Jockey Bobby El-Issa has been denied a stay of proceedings by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) pending his appeal against a two-year disqualification.
In a rare decision handed down on Tuesday, QCAT refused El-Issa’s application for a stay of proceedings pending his appeal on April 18.
El-Issa was disqualified for two years over his handling of Toowoomba sprinter Bold Glance in the $100,000 Falvelon Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on February 26.
Stewards found El-Issa guilty of not giving Bold Glance every chance when he was runner-up to Essington.
They alleged El-Issa did not ride Bold Glance with his usual vigour in the final 200 metres when overhauled by the heavily-backed Essington.
El-Issa, 34, has a long history of run-ins with officialdom in NSW and Queensland for various offences including a nine-month ban in 2006 for testing positive to cocaine.
The ban on El-Issa came just a day after he won the Listed Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba on Lucky Leak.
