Boom Kiwi filly We Can Say It Now will bypass the Sydney autumn carnival and is headed for the Dubai Duty Free (1800m) on March 26.
In an announcement that has shocked and excited Kiwi racing fans, Â owner Paul Makin confirmed on New Zealand racing forum Racecafe that We Can Say It Now would contest the US$5 million race after she ran in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 5.
“She will go to Australia for the Australia [sic] Guineas on March 5th. And she will then go to Dubai for the Duty Free on March 26th,” Makin said on Racecafe.
Co-trainer Bjorn Baker told Just Horse Racing that the filly had been inoculated yesterday.
“She is not entered, but we will pay the $5000 late entry fee,” Baker said.
The Starcraft filly has been a revelation this season.
Considered extremely unlucky in the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas (1600m), she atoned with a dominant win in the Group 1 Levin Classic (1600m) before absolutely blitzing her older male rivals at weight for age in the Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes (1600m).
She resumed on Saturday with a somewhat disappointing fifth, once again at weight for age, in the Group 1 Waikato Draught Sprint (1400m) won by Mufhasa.
However, she looked like she would appreciate the step up in distance and the spacious track at Flemington next start.
We Can Say It Now is $10 third favourite for the Australian Guineas.
