Hong Kong galloper Pakistan Star has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, having refused to run on numerous occasions, but the persistence paid on Sunday when the cult horse bolted home to win the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup at Sha Tin.
The Tony Cruz-trained gelding has been known for his eye-catching come from behind finishes but English-based jockey William Buick had Pakistan Star more forward in the run and was fourth when entering the home straight.
Pakistan Star left his rivals chasing after bursting clear at the 300m mark adding another chapter in his remarkable story.
