The Warwick Stakes is set to be renamed the Winx Stakes
Winx has no shortage of admirers and now the champion mare is set to have a Group One race named in her honour.
It’s been reported that from as early as next year the Warwick Stakes will be renamed the Winx Stakes and will also be run as a Group One for the first time.
The Warwick Stakes has previously been run as a Group 2 over 1400m at Randwick with Winx winning the race twice (2016 and 2017).
It’s rare for a horse to have a race named after them while still competing, in recent years only Black Caviar has had the same honour with the Lightning Stakes being renamed as the Black Caviar Lightning.
The Sydney-trained galloper is on the verge of making history this weekend when she attempts to equal Kingston Town’s Cox Plate record with a third successive win in the prestigious race.
Winx is the $1.15 favourite in the Cox Plate and is looking to record her 22nd straight win.
