Wicklow Brave, one of the most versatile horses of all time, has lost his life following a fall in the American Grand National at Far Hills racecourse in New Jersey.
The Willie Mullins-trained ten-year-old was leading going to the last flight of the American Grand National but failed to clear the last obstacle.
New Jersey State Veterinarian Dr. Stacey Romano reported that Wicklow Brave had sustained a fractured right shoulder in the fall and was transported to the stable area, where he was euthanised.
Wicklow Brave was a Group One winner on the Flat in the Irish St Leger and a Grade One scorer over hurdles in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle.
Wicklow Brave twice contested the Melbourne Cup with his best finish in the race coming in 2017 where he finished 10th.
