Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien has hinted that Johannes Vermeer could be headed for the Caulfield Cup after a stylish win in the Group 3 International Stakes.
Ryan Moore rode the four-year-old confidently and crossed the line a half length in front of Success Days to claim the 2000m race at The Curragh.
Following the win O’Brien gave his strongest hint yet that he may be headed for the Caulfield Cup.
“You’d be delighted with that. Ryan said he might even stay further. He said he travels well, quickens well but doesn’t do an awful lot when he gets to the front.” O’Brien told Horse Racing Ireland.
“Ryan said he could be a Caulfield Cup horse. He has options and we’ll see. We’ll look at races over a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half.
“That’s very good ground today and he has form on soft ground as well.”
Johannes Vermeer is currently listed as a $31 chance to win the Caulfield Cup.
