American racing fans may have unearthed something to get them all through the global crisis.
At beautiful Gulfstream Park today, TIZ THE LAW (Constitution-Tizfiz) burst to the top of the table for Top 3YO honours in the US with a dominant display of strength running to claim the Gr 1 Florida Derby over 1700m and worth $750,000.
It was the same race his father won a few years earlier.
But what makes this guy special, in a year when something special is needed, he has now won 2 x Gr 1 races from his 5 race career. He has 4 wins posted already.
Plus, he has a big bald blaze, bigger than most blazes, and that always turns heads.
With the Gr 1 Kentucky Derby now moved to September, the points table that determines the field into the great race is still active and now has Tiz The Law on top of all runners.
The Kentucky Derby was to have been run on the first Saturday in May. With organisers moving it to September those in Arkansas moved swiftly to claim the date.
And now, for the first time in history, the Gr 1 Arkansas Derby, also worth $750,000 will shape as the pseudo Kentucky Derby.
All of the top contenders, including Tiz The law will head there now.
Tiz The Law is trained by Barclay Tagg who has already trained a Kentucky Derby winner in Funny Cide back in 2003. He was ridden by emerging star young rider Manny Franco.
Tiz the law started a short-priced favourite and won drawing clear by a few lengths from the 80/1 outsider Shivaree who ran very bravely and early leader Ete Indien.
The Florida Derby has produced 24 horses previously who have gone on to win the Kentucky Derby.
