long Shot

5 Garbo (Bet Now: $23.00) is a former Darren Weir runner who had his first run for Jane Baker at Geelong when on speed and despite getting squeezed up late, he was out of petrol tickets and had his chance in a race where the form has been okay. On the home track now and when trained by Weir, he did seem to race well when ridden off speed, so if that eventuates here, a clear threat.

Race 4. (12:55) Decron Dunroe Steeple 3450m

Landed with the Symon Wilde trained 9 Doc Holliday (Bet Now: $12.00). He has faced the Steeples at his past, both at Oakbank in the Von Doussa and Great Eastern respectively, both behind Zed Em where he ran okay but was outclassed. Looks much better suited at this level, on his home track…he’ll do me here without a great deal of confidence because there are several winning chances.

Danger

1 Solar Coaster (Bet Now: $2.70) does look one of the leading chances for the Henry Dwyer stable. This bloke won the Spencer Memorial at Pakenham last time out where he settled near the speed throughout before Sadler took him to the front in the straight and he clung on to beat Slowpoke Rodriguez. Form has been franked, gets the claim and depth here isn’t strong. Hard to beat.

Long Shot

8 Blues Breaker (Bet Now: $18.00) could be a sharp improver here. Symon Wilde trains this jumper, who jumped over the hurdles last time out at Terang when outclassed and down the track behind Killarney Kid. His Steeple trials have been encouraging, the latest coming on Wednesday where on speed and doing it pretty well. A win wouldn’t surprise but couldn’t back with confidence.

Race 5. (13:30) Warrnambool City Volkswagen Handicap (70) 1400m

Back Me

6 Tee Train (Bet Now: $6.50) clearly on top for me. Returned to racing as a gelding on Stawell Cup Day with the worry being that it would be a barrier trial for the Warrnambool Carnival and that is how it looked. No gate speed from the inside draw, back to near last, got clear late and worked home strongly. Hopefully can take advantage of the draw, and with the run under the belt, I think he’ll take some beating.

Danger

This is the easiest race that 1 The Closer (Bet Now: $2.05) has contested throughout her career, so really interesting to see how she goes. Hasn’t raced for a few weeks since finishing down the track in the Alexandra at the Valley behind Princess Jenni, who franked the form at Caulfield. Fresh, back in trip, severely back in grade/depth…if she’s right, probably wins. Just prefer to watch.

Long Shot

5 Coreca (Bet Now: $31.00) is a Jarrod McLean trained gelding who has been quite good recently. Landed some nice bets when winning here two back before going to Mount Gambier where he tried hard but bumped into a good one in the shape of Dyagilev. That sort of form against older horses should hold him in good stead and Huxtable remains on with his claim.

Race 6. (14:05) Galleywood Hurdle 3200m

Back Me

3 Lucques (Bet Now: $11.00) has done an outstanding since being sent to Eric Musgrove and being trained as a hurdler, winning 3/3 over the jumps, the latest coming a couple of Sundays back at Pakenham when on speed and proving too good, just, for Big Blue. That form does read quite well for this, he’s trained by a master, hard fit and in form. Plenty to like and is a winning chance.

Danger

4 Mr One Eleven (Bet Now: $21.00) is in a real purple patch at the moment for the Eric Musgrove team. He has won his past three, all of which have come over the jumps. Started with a maiden hurdle win at Hamilton before getting the job done at Pakenham. He then went to Oakbank where he looked hard to beat and he made a mess of them. Harder here, but like the way he’s going about it.

Long Shot

5 Our Yangtze (Bet Now: $18.00) is a Symon Wilde trained jumper who has been a bit costly to punters at his past couple. Has been beaten by Lucques at his past two, and each time beaten fair and square by the Musgrove jumper given that horse didn’t jump too great but the flat speed saw him too good. This looks more his go, on the home track, and we know at his best he can beat these.

Race 7. (14:45) Choices Flooring By Swintons Handicap (70) 1000m

Back Me

The wet track is the only knock with 4 Parsifal (Bet Now: $2.35) otherwise he does look the clear horse to beat. Will Clarken trains this bloke, who had his first run for the new stable just under a month ago when wide wide cover before presenting at the top of the straight and just proving too good for Equal Love, who on Saturday, so the form reads well and stable rarely get it wrong when they come to Victoria.

Danger

13 Scuzi (Bet Now: $15.00) is a daughter of Magnus for the Jarrod McLean stable who is a just under four weeks between runs since racing under the lights at Cranbourne when just off the speed and trying hard but was no match for the impressive all the way style of Miss Street. Should just about be ready fitness wise now and Johnny Allen rides. Hard to beat at her best.

Long Shot

3 Aluf (Bet Now: $11.00) has been up a fair while for the Jamie Edwards stable but continues to race really well. Won two on the bounce before going to Stawell when on speed and chasing a fair way out but stuck to the task gamely in defeat when second to the well backed Good Offa. Not sure what upside he has left, but back to 1000m suits, handle all conditions and is tough.

Race 8. (15:20) Wangoom Handicap 1200m

Back Me

9 Enigman (Bet Now: $16.00) is an absolute beauty for the Maher/Eustace stable that puts in every time he steps out. Given a sweet steer from Nugent when winning narrowly but impressively over the 1200m at Mornington several weeks weeks ago. He does seem a horse effective when he has a little break between runs, which is the set up here, and his Stawell jumpout last week was outstanding.

Danger

7 Inn Keeper (Bet Now: $3.50) is looking to be ticking over quite nicely for the Symon Wilde team. Resumed over 1100m at Caulfield when getting the sweet sit just off the speed and trying hard but his condition just gave out late when a close up fourth to Bandipur. Unbeaten second up, likely lands on speed and will prove hard to run down if allowed to get a cheap lead.

Long Shot

Third up, I reckon 15 Oberland (Bet Now: $35.00) is due to do something. Didn’t mind his first up run over the 955m at the Valley before going under the lights at Pakenham where he just looked in need of the run behind Akkadian. He is a third up winner, stable is having a good run at the moment and if they go silly in front, he’ll be strong at the end compared to some of these.

Race 9. (16:00) Sinclair Wilson Handicap (64) 1700m

Back Me

Have to give 8 Arty Lucas (Bet Now: $4.80) another chance. Was all over him when he resumed on Terang Cup Day over the mile where he looked the winner for the most but once asked for an effort, there was no turn of foot and he just battled away when fourth to Timor Gold. 1700m might still be too short for him, but I reckon the quality is there to bounce back and win.

Danger

7 Quaffany (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Tony McEvoy trained three year old who was unwanted in betting when resuming over 1400m at Pakenham under the lights where he had the suck run in behind the speed and was there to win but couldn’t finish it off when fifth to Dalswinton. Extra trip, run under the belt are both big ticks for this gelding and on breeding, a track with give in it will be fine.

Long Shot

3 Timor Gold (Bet Now: $10.00) is in career best form at the moment for the Jane Baker stable. Really good first up run here over 1400m before going to the mile on Terang Cup Day where Declan Bates saved ground nearer the inside and once he got clear air, he dashed and put them away really impressively. Looks as if the 2000m will be ideal, for him comes here third up…likeable.

Race 10. (16:30) Silvan Ridge Financial Services Handicap (70) 1400m

Back Me

9 Connery (Bet Now: $5.50) for me in the get out. Archie Alexander trains this three year old, who is first up and generally needs a run or two before finding his best, but his Stawell jumpout last Wednesday was very impressive to the eye. Liked the way he found the line under little pressure and looked a much better horse in trials compared to last prep. Draws likely best part of the track and has a touch of class/quality.

Danger

14 Northern River (Bet Now: $3.10) does look hard to beat for Jarrod McLean. Can easily make a case that she should have won last time out during the Oakbank Carnival, but everyone wanted a piece of the outside rail and unfortunately young Huxtable couldn’t get room for the mare. Draws to get clear air this time around and the big tick is Pike…and Pike in a get out on a big day…you know how it goes.

Long Shot

8 Havadash (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Symon Wilde trained gelding who had trialled up well prior to resuming in a 70 at Bendigo where he sat last in the run and pretty much stayed there in a terrible effort behind the city performed Roddandtodd. He’s clearly better than that and has been given a little break since that run. If he runs to his best, he wins. Just want to see what the market does.
