3 Al Qaqaa (Bet Now: $2.50) for me in the opener. William Haggas trains this War Front colt, who comes here off the back of what as a very impressive win over 2400m at Newmarket when justifying a short price quote to win by eight lengths. Clearly a harder assignment this time around, but has more to come and Crowley remains on.

Danger

6 Mafia Power (Bet Now: $4.50) looks to have his share of talent for Richard Hannon. Was knocking on the door to win his maiden and it finally came at start four over 2100m at Haydock when sitting on speed before De Sousa clicked him up and away he went, winning by just under five lengths with something in hand. Progressive and has a good racing pattern.

Long Shot

9 Moomba (Bet Now: $9.50) is another that is lightly raced with upside in the tank. He ran second to Al Qaqaa in the race mentioned above. Was tucked in behind the speed but around 500m out, Ryan Moore had him in clear air and ready to threaten, but was clearly no match for the Haggas runner. Off that, can’t see him turning the tables, but Ryan Moore remains on.

Lovely race on paper for 5 One Master (Bet Now: $2.75). The Haggas/Marquand combo have had a good Carnival and this mare appears so well placed. Was very good from off the speed last time out at Group l level in the Falmouth at Newmarket behind Naseef, who did fail in the Nassau last night, so form hasn’t been franked somewhat, but this is a big drop in depth. Hopefully takes advantage of gate one.

Danger

Good test here for 8 Althiqa (Bet Now: $7.00) but she’s heading in the right direction for the Charlie Appleby team. Has earned a crack at this level after getting the job done last time out at Listed level over 1400m at Deauville. This is a harder assignment, but has done little wrong in her career to date and is worthy of a crack.

Long Shot

1 Agincourt (Bet Now: $15.00) is on the quick back up after racing in the Duke Of Cambridge on Saturday at Ascot where she didn’t really fire a shot and was disappointing. Far from disgraced in the Falmouth behind Naseef and if she produced that effort here, think she would go close. Noteworthy that Ryan Moore sticks from Saturday.

All about 1 Khaloosy (Bet Now: $1.57) here. Hasn’t raced since giving his rivals a proper spanking in winning the Britannia during Royal Ascot, confirmation that he’s on his way to the top level. There are a couple of promising types engaged here, but not to the level of this guy and all things being equal, he should be taking this out.

Danger

2 My Oberon (Bet Now: $4.20) is untapped for William Haggas. Comes into this off the back of a proper spank job of his rivals at York when winning by over six lengths under Tom Marquand and ran solid time relative to the meeting. Facing stiff competition here against a potential star, but the small field helps his cause somewhat.

Long Shot

5 Tilsit (Bet Now: $8.00) is unknown. Charles Hills trained colt that was a last start maiden winner by just under 20 lengths on the All Weather at Newcastle. Switches to turf and faces tougher opposition, and the other knock is the form since from that maiden has been awful, but he’s bred to be a good one and Ryan Moore sticks.

Race 4. (23:45) Golden Mile Hcp 1600m

Back Me

Jumps straight to Class 2 from Class 4 but there is a bit to like about the way 15 Prompting (Bet Now: $4.20) goes about it. Is 2/2 for the new stable, proving that the first up win at Ayr was no fluke with a dominant win at York, lumping 63kg in the process. Now tumbles down to 52.5kg and yes, rises significantly in grade, but he’s in form and up to the mile looks ideal.

Danger

6 Montatham (Bet Now: $7.00) hasn’t done much wrong this time in for William Haggas. Has won two of three this time in, with the lone defeat being a strong second at Royal Ascot. Last time out he knuckled down strongly to win at Sandown. Tricky draw, creeping up in the weights, but there doesn’t seem to be a ceiling as to his potential.

Long Shot

If this was 1400m, could have been tempted to have 8 Cardsharp (Bet Now: $17.00) on top. Hasn’t won since May last year, but his last start effort in the International Stakes at Ascot was full of merit when third to Blue Mist. Think it’s a lead that Buick is booked to steer, and while he races like 1600m suits, he is better suited at 1400m, so he’s an exotic horse for me.

His hot headed nature at times is the only thing stopping 1 Battaash (Bet Now: $1.33) from being a $1.10 chance. On form, stop the fight. He wins and wins comfortably. Confirmed his status as probably the second best 1000m sprinter in the world behind Nature Strip when winning the King’s Stand and all things being equal, he should be winning this.

Danger

7 Liberty Beach (Bet Now: $7.00) did win at this Carnival last year as a 2YO so she has had winning experience here. Far from disgraced two back when third to Battaash in the King’s Stand. Then went to Sandown where she looked just about a good thing on paper but let punters down when running third. She’s honest, runs well…just no match for the star.

Long Shot

If you have to pick something to fill a minor hold, it’s 4 Glass Slippers (Bet Now: $11.00). French Group l winner that was well fancied when resuming in the King;s Stand but she was found out big time when completely outclassed by Battaash, running a well beaten fifth. She’s a very good sprinting mare, should run top four.

Looks a race in two. Just siding the way of 2 Communique (Bet Now: $3.25), who comes into this off the back of a narrow second at Group lll level at Newmarket behind Eagles By Day. He is a winner at the track and last start was an encouraging sign that he may well be back on track. Think he’s the one to beat, but only just.

Danger

The other key chance is 3 Desert Encounter (Bet Now: $3.00), the multiple Group l winner. He’s best days are probably behind him, but he still races at a decent enough level. Outclassed in the Coronation Cup before a much better effort when dropping in grade, running third to Dame Malliot. Proven performer at Goodwood and strikes a winnable race.

Long Shot

4 Le Don De Vie (Bet Now: $15.00) rises a fair bit in grade so not sure he wins, but in saying that, his two runs back from a break have been very good, the latest over 2375m at Haydock when fourth to Deja. Doesn’t lose anything with Oisin replacing Marquand and he did run fourth third up at this track/distance last year. Knockout chance if the favs are off their game.

1 Zamaani (Bet Now: $2.50) looks the standout for the in form Team Crisford. Admittedly, he did find the outside fence, but gee he was bolting near the speed. Just a matter of pushing the button by Buick and when he did, away he went, going on to bolt up by over four lengths. Depth here isn’t as strong and even with the weight, he’s extremely hard to beat.

Danger

5 Julie Johnston (Bet Now: $3.75) is the only serious threat to Zamaani. She loved the step back up to 1200m when winning impressively at Windsor last time out, getting better as the race went on. To me, that seems like she would want 1400m, so remaining at 1200m a little query, but was sharp last time out and the overall depth isn’t strong.

Long Shot

3 Thank You Next (Bet Now: $7.00) has his share of talent for Richard Hannon and can be a knockout chance if the first two are off their game. He was beaten several times in the straight last start at Kempton Park but found plenty under pressure and surged hard late to get up in the last couple of strides. Strong late here from the gate.

Back Me

Bit surprised that 11 Ventura Diamond (Bet Now: $3.75) isn’t favourite. The unraced brigade have some question marks, but of those that have raced, I think this girl is a standout. Not the best beginner on debut at Sandown but she closed off really well late when fourth to Miss Jingles, who won impressively here on Wednesday, so the form has been ticked off and a rise to 1200m is perfect.

Danger

9 Sarsaparilla (Bet Now: $3.75) has had a few chances to break the maiden but she does have the John Gosden polish and should be respected. Sat near the speed at Newbury last time out where she was allowed to roll and gave a really good kick, only going down late by a promising one. Has had a few chances to break the maiden tag, but hard fit and racing well.

Long Shot

4 Enoughisgoodenough (Bet Now: $7.00) is a big watch here. Well bred filly that is on debut for the Richard Hannon team. Cost 440,000 Pounds and is closely related to a couple of smart sprinters, so there is enough to suggest she might have some ability. Interesting there has been market support as well, so I think she has to be respected.
