The Ebor Festival at York has its penultimate meeting on Friday night Australian time, headlined by the Group l Nunthorpe Stakes (1005m).

Playing a straight bat with 17 Wink Of An Eye (Bet Now: $4.00) in the opener. This three year old is looking to make it five on the bounce and is getting better with each outing. Latest win came at Goodwood where he surged late and had a bit in hand to get the job done. Hard to beat.

4 My Frankel (Bet Now: $9.50) should appreciate the firmer deck here. He found bottomless ground at Goodwood last time out and really struggled to pick his feet up. Prior form was sound so he deserves another chance.

13 Sam Cooke (Bet Now: $15.00) can be dangerous here. He ran over 2400m at Ascot last time out and stayed on soundly in defeat when fourth, beaten a couple of lengths. He does handle all conditions but does seem more effective on wet ground so he’d love a drop of rain.

This is quite clearly a race in three. But I think 2 Spanish Mission (Bet Now: $3.25) is flying and could well start favourite for the Melbourne Cup with a win here. Andrew Balding has him absolutely flying this time in. Strong winner of the Yorkshire Cup before a gutsy third in the Gold Cup, beating home Stradivarius. I just think if you were to have a bet in this race, he’s the way I’d be going.

Is there a little query on how well 3 Stradivarius (Bet Now: $2.25) is going? Admittedly, it wasn’t the best of steers from Frankie in the Gold Cup, but to be fair, I thought he was out in plenty of time with plenty of clear air to finish off and get closer. He’s closer to the end than the beginning, but is the best stayer still on overall form.

1 Trueshan (Bet Now: $3.25) would love this track to have give in it because that might well be his best chance of winning. Got conditions to suit in the Goodwood Cup and he made a mess of them from the front. I think his best chance of winning will be to try and break their hearts from the front.

1 Berkshire Shadow (Bet Now: $3.75) on top. Andrew Balding trained youngster that started his career with a couple of sharp wins. He then went to the Vintage at Goodwood, was tardy to begin with and that didn’t help his cause at all when second to Angel Bleu. He has credits in the bank and back to 1200m is a positive.

2 Lusail (Bet Now: $3.25) has done little wrong in his career to date. Bit disappointing two back at Pontefract when third but bounced back to his best with a dominant win at Newmarket in the July Stakes. That version of Lusail is top shelf and if he brings that here, he’ll take a power of beating.

4 Eldrickjones (Bet Now: $15.00) can fill a first four spot. He’s still a maiden but has run very well in some good races. Ran second to Berkshire Shadow in the Coventry before a solid effort behind Lusail in the Newmarket race mentioned above. Back on firmer footing, he can bounce back.

Hoping sustained speed comes to the fore in the shape of 7 Golden Pal (Bet Now: $3.25) for Wesley Ward. Star youngster from the US who has won three of his five career outings, his last start being a dominant win over 1100m at Saratoga. Frankie steers, he’s got the right racing pattern and back to 1000m I do like.

13 Suesa (Bet Now: $3.75) is a very sharp French filly that was disappointing two back in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. She then went to the King George at Goodwood and bounced back to her brilliant best when spanking her rivals, finding conditions to suit. Hard to beat, but furthermore if rain comes.

1 Arecibo (Bet Now: $21.00) is one I could speck at a big price. He’s really come of age in recent times. Game placing in the King’s Stand and proved that was no fluke when a gallant fourth behind Suesa in the King George. He’ll go around $21+ and I could easily have something small each way on him.

Tricky race but leaning towards 3 Broadspear (Bet Now: $2.80). Having start two is this guy after debuting in June at Salisbury when a game second to Seattle King. The form out of that race has been good with a couple of winners and the winner himself running fourth at Listed level. He’ll do me.

17 Brazilian Beach (Bet Now: $9.00) looks a key threat. This filly looked in need of the run on debut at Chelmsford. She then went to Goodwood when stepping up in trip and was good late. Now has that solid grounding under the belt, I think she has to be respected here.

10 Hoo Ya Mal (Bet Now: $6.00) would love a rise in trip I feel. Debuted in horrendous conditions at Sandown but loved the way he finished his race off when third. You’d have to think he’s a leading contender.

I feel 1 Declared Interest (Bet Now: $9.50) is good odds here at $10+. Strong winner two back at Newbury before going to Ascot six days later for a Group lll and may not have handled the back up. Better suited here I feel and up in trip, she will take beating I’d suggest.

5 Achelois (Bet Now: $4.20) is flying for Andrew Balding and has to command respect. She is looking for three on the bounce after winning well at Ascot two back before being more impressive at Goodwood next time. Harder here but have to like the way she’s going about it.

8 Bollin Margaret (Bet Now: $15.00) has shown good ability in her career to date. Put together three on the bounce prior to racing at this track/distance where she was held up but overall, had her chance when seventh. Has credits in the bank so she deserves another look at odds.

6 Wishaah (Bet Now: $5.50) for me in the get out. Bit of quality about his win at Newmarket last time out when winning comfortably in solid time. Second and third have won since the form reads well and should land in a good spot from the draw so in a tough race, he’s worth an each way ticket.

Beware the unbeaten horse and giving respect to 4 Royal Fleet (Bet Now: $4.20) for Charlie Appleby. He resumed over the mile at Newmarket and while it wasn’t the strongest field he beat up, he was a dominant winner in a good return. Harder here, but confident he can measure up.

7 Rifleman (Bet Now: $9.00) has the Gosden polish and commands interest. Had time off and was gelded prior to racing at Newmarket last start when a strong second over the mile in an encouraging return. He’s got upside to come and Ryan Moore booked to steer, he appeals.
