Its 10th anniversary of the Australian Stud and Stable Staff Awards at The Star on the Gold Coast, in celebrating the recognition of the winners of seven categories.

Put simply by Sebastian Hutch “I encourage anyone with inclination to nominate do so, it’s a tremendous way to recognise people who commit their heart and soul to our great industry.”

Hosted by Ally Mosley and James Tzaferis it honoured the exceptional contributions of the staff and winners from five different states across the Australian thoroughbred industry,

Highlighting the national breadth of talent within the industry, the evening’s highlight was Hazel Fertier for receiving the Horsemanship Award and coveted Thoroughbred Excellence Award.

In showcasing her dedication and expertise with the thoroughbred, Hazel has been the backbone of the industry in riding trackwork for over eight years and working with more than 14 trainers.

The Northern Territory has also made a significant impact, with Trudie Clarke recognised for her 50 years of service within the industry and was awarded the Dedication to Racing Award.

Nicole Mutimer was honoured for her work with Off The Track thoroughbreds through her company the NT Institute of Equestrian Sport, earning her the Thoroughbred Care and Welfare Award.

Finn McCarthy from McEvoy Mitchell Racing won the Leadership Award, described by Tony McEvoy as a fundamental part of their training operation in coming to Australia from Ireland.

From Western Australia Ngyrie Gonzalez took home the Dedication to Breeding Award and Emma Cully, the engine room for Star Thoroughbreds, won the Administration and Ancillary Award.

The Newcomer Award category was exciting with all five shortlisted finalists recognised for their contributions to the industry, with Isabelle Toole from Vinery Stud as the category winner.

In honouring the Queensland Minister for Racing the Honourable Grace Grace and three-time Olympic medalist Shane Rose, it was Caroline Searcy for her invaluable service as judge, host.

Having significantly contributed to the Awards’ success since inception, it was Melissa Weatherley on retiring after volunteering 10 years of service to the shortlisting and judging panels.

And to the judges Chaired Johan Petzer, its was Melissa Weatherley, Basil Nolan, Peter Heagney, Jenny Watson, Mary Capuano, James Tzaferis, Reg Fleming, Troy Corstens and Gary Fennessy.

Again, it was Racing Australia, Thoroughbred Breeders Australia, Godolphin, Victoria Racing Club, Inglis, Magic Millions, Australian Turf Club, MRC Foundation, Queensland Off-The-Track, Marcus Oldham and Thoroughbred Industry Careers who made it all possible.

These Awards offer a platform for everyone to amplify their appreciation for colleagues, friends or family members who work within the thoroughbred industry, and stands as a powerful and significant means of acknowledging their work and contributions.

While the nomination process remains simple, this is your chance to show your gratitude as we honour the commitment and passion displayed by the backbone of our industry and great sport.
