Solo Saxophone will become the first of superstar Frankel’s progeny to be tested over jumps when he runs at Catterick.
The three-year-old colt will fly the flag for the much-coveted stallion in a two-mile juvenile hurdle at the North Yorkshire circuit on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT).
Trained by Dan Skelton and owned by BGC Racing, Solo Saxophone was previously in the care of Dermot Weld but did not win in five starts.
He changed hands in November for 62,000 euro ($A92,500) and is the bookmakers’ favourite to make a successful hurdling debut.
“It’s Frankel’s first over jumps, and no-one will be able to take that away from us,” BGC Racing’s owner Richard Ward told Press Association Sport.
“And if he wins at Catterick, he’ll also be Frankel’s first winner over jumps and no-one will be able to take that away from us, either.
“If you ask me my dream, it will be for him to win at Catterick and then end up winning the Triumph at the Cheltenham Festival – now that would be some story.”
Ward has long had a love of Frankel, and went to extreme measures to prove his fondness for the peerless thoroughbred on his wedding day.
“It was agreed by my fiancee at the time, but I put the full wedding budget on Frankel to win at Ascot,” he said.
“I don’t know what I’d have done if he had got beat, but it all worked out.
“We also had a Frankel-themed, pink-and-green-coloured wedding and I wore a Frankel tie.”
