A potential disaster has been averted at Luca Cumani’s stable in Newmarket after all employees and horses were reported to have emerged unscathed from a fire on Monday.
Cumani is based at Bedford House Stables at racing’s major training centre and among the many horses in his care are Melbourne Cup hopes Mount Athos and Quest For Peace as well as a dozen two-year-olds sent to him from the Wildenstein family.
“This morning’s fire in the ‘Top Ten’ boxes is now almost under control,” Cumani said on Twitter.
“All horses and people are OK.
“Huge thanks to Suffolk Fire & Rescue for an incredibly quick response and effective action.”
