29/8/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Woodbine

The big races in Canada are not too far away. Ric Chapman takes a look at this action-packed midweek meeting out of Woodbine where there are 6 stakes races. Good luck.

Race 1 8:45am Turf 1500m

I’m loathe to declare this one, but gee the clouds have aligned for GET THE NEWS here. He was sent, a la Tommy Smith style last start, to the front and made to work his big belly off, finding nothing late. That’s not his racing pattern. This is easier, he’s fitter and he should off the speed this time, keeping his powder dry until they turn then unleash. BORN TO BE KING is up in class but may have some talent. He led all way to win easier race and is bred to get this extra trip. A SONG FOR ARTIE is a bit hit and miss. Pace on here so he should settle and make ground to fill a place late.

Race 2 9:20am Turf Halton Stakes race 2400m

Have to like ENGLISH ILLUSION here because he looks a grade above his rivals. He won this race last year but was fitter when he did. Resumes from a long layoff this time but he can run all day. When last in work, he was Gr 1 placed in the Northern Dancer and should have won the race. You’ve gotta love dual acceptors and the stakes placed COOLER MIKLE is that bloke here. He has talent at many distances but this might be as far as he likes to go. Also accepted later in the evening. KING AND HIS COURT has run a placing in this race before and is a strong galloper at any level here. Cost just $2,200 as a yearling and if he wins this he passes $500,000 in stakes. Hits line hard.

Race 3 10:05am Stakes race 1200m Synthetic

In Canada, over sprints, there is a Winx-type superior athlete called PINK LLOYD. He is just the best sprinter around and should win this one also. DIXIE’S GAMBLE is a classy sprinter and chased the great Pink Lloyd home this grade last start. Will do the same again. CIRCLE OF FRIENDS has pace and looks a lock for the trifecta spot.

Race 4 10:35am Stakes race 1700m Synthetic

This RED CABERNET just keeps bobbing up in these Black Type races, running her heart out, winning etc. Gets all that here. Comes off a stakes win on the grass last start and is on the synthetic here but is all class. BEAR PAW is up a little in grade but looks up to it. Both her parents were stakes winners at this track and she too has already won at Black Type level so expect her to battle away in the numbers. ALICE’S WAR is an improving type, and looks primed for Black Type success. Stormed away to win a tough allowance last start. Respect.

Race 5 11:06am $175k 2YO Stakes race 1300m Synthetic

CANADIAN SECRET seems to be getting the hang of racing after 4 starts to date. Rattled home for 3rd last run. Still a maiden but can finish off. PINKY DUDE has tactical speed. Can sit off the pace as he did last start and accelerate late. Up in class but is on a massive growth curve. GOLDMINE CAT resumes fro a spell in this. Was clearly very dominant when last in work. If the money comes, get on.

TIPS: (5) GOLDMINE CAT, (1) Canadian Secret, (2) Pinky Dude.

Race 6 11:36am $175k 2YO Stakes race 1300m Synthetic

This is the girl’s version of the big Ontario juvenile races. KIT KAT KATIE is still a maiden but her recent placings have been at Belmont and Saratoga. That just might be good enough form to test these. SHE’S A DREAM is a boom filly with speed to burn. Defeated most of these very easily recently. Looks the testing material. TARA DAWN is very tough and will run on. Chased home the fav recently. Has fitness edge too.

TIPS: (4) SHE’S A DREAM, (2) Kit Kat Katie, (8) Tara Dawn

Race 7 12:05pm Stakes race 1700m Synthetic

COOLER MIKE is a dual acceptor. Is a strong chance in either race. KINGSPORT has a big following because he is a good stayer in the making. Won at stakes level last start and beat Cooler Mike that day. Is the one they all need to hold out again. THOR’S ROCKET is steadily marching toward a win and was stakes placed this grade last start. Can finish off. If Cooler Mike runs in the other race then Aheadbyacentury is capable of placing.

Race 8 12:32pm 1500m Mdn Turf

NO QUESTION has been hot and cold of late this grade. The good draw means she can sit just off them and finish hard. FAITH OVER FEAR is lacking experience but pedigree is fine. Grandmother was a terrific multiple stakes winner who was twice Gr 1 placed. Watch market. POST TO POST is getting better with experience and should settle here, just off speed. Has finishing power and is fitter than recent placing this grade.
