Rank outsider Savagery Vibe delivered a major upset in the $160,000 Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm, becoming the fifth stakes winner for Newgate Farm stallion Brutal.

Now prepared by Tony Gollan after beginning her career with Nick Ryan, the mare has continued to improve since relocating to Queensland and produced a career-best performance on Saturday.

Ridden by Daniel Moor, Savagery Vibe burst through the centre of the field before surging clear to score by half a length.

Gollan praised both the mare and his stable team following the breakthrough black-type success.

โ€œIt’s been just an evolving preparation. I want to thank Cameron Cook and all of the owners who shifted the mare up here to us,โ€ Gollan said.

โ€œShe’s been a real work in progress and our team’s done a great job with her. She’s held weight all preparation, and she just kept putting her hand up to run again, and again, and again, and I wasn’t sure if I had another run in her.

โ€œI had her up for so long, but I just know how much she loves Eagle Farm 1200.โ€

Bred by Orbis Bloodstock and raised at Newgate Farm, Savagery Vibe was sold unraced through the Inglis Digital February (Early) Sale in 2024, where respected bloodstock agent Cameron Cooke secured her for just $22,500.

Prior to the sale, the mare had spent time in the care of Chris Waller before Orbis elected to reduce its racing numbers.

The bargain purchase has now amassed five wins and seven placings from 17 starts, with earnings exceeding $317,000.

Savagery Vibe is the third winner from four runners produced by imported Group 3 winner Kiss Moon (USA), a daughter of Malibu Moon and a half-sister to stakes winners Kiss Mine and Mischievous Kiss.

Kiss Moon sadly died earlier this year, with her final foal being a filly by Prized Icon.

The victory further enhances the record of Group 1 Doncaster Handicap winner Brutal, who stands at Newgate Farm for a service fee of $16,500 and now boasts five stakes winners.
