Race 1. (22:50) Strensall Stakes (Group 3) 1771m
2 Bullet Point was a very sharp winner here earlier in the Carnival, winning impressively over 1584m and got better as the race went on to win and win well. Rise in trip is fine and he wouldn’t be backing up if the stable hadn’t been pleased with him.
4 King’s Gambit is first up for Harry Charlton, having not raced since the Wolferton at Royal Ascot when third to Haatem, settling off speed and worked home strongly to run third, beaten under a length. Looks to have found a winnable race for his return, watch betting.
7 Gladius is an Andrew Balding trained three year old that is heading in the right direction. He has won three of his four career outings, the latest start being a win at Goodwood, finishing best in a driving go to score. Hard to knock the way he’s racing.
Race 2. (23:25) Sky Bet Melrose Handicap 2787m
11 Sea Of Kings is racing like a rise in trip will suit. He rated over 2253m at Goodwood a few weeks ago when back in the run and spotted those in front a start but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off in defeat. If he can settle closer and be within range, he’ll take holding out.
3 Tarriance has done little in a four start career for Andrew Balding and can take this out. He is a few weeks between runs since a win over this trip at Sandown, chasing down the leaders and was strong to the line in scoring. Progressive, heading in the right direction, he appeals.
7 Fantasty World is another progressive type for Andrew Balding. He has won two of his career outings, the latest win being over 2308m at Yarmouth when off speed and trucking before getting clear air and finished best to score. Confident he measures up.
Race 3. (00:00) City Of York Stakes 1408m
7 Rosallion has lengths on these if he’s ready to go. He comes through the Sussex Stakes where he, like most, were just ridden far too negatively, and he spotted those in front too much head start, closing strongly but it was all too late. Normal luck, normal ride, he’s the winner.
3 Lake Forest is hit and miss but his best is good enough to be dangerous, as seen in the Lennox at Goodwood where he chased strongly from off speed but couldn’t quite get there when second to Witness Stand. Proven performer at York, he commands respect.
2 Audience ran third in the Lennox. He got into a decent spot in transit near the speed and was there to win but just lacked the polish to go with them late in the piece when third. Not sure he is going well enough to win but is a must for exotics.
Race 4. (00:35) Ebor Handicap 2787m
2 Hipop De Loire was solid in this race last year but looks to be going better 12 months on. He comes here off the back of a spank job win over the jumps at Galway on July 31 when near the speed and looked the winner a long way out, drawing clear to win well. Confident he’s the one they have to beat.
6 Ethical Diamond has been kept on ice for Willie Mullins since winning the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot. He got of speed but tracked into the race with purpose under Ryan Moore before angling clear and finished best to score. Been set for the race, he appeals.
7 London City will appreciate the drop in depth after racing last time in the Curragh Cup. He was big odds and outclassed on paper it seems, but to be fair, I didn’t think he was too bad in defeat behind Al Riffa. That form is A1 for this.
Race 5. (01:10) Constantine Handicap 1207m
8 Twilight Calls each way for me. He comes throug the Stewards Cup at Goodwood where he got back on the far side before angling clear and did make up some headway but was never really threatening behind Two Tribes. Did run well at Stakes level last year at this track and with the right run in transit, he can launch late.
1 Two Tribes is flying for the Spencer camp and has to be given respect off the back of two wins. First win was at Ascot before repeating the dose in the race mentioned above at Goodwood, sitting near the speed before being clicked up and he got better as the race went on. Hard to beat once again.
18 Super Saiyan is lightly raced but is progressive and heading in the right direction. First run for the new stable came over this trip at Doncaster and gee he was impressive, leadng throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win and win well. Harder here, but think he measures up.
Race 6. (01:45) Julia Graves Roses Stakes 1005m
6 Silent Applause is getting better with racing and I think he can make it three on the bounce. Loved the way he toughed it out to win at Nottingham two back before going to Haydock when a strong winner from near the speed and found under pressure late to score. Good test here, but confident he goes close.
1 Dickensian comes through the Molecomb at Glorious Goodwood where he landed on speed and gave a good account of himself but felt the pinch late behind Lady Imam, who was outclassed overnight in the Nunthorpe. He’ll run well again I am sure.
9 Zelaina would beat these off her debut. Just not sure where she is at after her next two runs where she has pretty much run her race before the gates opened. She doesn’t have the best of attitudes but the talent is clearly there, so I think at odds, she can be a definite improver.
Race 7. (02:20) Sky Bet Finale Handicap 2062m
2 Sir Busker is worth a throw at the stumps in the last. He ran over this trip during Glorious Goodwood and I want to be forgiving because he was just never a factor, getting off speed and was under pressure a fair way out. Prior efforts were good enough to win this and you’re getting a price.
1 Westridge won that race mentioned above from Goodwood. He got into a lovely spot in transit near the speed before being clicked up and he dashed clear late for a dominant win. Heading in the right direction, he appeals.
8 Dain Ma Nut In is a last start track/distance winner. He led throughout and gave nothing else a look in, winning by a space and ran decent enough time. More depth, but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
