One of the newer bookies to hit the Australian betting landscape is ThunderBet. They haven’t been in the business too long, but a quick look at their website confirms that are a bookmaker that should be looked at and new customers are encouraged to sign up.

Down below is a comprehensive review of ThunderBet and what they do well, what they can do better and why punters are gravitating towards them.

Why Are ThunderBet Popular?

ThunderBet is the brain child of bookmakers John Patton and Andrew Price, with several decades experience between them as on course bookmakers before going online in March 2023. They are based at Wagga so are Australian owned/operated, which is a big tick for punters who want to bet. Their money spent will stay on Australian shores and not overseas.

Their racing promotions are quite good. They are available on a daily basis and cover more than one race meeting, which is very good for a new bookie given some are quite thin when it comes to racing promotions. Promotion is king so having that available for more than one race meeting and over multiple races is a big tick.

Depending on the client/customer, when signing up, you may be eligible for a deposit bonus. Bonus is king with punters today and without incentive, whether it be bonus bets, deposit bonus offers, something along those lines, punters won’t be interested, so having that as a way to keep new customers engaged certainly helps their cause.

Why We Like ThunderBet

Given the bookmaking experience, especially on the racing side of things, their respective racing markets are quite strong and competitive compared to their new rivals. They have their own opinion and set their own odds, not just copy/paste from the big boys like TAB and Sportsbet.

Given the website is up under the BetMakers banner, that ensures they cover a host of other international racing, not just the meetings that the TAB covers. Giving punters a stack of options to bet on is certainly a factor if punters are looking to go out wide in search of a winner. Having that available is a big tick.

They cover a wide range of sports, not just the main ones. Some of the new bookies, especially under the BetMakers format, are quite poor when it comes to sports coverage, only having certain sports available to bet on, but with ThunderBet, their range is wide and certainly enticing.

Why We Don’t Like ThunderBet

Live streaming is an important part of betting websites and unfortunately ThunderBet doesn’t have live streaming of key racing/sport. Towards the end of the calendar year, the focus is mainly on sport more so than racing, so no live streaming of sport would be a turn off for punters who could bet and stream elsewhere.

There is no live betting available. That is disappointing given live betting, especially with NRL/AFL, is very popular with punters, so not having that available is something that you’d like to think will be changed once their business improves.

The lack of banking options is disappointing. As it stands, it’s just a debit card for depositing and bank account for a withdrawal. That is really poor relative to their rivals, who can have something like five options for each. That side of things definitely needs to improve if they want to compete with their bigger rivals.

6 Reasons To Bet With ThunderBet

1. Experienced Bookmaker

With trusted bookmakers John Patton and Andrew Price at the helm, with several decades experience between them as on course bookmakers, going online was a no brainer. They are based at Wagga so are Australian owned/operated, which is a big tick for punters who want to bet.

2. Racing Promotions

Their racing promotions are quite good. They are available on a daily basis and cover more than one race meeting, which is very good for a new bookie given some are quite thin when it comes to racing promotions. Promotion is king so having that available for more than one race meeting and over multiple races is a big tick.

3. Customer Service

This side of things is pretty good. They have no phone number so unfortunately no live betting, but they do have live chat and emails, an email for account queries and a separate email for feedback.

4. Easy To Use Website

The vast majority of BetMakers websites are simple to use and that is the case with ThunderBet. The navigation is simple, the layout/font is clear to see for those accessing the site and whatever you are looking for is on the home page, one click away.

5. Racing Odds

Given the bookmaking experience, especially on the racing side of things, their respective racing markets are quite strong and competitive compared to their new rivals. They have their own opinion and set their own odds, not just copy/paste from the big boys like TAB and Sportsbet.

6. Same Game/Race Multis

Some of the new bookies haven’t got Same Game/Race Multis available for punters, a betting option which is very popular. Thankfully with ThunderBet, it’s available for most racing and sports. There are no promotions to go with it, but having it available is enticing enough.

No. ThunderBet do not offer new customers a sign-up bonus. New legislation prevents bookmakers giving new customers incentives but that does not mean you should not bet with ThunderBet.
