Rodney Schick remains in intensive care following the ATV accident which claimed the life of his son Jimmy
The New Zealand racing community is in mourning following a devastating accident on the Schick family’s Cambridge property last Sunday. Windsor Park Stud’s managing director, Rodney Schick, was critically injured in an ATV crash, while his and wife Gina’s 10-year-old son, Jimmy, tragically lost his life. Two other children were also hurt in the incident.
Windsor Park Stud, under the leadership of the Schick family, has long been recognised as one of New Zealand’s most respected breeding operations. Their influence has extended far beyond the farm gates through their selfless contributions to the wider racing industry.
Rodney and his family are admired for their generosity and unwavering support of countless industry causes. In the weeks leading up to the accident, they were actively involved in initiatives like the Rugby, Racing and Beer Yearling Sale in Christchurch and the donation of a nomination to Profondo, efforts which collectively raised over NZ$30,000. The funds supported vital causes such as the NZ Horse Ambulance Trust, Hato Hone St John, the Child Cancer Foundation, and the Higgins Family Trust.
“The Schick family has always put others first, and their leadership and compassion are deeply woven into the fabric of New Zealand racing,” said one industry peer. Their contributions continue to have an impact, even during this unimaginable time of grief.
Roddy Schick remains in critical condition, and the global racing community stands united in support, keeping him and his family close in their thoughts. Messages of support have poured in from across the globe, offering strength and condolences during this difficult period.
