Lot 19 ch.c Justify – Abyssinie (Danehill Dancer) – Vendor: Segenhoe Stud
A major strength of Justify’s pedigree is his 5 X 5 cross of the Gr.3 mare Narrate, member of the same prolific Aloe family as Atan whose granddaughter Mira Adonde is the dam of Danehill Dancer. This colt’s stakes winning sister Legacies is one of the three stakes winners (the dual Gr.1 winner Opera Singer another) out of mares with an Atan strain… a 72% strike rate compared to Justify’s overall tally of 59.9%. Justify’s sire Scat Daddy is a descendant of the acclaimed matriarch Marchetta, also ancestress of Abyssinie’s second dam sire Irish River, noting that Scat Daddy and Irish River have combined in 186 winners with 18 of those being stakes winners, two at Gr.1 level.

Five of the 34 stakes winners sired by Maurice are out of mares by Stratum’s sire Redoute’s Choice whilst another two have Redoute’s Choice another generation or two back. Maurice’s grandsire Grass Wonder is bred on the same Danzig/His Majesty cross as Redoute’s Choice’s sire Danehill who hails from the same outstanding Almahmoud family as Halo whose best son Sunday Silence is the dam sire of Maurice’s sire Screen Hero. Whilst Maurice’s overall strike rate sits at 47.9%, he is 67.5% with Redoute’s Choice – and 83.3% with Encosta de Lago, his colt’s second dam sire whose sire Fairy King is a full brother to Sadler’s Wells. That great horse is the sire of Maurice’s dam sire Carnegie with the wonderful mare Fairy Bridge duplicated.
Lot 358 b.c Farnan – Huboor (More Than Ready) Vendor: Kia Ora Stud
The outstanding stallions Northern Dancer, Halo and Danehill all hail from the same Natalma/Almahmoud family and this colt boasts duplications of all three… also carrying a strain of their relation Machiavellian. Farnan is already line-bred to Danehill and is faring well with further strains – three of his first four stakes winners bred that way. And all four are line-bred to Mr Prospector as is this colt. Farnan’s sire Not A Single Doubt sired six stakes winners out of More Than Ready mares – including the Gr.1 juvenile Miracles Of Life.
Lot 370 gr.c Exceed And Excel – I Spy (Zoustar) Vendor: Grenville Stud
His high class sire is out of a mare by Lomond who hails from the same outstanding Myrtlewood family as Mr Prospector to whom I Spy is line-bred 6 X 5 X 4. There have been 299 stakes winners including 35 Gr.1 winners (Gold Trip, Thunder Snow and Anthony Van Dyck amongst that tally) combining Exceed And Excel and Mr Prospector. Exceed And Excel also loves Sir Tristram (this colt’s third dam sire) strains (seven Gr.1 winners amongst 61 stakes winners combining the two) noting that Exceed And Excel carries a strain of the US champion Citation whose Epsom Oaks winning grandam Toboggan produced Sir Tristram’s third dam sire Bobsleigh.
Lot 446 ch.f Snitzel – Lady Paget (Testa Rossa) Vendor: Westbury Stud
One of the great modern day line-breeding subjects, the wonderful mare Best In Show is the fourth dam of Snitzel’s sire Redoute’s Choice and the grandam of Try My Best whose sire Last Tycoon is Lady Paget’s dam sire. Best In Show works best via those two horses; Redoute’s Choice and Last Tycoon combining in 123 stakes winners including 19 Gr.1 winners. 39 of those stakes winners and six of the Gr.1 winners come via Snitzel including his Australian Guineas winner Wandjina and his high class grandson Incentivise. Seven of the nine Snitzel runners out of Testa Rossa mares are winners including the Sandown Guineas winner Serasana. And three of the Gr.1 horses combining Snitzel and Last Tycoon also have Kenmare (Lady Paget’s second dam sire) whose sire Kalamoun is a descendant of the influential Mumtaz Begum, a strong influence in the pedigree of Redoute’s Choice’s dam sire Canny Lad.
Lot 463 br.c Maurice – Let Me Sleep On It (Manhattan Rain) Vendor: Twin Hills Stud
Manhattan Rain is a half-brother to Redoute’s Choice who has been combining son well with Maurice – and his sire Encosta de Lago is by Fairy King, full brother to Sadler’s Wells whose granddaughter Mejiro Frances is Maurice’s dam. This provides for a cross of Fairy Bridge noting that her high achieving sons have combined in the pedigrees of 137 stakes winners including 21 Gr.1 horses. This colt is closely related to one of Maurice’s best in Mazu.
Lot 601 br.f I Am Invincible – Nayeli (More Than Ready) Vendor: Newgate Farm
This mating has already produced two nice types. I Am Invincible and More Than Ready are both descendants of Prunella whilst Nayeli’s dam sire Danehill is by I Am Invincible’s great grandsire Danzig. Of the 67 I Am Invincible runners who have Danehill as their second dam sire, 59 (an excellent 88.1%) are winners with nine of those being stakes winners.
Lot 648 b.c I Am Invincible – Overstep (Exceed And Excel) Vendor: Yarraman Park Stud
This is another mating already doing good things. I Am Invincible and Danehill fare very well together and he has sired three stakes winners out of mares by Exceed And Excel whose dam has good La Troienne (descendant of I Am Invincible’s ancestress Prunella) influence. I Am Invincible and his second dam sire Zoffany hail from the Chelandry branch of the Prunella family as does Overstep. Bringing together a stallion and mare from the same family is a great method of producing high class gallopers. Also good are this colt’s duplications of the influential mares Somethingroyal (via her sons Sir Gaylord and Secretariat) and Mixed Marriage (son Atan and great grandson Gone West). Sir Gaylord and Secretariat together (within six generations alone) = 2981 stakes winners, 334 Gr.1 winners whilst Atan/Gone West = 251 stakes winners, 23 Gr.1 winners.
Lot 660 b.f Maurice – Parlophone (I Am Invincible) Vendor: Attunga Stud
Maurice’s sire Screen Hero and second dam sire Mogami are both members of the La Troienne branch of the great Prunella family. That mare is also ancestress of I Am Invincible who picks up strongly on her influence. Maurice has strong Lady Josephine family influence as does Canny Lad to whom Parlophone is closely line-bred 3 X 3.
Lot 732 b.c Dundeel – Rhapsody Rose (Star Witness) Vendor: Sledmere Stud
Dundeel is bred on a 4 X 5 cross of the aptly named matriarch Special via her grandson Sadler’s Wells and son Nureyev who are 3/4 brothers. And Rhapsody Rose is bred the same way. Dundeel has sired Gr.1 horses with duplications of both of those stallions including Femminile who has both – as does Dundeel’s exciting granddaughter Aeliana who is out of a mare by Star Witness. Aeliana is also line-bred to Sir Tristram as is this colt – as are another 15 Dundeel line stakes winners (five Gr.1). Dundeel is a descendant of the acclaimed matriarch Eulogy as is Star witness’ third dam sire Diplomatic Star. A cross of the future is Dundeel/Medaglia D’Oro (Rhapsody Rose’s dam sire) – the first three runners are all winners, noting that Medaglia D’Oro picks up strongly on the influence of the Frizette family of his dam sire Bailjumper – one from which Darshaan (dam sire of Dundeel’s sire High Chaparral) hails.

Brave Smash’s first Gr.1 winner Kimochi is out of an I Am Invincible mare, noting that Brave Smash is bred on a Kris/Northern Dancer cross, the opposite to Invincible Spirit. Brave Smash has strong Pretty Polly family influence including a 4 X 4 cross of Northern Taste and that great mare’s descendant Artaius is Invincible Spirit’s second dam sire. Brave Smash’s dam has good Prunella family influence including a rare strain of Rising Light from the same Chelandry branch as I Am Invincible (and his second dam sire Zoffany).
