Group 1-winning mare Benedetta has been confirmed as a headline entry for the 2026 Inglis Chairman’s Sale, set to take place in May.
Prepared by Ciaron Maher, Benedetta enjoyed a strong start to her career, winning six of her first eight races, including the $750,000 Inglis Sprint at Flemington. Her standout performance came in the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville, where she defeated top-class sprinters such as Amelia’s Jewel and I Am Me.
A consistent performer at the elite level, Benedetta has also placed at Group 1 level on four occasions and has finished inside the top five in 10 of her 16 starts in Group 1 company.
Originally purchased for $75,000 by Laurence Eales from Mill Park at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, she will be offered as both a racing and breeding prospect as part of Widden Stud’s draft.
“She’s an unbelievably good-looking mare and she has never looked better than she does today,” Eales said. “She’s been a fantastic mare for us, but we feel the time is right to let someone else enjoy her talent both on the track and in the breeding barn.”
Widden Stud’s Antony Thompson highlighted the rarity of mares with Benedetta’s credentials becoming available to buyers.
“She has a progressive pedigree and the physique of a top-class sprinter. She would be an important addition to any broodmare band,” he said.
Inglis Bloodstock Sales Manager Harry Bailey also praised the mare’s quality, describing her as a standout among offerings.
“Mares like this simply don’t come to market very often.”
The Inglis Chairman’s Sale is scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 7.
