A Wootton Bassett colt out of stakes-placed mare Battleofwinterfell (USA) sold for a staggering $1.7 million at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale, highlighting the strong demand for elite pedigrees. Consigned by Milburn Creek, the colt was purchased by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock and will be trained by Anthony Freedman for Jonathon Munz and partners.
“We went a little bit over what we thought, but he was the best colt in the sale,” said Hawthorne. “Wootton Bassett colts are flying, and there’s only ten more to go at Easter.”
The colt combines top-tier athleticism with an international pedigree. His sire is the reigning Champion European 2YO Sire, with notable Australian progeny like Pallaton and Gallo Nero.
Battleofwinterfell produced only two foals before her untimely death, making this sale particularly significant for breeder John Muir. The colt’s sale underscores Australia’s booming market for elite bloodlines.
