Willie Mullins, the mastermind behind Vauban’s racing prowess, is fixated on Melbourne Cup redemption.
Despite being a top contender last year, Vauban faltered, finishing a distant 14th behind Without A Fight.
Mullins, undeterred, asserts Vauban’s readiness for a comeback, setting sights squarely on the 2024 Melbourne Cup.
Confirming a strategic shift, Mullins hints at a flat campaign for Vauban’s return, bypassing hurdles in favour of sharpening his edge on the turf.
“Yes (he’s likely to have a Flat campaign), I think that’s more or less the plan,” Mullins said.
“He might get a run in Punchestown if he’s ready but I think I’m going to concentrate on getting him back to Melbourne in ship shape and have another crack at the Melbourne Cup in November.”
